1-ON-1: Getting to know Wizards rookie Kyshawn George | Monumental Sports Network

Chase Hughes here standing by with Wizards first round pick kesan George and kesan I don’t know how many Wizards fans noticed this but during the draft you were actually dribbling a basketball can you explain that for me I mean I didn’t realize people going play much attention to it it was just came naturally the ball was in front of me I just stopped playing with it at first spending on the ball on my finger and everything and it just came that I started dribbling it just natural just a Hooper huh um just like bub Carrington by the way you had a huge growth spurt in high school could you walk us through that so when I was about the age of 15 16 I was probably like 5’8 5’9 145 lbs so it’s just you know I grew that’s all it was I understand your dad was a really good college basketball player and also played overseas how did that shape your development as a player I mean he taught me everything I know about basketball he was my coach for about 15 14 years so like I gave a lot of credit to him because without him I I won’t have all these skills you shot 40% from three at Miami last year what kind of shooter are you now and what kind of shooter do you hope to be longterm I’m a consistent shooter like you said 40 41% from the three I could shoot from deep I could shoot from the corner the wing off the dribble I could you know really put the ball in the hoop and I take pride in that as a shooter what is your offseason shooting program like it’s just consistency you know being every day in the gym and getting up a most a lot of reps most rest as possible and yeah with consistency comes consistency under court so yeah and so what are you working on right now in your offseason program um mostly physicality you know I know I need to step up my game um on the physical level cuz we’re going to play against grown men and it’s just yeah just getting better at every single aspect of the game coach Jim LGA is obviously a legend around these parts for what he did at George Mason what was it like playing for him and what did you learn it was great um being able to have a coach that you know gives you a lot of responsibilities but also a lot of freedom it’s it’s just great to be able to have a you know be in that setting where he gives you confidence gives you that freedom but you know you have to know what to do with it you mentioned on draft night that you know French how good is your French can you carry a conversation with Alex SAR and balal oh yeah of course I mean English and FRS are both my first languages so I mean I’m Florida in both that’ll help you here uh what’s it like being a part of a trio of first round picks most guys do that press conference by themselves I mean that I said before it’s great and it’s two it’s two other great guys too I mean I think we’re a great group of guys good people that you know looking forward to you know impact the this this this new Washington team What do wizards fans what do you want them to know about you off the court I know you said there that you’re big into cooking um how did that come about um I think it was just a passion I mean I watch a lot of cooking shows top chefs and stuff like that it’s just yeah it just naturally came to me you think you could ever be on chops or Top Chef uh probably not anytime soon for sure and I asked you during the press conference about the importance of defense and will wed to build a defensive team how would you describe yourself as a Defender very versatile very in length could guard multiple positions and willing Defender for sure how much are you looking forward to Summer League I can’t wait I can’t wait to hoop get new teammates and just play play basketball

  1. Welcome to DC! I love this pick, the rotation on his jumper is pure, he's a legit 6-8, and has ball handling skills… the sky is the limit!
