all right Pro Football Focus out with a couple of new ratings one offensive line groups two defensive secondary groups there’s good news there’s bad news you decide which you want first the bad or the good news I’ll tell you in a moment you know already don’t you which which group’s going to be the bad news in terms of ranking in the NFL and which are good news and and that’s just fine but we’ll go through it a little bit and we’ll tell you why all of this is good news to an extent you know what you don’t have to be the fastest person in your neighborhood if you got a bear on the loose you just can’t be the slowest and that might be what saves the Indianapolis Colts and their secondary this season um we’re going to talk about upside we’re going to talk about downside where it comes to the Indianapolis Colts because there is upside and it’s significant but there is downside and it’s significant too and anybody who tells you which way they this thing’s going to break they’re just not telling you all right hey Hartford loves you right back all right um we’re going to talk about the Indiana Pacers they made a move like out of left field today I didn’t see this coming they signed James wisman of all people today two-year contract uh it’s it it’s guessed by people this is at the the minimum because the Pacers are in a position where if they go beyond the minimum if they go to the mid level ex uh uh the mid level exception they’re going to get into the luxury tax and they’re not going to get into the luxury tax all kinds of punitive stuff happen when you get into the luxury tax and maybe most significantly herb Simon is not going to get that check from the NBA for being beneath the luxury tax which he and every time I think about the luxury tax and the amount of money that the Pacers get because they’re not over it I think of herb Simon running out to the mailbox every day hoping that the check’s in the mail that the check shows up in the box of course he’s not running to a mailbox of course I know it’s direct deposit but still it makes me laugh to think about herb scurrying out to the mailbox to go get that check uh we’ll talk about the fever and who is James wisman and why might he be important to the Pacers we’re going to talk about that and we’ll talk about the fever Caitlyn Clark a chance tonight does she have the Vegas flu right Dan doit was graded the defensive secondaries and the offensive blind you want the bad news first all right that’s the secondary the secondary is uh ranked 28th the good news in this I really expected him to be ranked 32nd because I don’t know who other than Kenny Moore Julian Blackman yeah okay not too bad other than that who’s going to play and who’s going to play well Chu Brent maybe right Jones maybe Nick cross hell I don’t know I don’t know which Nick cross is going to show up sometimes Nick cross is good sometimes he is abysmal we don’t know which guy’s going to show up but the secondary 28th in the NFL the good news in that the Jacksonville Jaguars secondary graded the 29th best or uh fourth worst secondary in the NFL and that’s terrific none from the AFC South in the top 10 in fact none in the top 14 how about that let’s talk about the other good and and the secondary that is a legitimate question mark that is there upside yes there’s upside if Juju Brent plays really really well in his second year and he can stay healthy if Jaylen Jones can play well if Dallas firers can get healthy if Nick cross grows up and becomes a trustable fixture at free safety and if Julian Blackman stays healthy I that’s a lot of question marks man the only thing you don’t have question marks about the only guy is Kenny Moore at the slot corner now the offensive line This is the good news the Colts offensive line ranked third in the National Football League according to Pro Football Focus that is because in large part Bernard Ryman and bradden Smith are both graded from last year 2013 both graded in the top seven among all tackles in the National Football League that’s a really good thing Ryan Kelly the top graded Center in the NFL in pass protection which is a really good thing and please everybody stop saying pass Pro stop just needlessly shortening words don’t do it pass protection pass Pro they take almost the same exact amount of time to say pass Pro doesn’t make you sound any smarter than saying P protection so just don’t say it you can think about it but don’t you do it that’s my tribute to Smoky and the Bandit the great Buford te justice as portrayed by Jackie Gleason all right this is a good offensive line will Fri has wound up being a really serviceable right tackle he was okay last year uh almost to the point of being good Quint Nelson is certainly capable of playing good football when he’s healthy we’ll see if he can get healthy we know he’s had health issues which he never grouses about and and he just keeps playing through him the guy you know what you can call him mediocre if you want but healthy he’s really good and he’s one of those guys who doesn’t you know wave that red flag and say I’m hurt I’m hurt don’t don’t blame me I’m hurt those guys drive us a little bit crazy don’t they and for good reason that offensive line is going to unlock a whole lot for this offense because they’re going to keep Anthony Richardson up right Anthony Richardson is very Nimble within the pocket and he’s got receivers and a running back to use at his leisure to go get the football to and make this offense home that’s where the upside is and by the way uh third like I said for the Colts other other teams in the division hoo uh the Texans ranked 22nd Jags 23rd Titans 30th so if it’s true that you build from the inside out as Chris Ballard has the other teams in this division they ain’t doing it so if the Colts for what would this be this would be the 10th straight season if they don’t win the AFC South this will be the 10th straight year they have haven’t done it eight of those under Chris Ballard’s watch there’s got to be a reckoning like you can’t continue to insist you build From the Inside Out build from the inside out and then lose eight straight Seasons to teams like the Jaguars the Titans and the Texans you can’t make that case that does not make sense this is the Year this is the one this is where Chris Ballard has said this is how I’m doing it these are my guys and with my guys we’re going to win the AFC South if they don’t do it he’s got to go you cannot justify keeping Chris Ballard after this season if they don’t get it done you just can’t you can’t go through eight mediocre Seasons too good too bad and the rest really mediocre you can’t do that and keep your job as a general manager unless ownership just doesn’t prize winning one of two things is going to be true either the Colts are going to win this year and Ballard keeps his job or the Colts are not going to win this year and Ballard’s going to lose his job here’s the third thing forgot the third thing we’re going to learn that Colts ownership does not give a damn less about winning if they lose and Ballard keeps his gig that’s just the way it is uh let’s talk and I think that they could I think they should you got 22 starters returning all the Specialists if you got holes you chose not to address them so let’s hope that Chris Ballard’s right let’s hope that Ron Milas can get that secondary together let’s hope that Tony Spano Jr wasn’t lightning in a bottle in 23 that this is significant and consistent success on that o line let’s hope that Anthony Richardson stays healthy let’s hope that Jonathan Taylor is dynamic let’s hope that ad Mitchell is as good as he looks like he’s going to be and let’s hope latu gets to the quarterback a ton along with pay and O Dango and Lewis and I mean everybody let’s all get back there divorce Buckner Grover Stewart let’s go rayin Davis all right uh let’s talk for a second about the Pacers how about the Pacers Pacers James wisman number two overall pick in 2020 coming of the Pacers on a minimum deal he was originally drafted by the Warriors didn’t play great broke his knee had to sit out a year then came back was traded to the pistons pistons he did okay and in his last game in the regular season he put up a 21 and 17 game for the Pistons maybe he’s somebody he he’s I don’t know a higher end replacement for Jaylen Smith I think that’s fair right at the at the minimum that’s the basement that he’s a replacement for Jaylen Smith feel okay about that I like former number two overall draft picks they got something or they wouldn’t have been number two overall draft picks wisman 611 out of Memphis all right I’m digging it that’s four by the way four lottery picks from 2020 that the Pacers have accumulated they like that 2020 draft don’t they yeah wisman was two uh halberton was eight no toppen was eight Halton 10th or 11th and then n Smith was 14th goodness sake of mercy so we’ll see what happens but I like getting good athletes even good athletes with surgically repaired knees they got something to them or they wouldn’t have gone to uh Fever tonight at Vegas 930 ESPN Vegas 13 and A2 Point favorite that is a spooky LY number either Vegas knows something about the fever and their inability to compete against this team or it’s uh it’s ripe fruit hanging low right I don’t think it’s ripe fruit hanging low I would stay off this game if I were an investor I’m off of this game Caitlyn Clark wrapping up this road trip they got three coming up at home uh next week those games uh Saturday Wednesday and then Friday the Liberty the mystics and somebody else and and then they’re getting real close to shutting it down for the Olympic break which I’m not looking forward to I I hate they’re doing this they got momentum and uh not just the fever but the WNBA as a whole shutting it down I really hope that in Vegas the hyper oxygenated air affects the officiating and all of a sudden the officials become good and don’t need to require replay reviews to call a flagrant foul and stick to it or call a common foul and stick to it don’t go to the monitor to upgrade flagrants flagrant files are flagrant on their face you can see them that’s a flagrant that is a bogus Act Right flagrant you are FL you flagrantly filed that person if it doesn’t look flagrant as as it’s as it occurs how can it be flagrant how do you need to go to the monitor to confirm flagrance it’s ridiculous on its face it’s a flagrant use of the monitor to confirm
