rebuild what does it mean for the Spurs uh moving forward is it just a rental situation we’re going to be discussing that and a whole lot more coming up next we’re also going to talk about the other before we bring our guest but because this is such a Hot Topic we’re going to bring in our guest ASAP right now he is Rudy compos of sweep the league um just ready to break out his Chris Paul jersey ASAP and not be ashamed of it make sure to follow him on X at sweep the league and again he is always our go-to guy at whenever we need something to come in so we got to give him his uh intro music let’s go and do that right now there’s your intro your walk-in music right there Rudy appreciate that man appreciate that I love the intro music I I feel like I’m the only one that has it if I am then that just is a huge blessing from Lockdown Spurs and you you are you’re the only one that has intro music but I mean let’s just get into it right now Chris Paul coming to San Antonio according to multiple reports via ESPN NBA TV the multi time Allstar the Bulldog on that Court the guy who’s just everything that the Spurs could have used maybe years ago in his prime but nevertheless they needed a veteran point guard they got it Rudy your first reaction my first reaction was what was the deal and then coming to find out that the deal was a one-year deal at $1 million it brought me from okay a little excitement to ecstatic because you’re going to keep that cap space for that big 20 25 off seon where a lot of these free agents are going to start coming out Daren Fox and name one so I love the fact that it’s a high reward lowrisk type of deal for the San Antonio Spurs and then the next thing that came to mind Jeff was Stefan Castle remember on lockdown Spurs way before we we were talking about draft I mentioned Stefan Castle as being one of the best prospects and I said he could be a poor man’s SGA well remember when sja was Oklahoma City his mentor was Chris Paul back in 201920 when he was there so again you have a great mentor a great veteran and you’re talking about a guy who has in what 19 years in the league has only miss the playoffs four times yeah so he brings a winning environment now not saying it’s playoff San Antonio Spurs right now no but this is the direction that fans wanted to see it’s a first step in the right direction yeah exactly and what I like about it too is it’s financially cap friendly it’s not going to break the bank so absolutely love it and two I never was really not on the let’s not bring Chris Paul to San Antonio I was always okay with it just depending on the numbers and the numbers work down the Spurs favorite I think also my initial reaction was this all but wraps up any Trey young to San Antonio rumors I mean I mean I they’re not that’s a log Jam now with Paul Castle Wesley if he’s still here we don’t know Trey Jones and you bringing Trey young yeah I I think that all but wraps it up uh but you talk about Chris Paul the the right away this is exactly the type of attitude in a player that this young Spurs team needs sometimes we saw this team look a little soft this time sometimes we’ve seen this team not have that dog in them there’s times where I’m thinking why isn’t Kellin Johnson exploding at the refs and getting on them you know because he clearly got fouled I think they need to have a little dog in him Chris Paul is known to have that dog sometimes he rubs his teammates the wrong way but I think for this young Spurs team cuz considering it’s just a one-year deal I think they can stand to use a little bit of nastiness in them they can and that’s something that Chris Paul brings is the nastiness side but you know the good thing about it is he’s gonna actually help these guys and it’s kind of weird they’ve been Pros but they’re still young at age and they’re still really learning so he’s going to bring the side of not only veteran leadership but it’s that end of game closeout that you saw in last year’s team where they could be up at the third quarter fourth quarter and all of a sudden the lead is gone man they didn’t have that one guy who can come in and be a closer not saying Chris B has to come in and shoot the ball score in the fourth quarter but it’s the turnovers man the turnovers are going to come way down with somebody like him when it’s crunch time but to go back to a point that you made a little while ago that it kind of dispels the Trey young thing let’s not really kill that Vibe yet I don’t really want Trey young here in San Antonio but you got to remember a one-year deal at $1 million still gives them a ton of cap space to if they want to make a Trey young deal you can have a Trey Young Chris Paul back hord but I still think that this move is kind of in the direction of we’re still looking for a max player in the off season if not then again it’s a one-year deal so uh we can kind of keep the idea that more than likely Trey young is not gonna come but it’s probably not shot down just yet yeah also too what I like about it is that Chris Paul finally understands where he’s at at his NBA career he came off the bench last year for the Warriors if that’s the situation San Antonio I I think he will be down with it you know Trey Jones maybe it’s that he’s the guy to start the season and then you got Chris Paul on that bench talking to Castle talking to Jones when he comes out of games look you know I hate to say put Trey Jones in this because technically he is a veteran but you know he gets I look any I’m pretty sure you ask Trey Jones right now hey there’s some guy Nam Chris Paul’s gonna be sitting next to you in Camp and on the bench and on the road and he’s going to be telling you how to work the PG spot I think he’d be fine with that but he took a Reserve role last season with golden state and if need be I think he would do that too also you’re basically getting another coach on that Court aren’t you Rudy yeah so you know the good thing about it is you’re getting one of the better leaders at the point guard position and probably one of the best point guards to play the game I mean in all times so you are getting a coach on the floor you’re getting a coach in the locker room you’re getting a coach just about anywhere uh when it comes to Chris Paul and that’s something that’s a blessing for pop that he hasn’t really had since what Tony Parker he hasn’t had that one point guard who he can trust but with Chris Paul coming in it’s going to allow for the young guys to include wmy and as of right now Kellin is still a part of the the team so it’s gonna allow them to again learn from a great mentor we saw them make the playoffs in Oklahoma City with him there and it just seems wherever he goes He tends to make the playoffs I mean he was one of the reasons why Phoenix made it to the NBA finals a few years back so keep in mind like I said it’s a great addition and it’s mainly great because it’s friendly it’s a one-year deal but at the same time you like to say it a lot Jeff we got to pump the brakes a little bit it still doesn’t necessarily mean playoffs it doesn’t even necessarily mean play in teams it’s still it’s a good it’s a good start for the Sano Spurs in the off season they still have to make a lot of moves oh yeah now look last year with the Warriors um Off the Bench he played um I believe about like like 48 games off the bench but nevertheless averaged 9.2 points per game 6.8 assists in 26 minutes now that’s coming off the bench but in his starts with the uh Warriors he put up nearly 12 points a game 11.9 and 7.3 assists so he can he can make some sort of impact uh whether he’s coming off the bench or on the court in a starting job here’s a question for you do you think he starts on opening day or do you think that still Trey Jones’s spot no I think this move right here kind kind of solidifies that point guard position I think we’re going to see Chris Paul start from day one nothing wrong with Trey Jones at all but we’ve always felt that Trey is just a temporary starter for the sanona Spurs was never a long-term fit and I understand Chris Paul’s on a one-year deal but when you’re able to get Chris Paul into silver and black territory for the San Antonio Spurs you take full advantage especially since you only have them for a year you’re gonna allow him to be on the starting five you’re gonna allow him to Mentor that uh the front court but also not only that um this could also be a move where Chris is going to Mentor Trey Jones to possibly be that starter for San Antonio because I was looking at the whole Stefan Castle thing not necessarily as a point guard but I visioned him to be in the back court with Trey Jones I mean remember Castle has good ball handling but his shooting is not quite there yet but with him in the back court it plays him off the ball which is something that is tremendous for Stefan castle that’s one of his strengths is playing off the ball cutting to the basket getting to the rim so that’s what I envisioned but now a castle Paul back court something like that I think that looks a lot more sexier too for the San Antonio Spurs now Paul 39 years old I also like too he’s a good insurance policy so let’s just say you know the Spurs are cooking in games and you know what you know Castle’s out there doing rookie things and mistakes be Trey Jones you know can’t connect on his shot he’s having an off shooting day we know that’s one of his weaknesses bring in Chris Paul he can steady that floor we saw that last year uh to close out the season I believe it was against uh the the Sixers or they took a team to double overtime and it was just like costly turnovers at the end and you need a Steady Hand of that and Trey Jones was part of that yeah and Chris Paul could answer that so I see tight game situations I think he’ll make an impact in that situ in those situations next year setting the calling the team down setting them up and everything uh you know papovich has been a fan ofis Paul since Chris Paul probably much entered the league New Orleans yeah yeah New Orleans since his New Orleans days that there was a loss against Golden State last season where afterwards and I was in the the conference call well conference room and hey you know what do you think about Chris Paul called him an alltime great one of the most best competitors the league has ever seen uh great leader quote here he go underlines highl like that great competitor and uh he just enjoys watching him play so that’s uh that’s really really good so you know I like the impact I like it’s a good signing and what makes it better as you brought it up is the fact that it’s financially uh friendly it’s not a pal gasa thing you know it’s not a throwing in the bank at them um but and it also helps to maybe ease the mind of a guy like Jeremy soan Malachi brandom you know maybe they don’t have to really search for point guard duties that can go and feel comfortable knowing throughout the entire season obviously injuries if injuries come come up okay fine but they’ll be okay playing at their natural position especially soan uh who tried his best to run the PG spot last year just didn’t work we all were just going through it what do you think having Paul and now Jones Off the Bench that’s a good one-two punch there because you’re you’re predicting he CP3 Starts Day One perhaps this might even benefit Trey Jones maybe we might see his number Spike next year uh Rudy they very well could like I said I think this moves trade back into the bench and come in Off the Bench as behind as backup point guard for Chris Paul but you could see him Spike I mean the second unit for the San Antonio Spurs it’s not bad at all it’s a nice run and Gun type of unit even if even if guys and fans who are not big on Zack Collins who’s still a Spur he is a guy that can get up and down the court and I think that benefits you know guys like Trey Jones is going to probably be coming off the bench also Kellin if he’s ended up moving back to the bench coming off the bench as well and then you’ve of course you got Malachi as well so I mean you’ve got a good nice little uh second unit there for the San Antonio Spurs but I fully expect Trey Jones numbers to go up because we’re gonna probably see him I want to say it’s going to be probably exact minutes probably real close to being average minutes as a for Chris Paul as well as Trey Jones so they’re both going to get to play with wmy and you saw the numbers with Trey Jones and wimy you saw the wins getting there you saw how much the team improved with those two guys guys pop knows that we’re not going to lie the whole coaching staff saw that so you’re going to see Trey play will be a lot as well I think the minute the minutes are going to be even between Chris Paul and Tre Jones but again um I expect his numbers to go fully up this season uh with the San Antonio Spur he is Rudy compos of sweep the league follow on X at sweep the league when we get back we’re gonna talk about how does Paul’s uh I guess arrival in San Antonio even though it’s for one year how does that impact the rebuild namely how does that help wimy we’re going to be discussing that coming up next right here on lock on Spurs but first I want to talk to you about FanDuel you want to go to FanDuel right now look you love sports you love them so much you pretty much wish they never endly basketball right now the CP3 on board of the Spurs but uh we’ll get there one day and look but there’s still some summer long you want to go to fanduel.com lockon and start making the most out of your summer also you want to download it now now that the Spur’s got CP3 maybe that helps in your parlays that you want to bet or the lines whatever you can think of you want to go to FanDuel right now again you want to head on over to fanduel.com lockon right now FanDuel and official Sports bet partner of Major League Baseball the Jedi uses the force to subscribe to lock on Spurs pass on what you have learned and we’re back right here on lock on Spurs with Rudy C sweep the League’s very own follow him on X at sweep the leag and check out his show on YouTube sweep the league we’ll talk about that and more in just a few minutes and we’re talking about the big news heard yesterday CP3 Chris Paul the veteran he is in San Antonio ACC to multiple reports he joining a very young Spurs team that can use that type of grit that type of Veteran presence on the floor right now as the rebuild continues and reallyy speaking of the rebuild how does CP3s addition to this young roster is a it got younger they drafted two kids you know castle and Harrison Ingram and of course wm’s you know he’s 20 years old you know he got a lot of these kids in their early 20s and teenagers now the two of them coming in you got that situation let’s let’s start off with wimy in the rebuild okay how does CP3 teaming up with wimy helps his development and the Spurs overall rebuild so what CP3 brings in is like we’ve been saying he brings in veteran leadership he brings a great coach on the court off the court a great locker room guy he brings a winning attitude and a winning environment again I think it was only four times in his career that he’s missed the playoffs but that’s what he’s bringing to the table now like I mentioned before the rebuild part for with CP3 let’s be let’s be clearcut on it jeev this is not a part of the rebuild this is a one-year rental for the San Antonio Spurs if it works out you probably will see be CP3 coming back next year but the reason why he probably assigned a one-year deal is because of that 2025 class coming out if you see you know for example Orlando just gets loaded with banero and they get a couple of stars he may go to Orlando to get that title he’s not coming in to win a title with the San antonos Spurs it’s far-fetched right now they would have to approve a lot more but what it helps on the rebuild is it gives them that Mentor for one year because these kids which you said our kids they’ve got to grow up they’ve got to take that next step they’ve never had a mentor like this they’ve all been in the league so now is the time for them to grow up and that’s where I think Chris Paul comes in he’s in San Antonio he’s helping pop teach the game to these kids kind of get them prepared for the next step that they’re going to take so part of the rebuild it’s somewhat part of the rebuild I think it’s more of the mentality part of the rebuild that we’re seeing but again it’s a one-year thing and now he signed three or four years with the Spurs then we can start talking about him being a part of the rebuild but again onee deal it’s not really so much towards a rebuild yeah what I like about it too and helping the rebuild and the young roster get developed faster is they get a chance to play with the Hall of Famer and I think that’s what this team needs look pop can only do so much in practice in training camp timeouts postgame pregame but he can’t be on the court he can’t be on the court you know correcting them on the Fly that’s where CP3 comes in it gives wmy a chance also to play with a Hall of Famer as well he has you know just one year but he’ll get it now he’ll get it early in his career so he’ll be able to adapt and learn and see what it takes to get W’s more so than what he does now also too I think he he gets himself a guy that is going to look for him first oh yeah I don’t think I mean okay I don’t think CP3 has played with a big like this in his career I was going to say DeAndre Jordan the clippers but yeah you know he was just the dunker uh Golden State nah not really Houston can’t think if he played with a quality big like of wimy level was with eighton in Phoenix I mean he was Aon in Phoenix but Tyson Chandler in New Orleans I believe he was there at the same time they’re not wimy level no no by all means they’re not wimy they’re not wimy yeah they’re not wimy so and I think that’ll help him you know maybe rejuvenate his career you know I don’t think he look he told the athletic after last year that there’s no signs of retirement for him in in the near future uh so maybe he latches on to a contender after the wi year is over I don’t know uh you know I I don’t see him retiring to Spur but he’s still ring chasing so at least for one year he’s put in a pause on chasing rings and he’s coming in to play a mental role and you nailed on the head in the first segment he was a mentor to SGA big time oh yeah big time you see SGA what he is now so I think that’ll help castle and Trey Jones a lot what about this though do you think he could have an impact on wimy when it comes to ball handling because wimy can dribble the ball and take it up the court yeah he definitely can I mean he brings one of the best uh fundamentally sound games into the NBA so look at that this way if you bring in Chris Paul which the Spurs are obviously doing for a year you’ve got the best fundamentally one of the best fundamentally point guards to ever play the game to go along with one of the best fundamentally big men in Tim Duncan who’s riding the back backyard for the Spurs so wi’s getting a guy that’s gonna just help him Elevate his game you know a lot more and you know the one thing about Chris Paul is that it’s an exciting time and it’s an exciting signing and we’re talking about the rebuild you know how good it goes but to be honest I mean fre agency just started yesterday so I mean the thing that we got to keep in mind is probably not done we have no idea if they’re going to add another star somewhere now players may want to come and play with a wimy and Chris Paul and say you know what let’s let’s join this team because these days you see a lot of stars and Superstars jump to teams where it makes sense for them to win so uh you know he’s gonna bring a lot for wimy I think wimy is gonna gain the most out of him but what I like is Trey Jones Blake Wesley a lot of these guys that they need to improve I mean hell you can’t get any better right now than Chris Paul yeah and it’s not just wimy let’s make that very clear we look wimy is going to enjoy the benefits of CP3 but so are all the other Spurs Castle Jones we hit them those names already but a guy like Vel yeah Zack Collins you know he put probably put Zack Collins in spots where he plays better and maybe you know put up some numbers he’s going to find everybody in their right spots is he going to gr some of these guys probably you know probably but again as I said in the other segment I think the Spurs team needs to get somebody in their face know what this reminds me of maybe not to that level but remember Mario Ellie Mario Ellie was a dog and he did not care if it was David Robinson he called him out and chewed him out in front of teammates look you get that from a Hall of Famer I think this young Spurs team can respect that factor and help in the rebuild Rudy your thoughts uh 100% And the Mario Ellie comparison is perfect right there he was a guy that came in you know the Spurs were so flatlined if you remember you know you so David got into it with the you know the rocket or the refs over in Houston one time and that was about the most fight you saw but when you got guys like Mario Ellie and Terry Porter and Jerome kiry guys that have been in the league and guys that are known as to be tough guys that brings a certain mentality to the locker room something that Chris Paul can bring I mean we’ve seen toughness out of Zack Collins many times where he’s gotten in people’s faces before but Chris Paul just brings it differently because it’s not the opponent that he’s going after it’s his own teammates and again that’s exactly what you’re looking at with Mario ell I’ll give you another comparison that I’ve got here is he reminds me a lot of when Speedy Claxton came in for that one year for the Spurs he kind of mentored Tony behind the scenes I mean Tony obviously Speedy was one of the reasons why the Spurs want on to win the championship in the finals against the Nets Tony was kind of having the struggles that’s what you’re going to see with Chris Paul as well he’s not going to come off the bench like Speedy did but he brings that mentality and that mentorship to a lot of the younger guys something that Speedy was able to help Tony with during that season so yeah I mean the comparisons are there between Mario La speedy and a lot of other guys that have come in these first you know this is kind of like a Glenn Robinson Tracy McGrady Dominique Wilkins type thing guys that are coming in guys that are veterans guys that have been proven to be superstars in the league but also great mentors for the guys that are coming up in the league absolutely but here’s a question though you think kin Johnson is going to give up his jersey number three for Chris Paul I think he probably will I think he probably will if Chris Paul asks him you know what if he asks I’m sure he would but I I honestly I fully expect Chris Paul to go with another number I don’t think he’s gonna take number three I think uh new start new beginning for Chris I think he’s probably gonna go with a different number now does he take number 21 or 50 we’ll have to find out man I I don’t think that you know I can see Bruce Bowen giving up number 12 well let letting him at number 12 two plus one or 1 plus two three he did it for LMA you know maybe he’ll do it for CP3 what about Avery or six yeah you know something like that but look I I know there’s you know there’s some spurs fans that are still kind of like down on it you know what are you doing getting a washed up player 20 years in the league you know what impact he’s going to make and look maybe there’re going to be nice where Chris Paul is you know having one of those Chris Paul nights you know not shooting the ball well you know you know sometimes he can be a little hot and cold from the from the perimeter but look beyond that look at how he helps these kids grow um you know he’s probably to have nights where he looks phenomenal you know and he probably have more often than not than that really I think at the end of day you’re going to get a a very good contributing veteran um and and I think the impact’s going to be felt in the locker room on the bench and in tight game situations and I hope there are some times where Chris Paul is on that court and it’s a t tight game and says you know what I’m I see Castle next to me here you go you run it just a see just just go just go at it you know and then make your mistake or Excel and hear the praise or the criticism from Paul and with pop and I think those two one two punch will help this development but you know before we get into the next segment I got to ask you what is your final grade for this pickup for the Spurs you know for the uh pickup for the Sato Spurs if it was a multi-year deal I would say it probably would be a C+ on that grade but for right now knowing it’s a one-year deal plus it’s only $11 million so it’s not breaking the bank at all um I give him a solid B+ on it I really do um okay do I think there was a better option at point guard actually no I don’t I mean there wasn’t really a better option because of where the money was you’re getting him at a fantastic deal but I do give him a B+ on it um you know the the other thing too is I’m not quite sure if the Spurs are struggling which they very well could be uh this could be a trade piece uh during the before the trade deadline because some teams may need cont contending teams may need a point guard so again it’s a win-win for the Spurs you get them for a year on a cheap deal or if a team comes knock and come trade deadline hey we need a veteran point guard obviously Chris Paul you know they’re probably going to give you a good amount back for Chris Paul so it’s a win-win for the Spurs but overall Jeff I I got B+ for a grade yeah I’m gonna give it a B+ too I agree with you I think it’s a very good pickup I would have loved for the Spurs to get in a younger point guard you know uh that can make a bigger impact like a Darius Garland but that not going to come to fruition it looks like Garland May likely stay in say in Cleveland but overall the value that you’re getting in oneyear mentorship on the court in the locker room on the bench during practice in training camp in preseason side chats you know days off in the flights to games on the road I I think this exactly what the Spurs uh needed to help this rebuild propel faster he is Rudy compos of sweep the league and by the way here is a a new report from Chris Haynes according to him he says Chris Paul had a great talk with Spurs coach Greg papovich will sold on the culture and the opportunity to help Victor Wim bayama Elevate his game CP according to Haynes is eager and motivated to Showcase that he’s sing an athlete Elite guard in this uh NBA so yeah I think the Spurs did themselves a good job again the price tag was per perfect didn’t break the bank ultimately we get back we’re going to be discussing some other Spurs fre agency moves what’s going on with Mamu what’s going on with Barlo that’s coming up next right here on lockdown Spurs and we’re back right here on lockon Spurs with sweep the League’s very own Rudy compos make sure to check out his show on YouTube sweep the league it is growing fast like seriously fast like you talk about the Spurs rebuild going fast you’re rebranding rebuilds taking off fast too as well isn’t it yeah it’s uh it’s very very fast we hit 100 subscribers on YouTube in less than 30 days from According to the producers that we have um we’re being broadcast now like I said in New York New Jersey Boston the whole Northeast Coast we picked up a West Coast uh Network now so we’re g to be on their Pages as well uh it’s it’s been a hectic but a good hectic for everybody out there we appreciate everybody joining us uh being you know just putting up with our Antics and uh we love talking to everybody we’ve had Jeff on there as well won’t be the first time won’t be the last time either so I mean definitely check us out on sweep the league it’s on YouTube search at sweep the League TV uh I heard uh your co-host Gio lays down SmackDown on you when it comes to sports takes yeah yeah he uh I I famously quoted as him saying that he was thinking Kyler Murray was Randle cutting him uh but he’s not even Richie Cunningham right now so that shows you how bad Gio is right there all right see more reason you got to go check out Rudy show sweep the league more on that later all right let’s catch you up with some other Spurs the free agency news that you may have missed and the Spurs have tendered qualifying offers to Big Mamu and a g-league Austin Spurs guy David Duke Jr quickly about David Duke Jr point guard play a bulk of his uh well last season with the Austin Spurs uh a point guard I think that obviously it shows they want to invest in uh so they’re they did qualify him he did play with the Spurs for about four or five games towards the end of last season but again the bulk of his damage was in also Spurs so he’s back likely going to be a two-way deal and but the bigger news is Big Mamu yes Sandro the Spurs did tender him a qualifying offer no news as of this recording whether it’s signed sealed and delivered but nevertheless more than likely he’ll agree with it he spoke with uh an outlet uh overseas Outlet recently saying that he does want to come back he does want to stay in San Antonio be part of the rebuil I think the Spurs it’s just more inevitable really you know I think Mamu and Spurs are going to stay link together aren’t they yeah it’s a very good fit for both the Spurs and Mamu I mean Mamu isn’t going to give you you know World beating numbers uh but he’s going to give you the hustle he’s a big man that the Spurs need spurs are lacking in the big man department so get somebody who’s already familiar with the system and who’s not going to break the bank either uh it’s you know great deal for Mamu to come back from the silver and black and again I mean you just saw his play towards the end of the season it makes sense I mean he puts up some decent numbers he gives Victor a little bit of break here kind of gives Zach a little bit of break mama was a great fit for the sanon Spurs yeah exactly you know toughness hustle gels well with wimy that’s very big wimy gave him a big thumbs up till close of the season so you know if wimy likes that guy on his side you know those brother will try effort to keep him aboard I I don’t expect a break the bank deal I think a very good I mean a little bit of a pay bump he deserves it you’ll probably expect that but I don’t see the Spurs breaking their Bank uh for big Mamu so yeah I I expect I pretty much can foresee that Mamu and Rudy too can see him staying in Spurs colors but perhaps the biggest well not the biggest because that’s Chris Paul as of now unless the spur make a deal and with this whole show is scrapped got to redo it you got to redo it yeah but the other I guess the bigger news before the big CP3 news was that the Spurs did not tender A qualifying offer to Dominic Barlo uh your thoughts on that it looks like the Spurs are going to be willing to part ways with Barlo so I think they’re parting ways with Barlo but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him back with the Spurs probably on a two-way deal or something uh it it’s the Spurs doing due diligence I mean Barlo has put up some some decent numbers he’s shown a lot of promise and it’s one of those things if you go back to like a jock landel stuff like that I mean they’re they’re giving him the opportunity to see if he can land a better contract with another team which I fully expect Barlo to get some interest around the league he proved uh that he can be an impactful type of person for a certain team out there maybe a younger team uh look at maybe Orlando’s one team who’s kind of looking for another big guy in there so uh I kind of expect him to maybe come back if he doesn’t get any interest maybe on a two-way deal but surprising for me a little bit yeah I did like the way Barlo jailed with a lot of guys I felt he worked really hard especially in Austin Jeff you know for a fact Barlo is putting up some good numbers in Austin so I fully expected him to have a roster spot but at the same time could this mean that they’re still trying to free up money for that next big deal that may happen here pretty soon yeah exactly and and get Baro I would like for him stick around you know hustle I mean this kid just he’s like on a trampoline all the time just you know six foot n forward um you know you like what you see he was still raw you know but he was starting to find his own towards the end of the season uh you know he he averaged last season 4.4 points per game 3.4 rebounds 1.1 assist per game shot 40 well nearly 50% 49% from the field and 33% from the three-point line he was even asked to join the uh I guess the g-league All-Star game last year in 2024 so there’s a bright future ahead now as Rudy you mentioned yeah you’re right the Spurs can still resign Barlo if they you know this could be just a formality restructure a deal and then we’re good to go but yeah I mean uh a little surprising you know look he has a m mural in his honor in San Antonio so San Antonio definitely has accepted him as one of his own but we’ll see what happens to Dominic Barnell but one more free agency note before I let you go and brag about sweep the league uh this is via the Philadelphia Inquirer of the Spurs are among teams interested in free agent Tobias Harris that you’ve talked about Harris with your co-host Derek gerin he’s a big Tobias Harris fan uh what do you think should the Spurs bring in the uh the veteran forward I believe he’s be a great fit for the San Antonio Spurs and like you mentioned uh Derek G has been talking this for the past few weeks on sweep the league so before any of this news came out Derrick’s been mentioning it a lot and pretty consistently on sweep the league and it does make sense now Tobias has ties to San Antonio and the fact that he’s worked out at the ger Center in San Antonio many Summers with the George and a few other people so Tobias does have some ties to San Antonio and I think it’s a great vit for San Antonio because he’s probably not going to be getting a whole lot of money he’s not gonna he’s not gonna want a Max contract obviously he’s not going to grab one of those Max contracts but he’s probably gonna come in if he does maybe a two or threee deal maybe that last year is an option for the team a team friendly deal but if you think about it you saw the struggles with Kell Johnson being inconsistently and I know Tobias Harris has been really off of his game lately but like dererk also mentions a change of scenery can change a person so I think on a very team-friendly deal Tobias Harris again brings in that CP3 leadership and mentor and mentorship that you see with Chris Paul so two mentors like that two guys that have been to the playoffs uh in their career two guys that have had success in the NBA that mean just spells a winner and again it’s another step in the right direction as far as the rebuild goes absolutely Le Harris average about 17 points per game last season with Philadelphia 6.5 rebounds 3.1 assists yeah the veteran Ford will add more experience to the roster help Victor wama in the paint he’s a versatile Defender he’s a career 37% three-point shooter so he’ll spread the floor a bit open for Victor and all the other bigs in San Antonio namely Victor though uh but he did ink a five-year $180 million deal with the 76ers in 2019 and he’s durable too he’s played 60 or more games in the last five Seasons so he’ll you know more than likely be on that Court to ready to contribute uh but look if the Spurs want to add him fine but again it’s about the about the price uh you know I I think well they have to eat up the remainder of his contract probably but um I just don’t want to see it Dent that because I I’m still having 2025 dreams in my head right now Rudy and that’s where I think the spur strike right there but we’ll see what the Spurs do free agency period has just begun well we’ll have you covered here on lockdown Spurs and Rudy will have you covered on that and so much more I just focus on the Spurs a little bit of the NBA Rudy will give you all of the sports from NBA to sports uh to wrestling to boxing to MLB tell us about sweep the League what you all got cooking yeah so for sweep it’s going to be a nice long week of NBA coverage due to free agency but then as soon as the Fourth of July week in is done Jeff oh my God it’s football season man we got to talk NFL we’re going to have to go through all these NFL divisions I’ve got a lot of NFL reporters coming on sweep the league so definitely don’t want to miss it drop your questions again go to our YouTube channel all you got to do is go to YouTube search at sweep thee League TV subscribe get that notification button I guarantee it’s a lot of fun appreciate everybody that’s already done it and if you haven’t done it Jeff can really attest to that you’re missing out on a great time no you you can we had fun I had fun with you and Derek the other day uh that was funny it was funny too because I originally thought you were gonna have me on for like a segment and then I got so swept up conversation it was the entire freaking show we did together all three of us and the fans loved it a lot of comments and flowing that’s the good thing about Rudy that’s one thing I admire him is that Rudy’s really good about getting all the fan comments and everybody getting their uh little time in the spotlight to say their Sports take so again make sure to follow Rudy on X at sweep the league and check out his show sweep the league on YouTube are you going to tell cin to just go ahead and give CP3 number three uh I’m going to text him when we’re done here and say what are you going to do with number three because I really think you should give it to him and if he tells me no and blocks me then I’ll be sure to text you and let you know that I’ve been blocked by Kela Johnson on that so I’ll let you know all right K’s in China right now so you have to keep in mind that yeah time difference so before you make that call don’t want to wake him up yeah it’s morning time right now yeah over there but once again thank you Rudy compos for breaking down this big new CP3s in San Antonio we want to hear from you what do you think about the move you let R know you see it on your screen at sweep the leag let me know by simply subscribing and leaving a comment over at the lockon Spurs YouTube page subscribe right now we’ll be back tomorrow talking all things maybe some more fre agency news regarding your silver back popped up but I think we’re going to be putting into Spotlight tomorrow Stefan Castle but we we’ll check all we’ll figure all that out later maybe sometime on the road but nevertheless we’ll have you covered here on lockdown Spurs so for Rudy compos yes subscribe as sweep the league make sure to follow him on X do all that good stuff well I’m Jeff Garcia we’re going to put a lock on this episode of lockdown Spurs [Music]

If you were going to bring in a small guard why didnt you keep the cheaper younger one? Also rob could have learned a lot from cp3.
If we could just get jalen smith of pacers ,affordable contract , we have our selves a true power forward that can shoot 3 , i would trade sochan for smith , straight up ,or if there is no trade , we have a tall line up that can go againts nuggets /wolves /okc/celts cp3-vassell/castle-sochan-jalen smith-wemby , we could crack in the 8th seed in the playoffs
First time waiting for a premier. Spurs Fan 4 Life.
Happy Monday!!! I feel any attempt to help wemby out, is a good move.
It started when CP3 and Wemby did the jersey swap 🤔
Trae Young IS NOT COMING TO San Antonio PLEASE LET THAT PIPE DREAM GO… He's no where near Chris Paul level.
What do you think about UConn Head Coach Dan Hurley replacing Greg Popovich? Both are cut from the same cloth. Winning and discipline.
LEADERSHIP AND HE WILL GET WEMBY THE BALL IN SPOTS WHERE HE CAN SUCCEED . To many times in a game Wemby would call 4 the ball and they would not SEE OR give it to him, CHRIS PAUL Will do that automatically. Chris Paul will also bring better front court Vision no other Point Guard has on this team # INSTINCT'S
IF THE SPURS HAVE ROOM ON THE ROSTER THEY SHOULD DEFINITELY Bring Don Barlow back at least in the G League…. Tobias Harris is gonna want money to come play 4 the spurs he's about his money but he will bring in added veteran play and leadership hopefully on a team friendly deal
Hope he doesn’t teach how to choke in the playoffs and go to other teams’ lockeroom….
Solid A for me. All other options may be younger but it will require us to spend more money and tied to longer contract which we do NOT want upcoming 25-26 season. CP3 will give great mentorship to younger players, as already evidenced by what he did in OKC with SGA. Castle has similar build with SGA and tools so this could be a blessing. He provides that the closer that Spurs did not have for a long time. How many 4th qtrs did we blow last year. Overall very solid pick up while still leaving some flexibility in Wemby's 3rd year.
I'd think sas would like Nunez to get some experience with CPaul too. Does this make Tjones eventually if soon, traceable.??
Flat Earth Believers dont want Chris Paul. They want Dillingham 🤦🏻♂️
sorry guys, but cp3 is going to wear no.3. Its the whole reason he never join dwayne wade and its senior privilege
People forget that Manu's original number with the Spurs was #6. They even did his official rookie portraits in #6. But he never played a game in that number.
I doubt they give CP #6 either.
CP3 will stay till the off-season and Pop will waive him or trade him so he can go to a contender and have a last hurrah. What they get is one of the best pg of all time spending 7 months with Castle and Wemby learning to play high level basketball. All the vets in the team have been shit or false vets.
Chris Paul will be a Player coach. 2024-2025 will.just be another learning season
Ben Simmons he’s not expensive n relieves a lot of stress off wemby
🥳 Wemby Cheat Code? "CP3"! 🏀
Spurs played Sochan at point guard for 27 games last year. The Spurs also lost 24 games by 7 points or less. I tend to believe more and more that we left a lot of wins on the table despite being the youngest team in the league. The Spurs might be better than what we think.
I think CP3 is a legit addition for Wemby development.
Great signing to help mentor the young talent. However, CP3 has never won a title and unless we are in playoff contention, I would not be surprised to see CP3 traded to Boston or other for a chance to get him a ring. This gives the young guys some time to learn from the Vet pro and take the training wheels off when he's traded. Just a thought.
It’s not about his play more about what he can teach the young dudes
You need to chop your videos by half. Today's fans have a pathetically short attn span.
CP3 will be a player-coach. And just b/c he starts doesn't mean he'll be playing 30-35min/game. The "D" juggernaut with VW-Sochan-Castle-Vassel-CP3 will be something to behold. The best thing about CP3 is that he will be around in CRUNCH TIME (if he's not hurt, smh) and his pick 'n roll with VW will be deadly.
Trae Young is not Spurs culture. Maybe Fox next year to replace CP3 in '25-'26.
Mark my words, the Spurs will compete next year…VW is that great. Those who do not see that cannot see he will be even greater in Year 2, esp w/CP3 and the all-star vet (TBD) that the Spurs will be bringing onboard to get VW his ring in Year 2, which is when TDuncan got his first.
Grab your popcorn b/c the "D" juggernaut (VW-Sochan-Castle) that will be the Spurs next season will have some fireworks with VW at Point Center and CP3 as PG.
San Antonio "Dallas Cowboys" Spurs
Won't ever win anytime soon, but will sell a whole lot of gear
Tre jones and graham out, and Castle as his back up! Main reason Castle wanted to come is be a PG!
Now resign mamu
Next level trade!
