Detroit Pistons Could FINALLY Have the Right People

Kate only makes 80 million less than Jason Tatum yeah he’s earned every bit of it there you go there you go but once again I mean you have to resign Kate to a max if you’re the Pistons front office even if you’re thinking about trading him down the road you have to lock him up otherwise he’s not really an asset to be given agre so I mean to me that was a no-brainer to me the Cade move really was just what you had to do not necessarily what they want to do I don’t know that I’m not behind that curtain uh but to me what they’ve done in the draft and leading up to this they’re showing that the urgency isn’t to build around Cade now and that’s why they drafted a project instead of drafting a shooter immediately that could help do you see what uh what he said the kid uh what’s his name Rod uh Ron Holland Rod Holland he said all I need is to tweak one thing and I’m gonna be one of the best shooters in the NBA yeah you’re shot all that’s all you need to tweak your whole damn shot you know that the Pistons right now are a desperate team and they’re not making stupid moves they’re not taking huge swings i lik in it to exactly what Brad Campbell did when he came here Brad Campbell Brad Campbell Brad Campbell my bad Brad Holmes came in here and he focused on the culture which was clearly broken in Allen Park he came in he didn’t go after these major free agents he just got guys and he kept getting guys that were going to establish a new tone here and a new culture and that’s what the Pistons were desperate for they had no veteran leadership they had a disinterested coach they had a lot of money and they were in a situation where they could have traded some of these guys away like Kade where they could have made drastic Moves In free agency overpaid to get guys everything that they’ve done here is safe nothing is super longterm except for the guy and people can ask is this the guy or not doesn’t matter whether he’s the guy or not he’s the only guy here that we can get our hands on and keep our hands on so I like everything that the businesss have done right now I think bicker St is the perfect fit he’s he’s chip on his shoulder um he’s got the the track record of developing young guys and he’s not Monty he’s totally excited to mold these young guys so I’m really excited that this piston team didn’t like overreact to where to how frustrated the fan base is they’re building culture first the players will come after I was uh excited like you and then I read and heard Spenny talk last night on the heavyweights and he kind of put it in perspective are there any better off now with their new coach picker staff and their new players uh their new players Tobias Harris and uh who else Tim Hardway Tim Hardway junr Jun are we better off with them or are we better off with what we had last year Bohan Alec Burks and the head coach Monty Williams they kind of traded those three for those three I I feel better for some reason I don’t know why but are we any better off than we were well it it feels like all these guys want to be here now and last year that may have not been the case right bicker staff we didn’t have to overpay him to get him here he wanted a coaching job he thinks he can get the job done I actually love that signing because it didn’t really cause an emotional reaction from anybody like it was it was okay this makes sense right like oh no this is awful we didn’t get any of that we didn’t get any of this is great either it’s right in the middle it’s kind of vanilla it’s where you need to be because I think everybody knows this a good coach is he great we see no he’s got a chance to prove he’s great but as of right now he’s a good coach he’s not a great one so I’m comfortable with that uh you know Tobias Harris electing to come back and sign the contract here he wants to be here cuz that was the narrative with Monty right like the guy didn’t even want to be here but how do you turn down $80 million you don’t you come sack it in for one year blow up the whole franchise some people say heum some some people say he dumped yeah he did he came here and he and he wanted to get fired but that’s the hiring process that was faulty not Monty’s fault like you got to acknowledge that in the hiring process like this guy really isn’t he doesn’t want to be here if we have to pay him this much where’s his love for the city and that’s that to me is what you brought up with a good point of uh Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell they care about the city they care about the fans Monty didn’t give a damn about the fans he didn’t give a damn about the city and he hardly gave a damn about his players you know he couldn’t really recognize Talent starting Killian Hayes over Jade iy and we can have the ivy conversation all you want but that shouldn’t even be a conversation absolutely right K can’t even make his own damn Olympic team now and he was starting over Ivy so the fact that these guys want to be here at least shows me that they’re going to give some heart yeah for me it’s you look on paper and it’s not a big difference but I think it’s absolutely night and day I differ on Monty Williams sure he didn’t really want to come here but he still came and took a check and I’ve never seen a more absent coach in my history of watching NBA basketball you’re watching your star get battered around and you sit mums a word not saying a thing you take a guy who was on his way to a first team rookie placement in assar Thompson and then you after the first month you just completely destroy the guy minutes you destroy his confidence listen coming into the beginning of last year there was no descent with our players everyone was absolutely happy to be in a Detroit Pistons uniform but that team it looked like like a fifth grade high school coach or fifth grade coach was running this team no one knew what was what was up or what was down no one knew who was going to be starting or playing game to game much less week to week um there was such a lack of leadership that I think that somebody like JB bicker coming in here and embracing this Cade knowing his future as well as his supporting Cass understanding their future and having a couple of veterans that aren’t ready to get out of here but instead signing up to be here I think the culture alone before you even bring in any of the play of these new players on the court that is into the equation I think that they can double their wins just based on where their minds and emotions will be at because the culture has shifted so much away from a guy that clearly didn’t care about anything but his check I mean 28 wins should be attainable every year of existence if you’re a Pistons franchise so like 30 minimum yeah saying they should double it I I think that’s pretty clear but to me it just feels like there’s an adult in the room now like it felt like the coach was running a Kindergarten class with a bunch of young players just running around not knowing where to put them not knowing what to do now it feels like they’re in middle school right you got a guy you got a teacher that you could respect he could be you know he could have a graduate degree but he’s electing to coach be at a middle school and these kids are actually going to sit down and behave and listen a little last year was just I mean it was the worst season in franchise history not only record-wise but just everything wise like it seemed like it just destroyed every minor step forward that the Pistons had or were taking like it okay Cade put up better stats but outside of that everything about that season should be burnt and forgotten about listen man when you draft so poorly like they have drafted over the years but they haven’t lately but listen you got a guy that just got paid a guy that JB bicker staff just coached in Donovan Mitchell three years 153 million he just got the extension so he’s staying in Cleveland it’s too bad JB couldn’t bring him over here drafted Luke exactly this was a guy that could have been here so I want so I want you to go back and I want you to think about this Pistons team if they had Donovan Mitchell uh and if they had Tyrese halberton with those two better all right and you really want to go back even further there’s a lot of other guys we missed on yeah you could do that though with every in every draft but just those two players on those two teams the Pacers now one of the best teams in the East the Cavs they’re closing in on one of being on being one of the best teams but just to play Devil’s Advocate Donovan Mitchell to me is a standoff like that’s that’s a oneoff uh but the halberton trade if you draft halberton you don’t have Kate right because you’re gonna have better win total that year you’re probably not going to win the lottery that year so that’s the question would you rather have a halberton and no Cade or would you like it the way it is right now I’d rather have taken the roll of the dice with halberton and see how see how far they could have gotten and see what kind of team they could have put together together then listen if you go back on Woodward sports.com I wrote articles back then about why the Pistons should draft Tyrese Haler and I sent it to Anon I think it was early this year and like in I was like yeah the guy’s got a funky shot but if he can get that off in the NBA he’s going to be a star and then when we did our live draft party I was screaming for halberton we had some inside information that the Pistons were going to take a foreigner we thought it was going to be that big dude out of Spain I forget his name glad they didn’t take him either he ain’t in the even in the leag didn’t matter anyway but yeah the Foreigner they picked just did not work out and this is the game you play right if you’re a GM that’s the gamble like that’s how serious these picks are it’s not about just this year it’s about your entire future and that’s why you know we can keep going back and it’s so nice that we can keep leaning on the Lions for some goodness in Detroit sports but it it like when you double and triple down like Brad Holmes has been able to do at the draft and get two three starters out of each draft it expedites the growth process so much faster CU you know the Lions have had two first round picks before and what do they do they go get Matthew Stafford and then they get Eric Ebron y okay well you hit on 50% of it but that’s not good enough you know if they hit on ebrown and Aaron Donald oh my God the difference that that would have made for the Lions franchise but they passed on him so when you have these opportunities to have multiple first round picks and you cash in on them it’s Leaps and Bounds like you’re literally putting yourself years ahead if you can do this yeah carry you through an entire decade Just Landing two correct players whether you keep them or whether you trade one you look at where Boston is right now and I know they put a lot of money on it could could prevent them from being able to keep that team together to be able to to establish a dynasty but it’s it’s absolutely invaluable and franchise changing all you have to do is hit two guys we hit halir sure we don’t have that number one pick but then maybe you come back you get a guy like Keegan Murray Foundation is completely different yeah no you’re going M that next year maybe at the three spot and mo quite honest with you might have been the pick to be quite honest with you even over Kade it’s it’s hard to turn down a guy that can do what he can do at 611 that was a I mean listen of all years that was that was a strong like the top five picks were up for debate was Kor green I think for the j j jayen i k is the better player Kate is the better player from Jaylen green but if you’re if you’re looking at The Bigs in that draft if you want to go that route of guards you got The Right Guard but if you’re looking at forward and you know small forward position they they could have gone an opposite direction but we are where we are yes we are this is where the Pistons are um they lost James wisman today I know you guys aren’t too Happ aren’t too sad about that he what are they GNA do horrible he signed with the Pacers two years I like the kid he was a number one pick of of the warriors uh he couldn’t get any playing time there when he came here I thought he was really going to I thought he was going to Blossom it just didn’t happen I believe he’ll do great with Rick carile and those guys believe he’ll do great great I mean wise to me great great in in quotes I think he I think he’ll be better with the Pacers than he than he could have been with us so he’ll average five and three I don’t know we’ll see I mean I I was hyped when the Pistons got wise I was like okay lottery pick you know like I’m all about buying High Talent low and that’s what they did better off with sad B baggley probably would have been better off they all the number two or three picks at one point our whole starting five was a top five pick I believe like two years ago and it still didn’t work out cuz just shows you Talent is one thing being a team is so much different it it really is and when you got guys that can click and play together it’s it’s special and [Music]

  1. His whole damn shot doesn't need to be fixed. Why is this clown hating on everyone. He couldn't shoot a basketball to save his life yet he's over here telling a top 5 pick that he needs to change he whole damn shot. I guarantee you Holland made that statement he was referring to a particular thing in his shot, not his whole shot. Again, he has good form. He was 18 playing in the G league. Not concerned about his trajectory. He will be very, very good even without tweaking his shot for the first few years.

  2. Stick is the biggest hater. The majority of the time, when you go back and look at his takes, he has been so far off. He's horrific at seeing talent or analyzing a player.

  3. i dont understand the spins you guys take…everybody you mentioned has been linked to pistons for months…Tobias,THJ,, SIGN CADE, get rid of monty, Blackstone, lindsey, ..everything same for months!!only difference bickerstaff insteaf of kevin ollie …the star of the team is fred Vinson only real move Langdon made, that weaver couldn't
