Brian Windhorst on the Cavaliers Potentially Trading Darius Garland – Sports4CLE, 7/2/24

we all heard Darius Garland’s Camp Rich Paul clutch Sports would be requesting a trade if Mitchell signed um the long-term contract now there’s some reports that Darius Garland really doesn’t want to go but Rich Paul and his management think longterm it’s better for him to go uh ESPN’s Brian wior on the topic of Garland’s trade value this from ESPN Cleveland I don’t think the market is there for Darius Garland and I think Kobe Alman knows this and he knew this even before um he uh before Deonte Murray got traded and so I don’t I think it’s a terrible time to trade Darius Garland and so even if Darius garland does ask for a trade and I’ll say it again I I I’m not convinced that he will nor do I nor am I convinced that he personally wants to I I could change I could next time we talk have a different set of information I don’t think the Cavs are going to trade him because I don’t think it’s a good time to trade and Kenny I that I guess when you look at it you you don’t want to give away the former fifth overall pick for you know way less we don’t want another Kyrie situation right David right we don’t want to just give them away for nothing because that set the organization back they had a chance to win a championship I would have kept Kyrie said hey go have your knee surgery you’re stay we’re not giving you up he probably would have come back in time to play for the playoffs maybe they win another title but instead what are they they do they Panic they get rid of him and they get nothing in return they can’t do the same thing for Garland I don’t want to trade him just to trade him and if the Market’s not there then guess what Kenny Atkinson said this yesterday that’s why they’re paying me right the big bucks to figure out a way to make this thing work so if Garland stays if Allen stays they run it back with the core four uh then it’s up to Atkinson to figure this thing out yep and you know what points to him he said that’s what they’re paying him to do so he realizes the offense has to be better uh than it was without question

Dave Bacon and Kenny Roda respond to what Brian Windhorst had to say on a potential Darius Garland trade.

  1. I wonder if DG wouldn't be more consistent if he threw in some more step back threes and have a coach play him more like a Beasley. On defense we should use him to force teams into Mobley and Allen with hopefully not enough offensive power to make it game winning. In other words, we know they're going after DG in the playoffs anyway so somehow take advantage of this with more empathies on not getting in early foul trouble. Stop the setback injuries and let the cream rise to the top.

  2. Garland needs to go. Dont need a better 1 to 1 player. Need more size and a better fit. Best time to trade him was after his fluke all star.

  3. All the teams that need a starting PG this off-season has gotten one. Garland knows that. Maybe before the trade deadline there’s more interest

  4. Darius is a flunky…he needs to go. He doesnt work on getting stronger, less injury prone and working on his defense/turnovers and all that lil sh*t a PG supposed to be working on

  5. Now that they waited to trade DG until Mitchell was inked, DG's value is less than it was, and it was already low coming off a bad end of the season. Not to mention two seasons of handing over the rock to Mitchell. Most teams that needed him took care of their business, while Koby sat on his hands. Dejounte to NOP, Spurs drafted 2 point guards and brought in CP3. Toronto just overpaid Quickley. Few teams left out there right now. Maybe at the deadline? Naw Koby's delusional valuation of him probably means Garland and Mitchell will remain the next failed Dame CJ clone show.

Great news Mitchell stayed, terrible news they are rolling back the same regular season heros, post season zeros guard core.
Unless they can flip him to Orlando or maybe Nets , can't see many others at this time.

  6. They need to trade Jarrett Allen… garland is good right where he is… he can score 50 in a game right next to Donovan….

Allen will bring much more in return and unlock Evan…

Am I the only person can see that this is the obvious move after seeing the Boston series and the Cavs hiring an offensive minded coach

  7. the Cavs can't trade DG he really sucked last year. Garland was turning the ball over too much. Running in circles with the ball. The new coach will not hesitate to sit him on the bench.

  8. why wouldn’t he just stay with the cavs and build with mitchell. look what tatum and brown just did. If i’m him, i’m staying cleveland.

  9. There is no "figuring it out" once Donovan signed. You're in win now mode, get better mode. This city has such a loser mentality. Figure it out? WE ALREADY SEEN THE MOVIE! Two undersized guards and it's not working.
