Utah makes their first EVER draft pick, Tij Iginla!

the Utah Hockey Club they’ll make their debut in Salt Lake this fall brand new Organization no P at all this will be their first pick in franchise history there’s no link at all to Arizona no there isn’t and it’s an exciting time for Utah from a hockey perspective they have the most c space in the NHL more than $40 million that’s for their GM we’re watching right now Bill Armstrong to spend they in their fourth year in their rebuild they know they could spend to the cap they won’t win a Stanley Cup next year but they want to be more competitive and they need to engage themselves with this new market which is new to hockey but has already shown a ton of promise and how many seed tickets they’ve already sold they have 20 picks in the first three rounds of the next three drafts Bill Armstrong who comes from Arizona their pick is in this is an historic pick since it’s the Utah hocke club’s first pick on behalf of the NHL we are delighted to welcome Ashley and Ryan Smith and the state of Utah to the National Hockey [Applause] League and by the way it’s Ryan’s birthday happy birthday Ryan we’ like to give a shout out to all our fans at the Delta Center um can’t express in words how pumped we are to play there in our first game um to make our first selection Ryan and Ashley Smith can’t boo us we haven’t even done anything yet I like it let’s go all right uh we’re super proud we’re honored to be here we want to welcome everyone to Utah um for many many years to come we’re super proud for the first election and our franchise’s history for 2024 draft Utah selects te ainla wow Jerome’s boy is a Utah Hockey Club guy dad went 11th overall in 1995 to Dallas he was then traded 6 months later to Calgary as the price for the stars getting Hall of Famer Joe new andik who helped Dallas win a cup 4 and 1/2 years later te doesn’t turn 18 until August the 4th he helped Canada win gold at the u8s he scored six goals and 12 points in seven games again Megan a year ago I don’t think people saw him going this High what happen I don’t think so but he’s also such a great character he has all of those offensive measures like a Philip forsberg and the lineage is amazing right his dad is one of those players that is just the allaround encompassing of a hockey player shout out two to his sister Jade who also plays but he really generates a lot of that offense I actually saw him play in hellsinki and the U 18s and he jumped off the page in that tournament so there’s maybe a bit of recency bias in terms of this pick cuz his play was incredible the goal medal game he basically put the team on his back in terms of his goal scoring ability really that quality shot release allows him to score from anywhere and great decision making too finding his teammate able to create that vision and passing spaces excellent decision making with the puck on his stick and able to push the pace with that puck carrying so parachuting into this Utah team now when they are creating a different culture he’s a someone that knows hockey I love this pick I’m bullish on the pick congrats to Utah this is the first pick in their new Inception of course he’s the first pick in their history he’s now drafted higher than his dad so have draging rights at home but just to our left is the Flames box and I looked over at some of them there’s a mix emotions they’re proud of the family but they probably hope that they could get him as well but I love to pick a TIA ginla this kid is a fast Riser out and his fit matches their their uh com yes Jerome and te Mike and Cole singer Paul and Sam Reinhardt Paul and Griffin Reinhardt Dave and Sam G Darren and Ryan shler fatherson top 15 Duos

Welcome to the NHL both Tij Iginla AND the Utah Hockey Club!

  1. Was watching some his interviews and was blown away by how extremely smart Tij is.

With the good genes and that head on his shoulders, this kid is gonna be a gamer. No doubt.

    Great draft pick

  2. Utah should have Arizona & Winnipeg’s history. It’s literally the same team. It was sold and relocated

  3. Probably the worst team out of all the draft him. Team has zero development, nobody to help him grow. Cant even name a utah player other then iginla now😂

  4. Who are they fooling? This is the Coyotes organization with the same players and staff. It's so ludicrous of Gary Bettman being so hellbent on keeping the Coyotes in Arizona. A team hardly anyone cares about. Phoenix is a transplant city and most hockey fans in the Valley DID NOT support the Yotes but rather the visiting team. I know because I live out here and never see anyone wear Coyotes merch but other teams.

  5. You don’t pass up on the kids of dominant hockey players of the previous generation. Both Tkachuk kids should have been the clue. Do not let them slip through your fingers unless it’s a McDavid or McKinnon type

  6. Ryan’s and Ashley don’t let it get to you, theres mixed feelings about the Arizona situation. But Utah is stocked and so excited đŸ€˜đŸ”„ thank you both

  7. We have a trade to announce
And it involve the Calgary Flames and the Utah Hockey Team
 5 sec after the pick.

  8. I’m really crossing my fingers their team name isn’t gonna be stuck as “Hockey Club”.

  9. For the record, Utah hockey club is temporary. They will decide on an official name after year one.

  10. As a flames fan, I think it’s good for him to start somewhere without the franchise pressure he would have in Calgary. Let him play, not have to try to live up to his dad’s name.

  11. i don’t know anything about the arizona besides they stopped having an nhl team. Why are they booing? utah has replaced them but why is it a big deal that players and staff moved over? doesn’t that make sense?
