Detroit Pistons Sign Malik Beasley To A One-Year, $6 million Deal

hey guys what is going on Anthony here with pistons talk hope you guys are having a great weekend so far we do have some Detroit Pistons news some Detroit Pistons free agency news and that is Malik Beasley the Pistons decided to sign him this morning now we’re going to get into the signing from jams karania the contract details what his stats looked like last year with the Milwaukee Bucks but what I wanted to do first was there was some breaking news yesterday really late at night like around 11:30 12 and it came from Michael Scot and he had reported last night that the Pistons had expressed interest in Malik Beasley and have flirted with offering the 27y old a one-year deal however Detroit has held off uh for now adid trade discussions with other teams to act as a salary dump dations for draft pick compensations per Michael Scot now obviously the Pistons did shift their focus back into Milik Beasley because we did get a tweet this morning let’s see if I can pull this tweet up real quick for you guys and I can uh let’s go uh Shams reported this morning that Malik Beasley has decided or he plans to I should say to sign a one-year $6 million deal with the Detroit Pistons now I don’t want to say that I’m surprised or shocked this was a guy that I thought could be on the Detroit Pistons radar I mentioned it in April with Corey uh about free agency because we were talking about targets we’re talking about Tobias Harris and I thought Malik Beasley could kind of be of under the radar type of uh shooting guard small forward whatever you guys really want to you know Plug and Play him at or categorize him as I thought he could be an under the radar type of player that the Pistons could Target this free agency and they did the one thing I do really like about him is his ability to knock down three-point shots and we’ll get into his stats in a little bit this is a guy that I think you can plug and play whether you want to start him next to Kate Cunningham whether you want to put him off the bench because now you have two veteran shooting guards Inon Hardway Jr and Malik Beasley uh that are veterans that can hit down three-pointers and you have more perimeter players out there more for spacing I should say uh with Kate Cunningham and I know this video is supposed to be about Malik Beasley but just a round of applause for Trent langon getting a guy like a Malik Beasley uh trading for a guy like Tim Hardway Jr and signing a guy like Tobias Harris you have three floor spacers um in vets that can come in and teach this young Detroit Pistons Team how to win basketball games but I did promise you guys uh we were going to look at Malik Beasley stats and that’s what we’re going to do we’re going to go over to basketball reference one of my favorite basketball websites so we can go over to his stats uh Malik Beasley came into the league in 2016 2017 with the Nuggets he was with them for a couple of years but we’re going to scroll all the way down um to Milwaukee cuz that’s where he was last year and he’s only 27 years old which I I think is actually wild to me cuz for whatever reason I thought Malik Beasley was a lot older he’s only 27 years old you guys which um I know a lot of people always kind of fixate on the does it fit the timeline does he fit our timeline I think 27 is still young enough to fit the Detroit Pistons timeline and he’s not too old to wear he’s just like well he doesn’t fit it for for the timeline people out there but play 30 minutes a game for the Milwaukee Bucks last year shot 44% from the field and this is where I I think a lot of you guys are going to be very intrigued with so he almost attempted seven three-pointers a game made 2.8 of them and a 41% clip last year and that was one of his better Seasons his best season he’s ever had was in Minnesota where he shot 42% on eight attempts and he made three and a half attempts but for the most part throughout his career I if you guys kind of look uh cuz it is highlighted right now he’s been a pretty good three-point shooter on high volume like you can look from 2020 8.7 attempts 8.1 attempts 8.1 8.6 7.2 6.9 um he’s been a guy that’s just a high volume three-point Sharpshooter if you will uh the free throw numbers I I think are they’re they’re there I’m not going to say that um they’re bad he shot 71% this year with Milwaukee year before he shot 61% he was an 84% um in Utah so I don’t I don’t know it seems like he kind of flip-flops it’ll either be like a good season with the Pistons where he shoots 80% or 60% it’s like kind of like he uh takes years to where it’s just like oh I’m going to shoot good for the free throw line this year but hey still pretty good uh free throw shooter um for the money uh 3.2 rebounds this year uh with the Bucks I’m sorry 3.7 rebounds in total 3.2 was just end of defensive and offensive was uh 0.5 um assist 1.4 steals uh 0.7 per game blocks 0.1 doesn’t really turn the ball over too much and doesn’t really follow too much and he put up 11.3 points per game with the Milwaukee Bucks so honestly you’re getting a guy that’s going to be coming in can shoot threes can defend and can help this team and I I I think that’s all you can ask for and when you look at the deal because I did want to get into the deal as well because there’s probably going to be some people at least one person I shouldn’t say I I don’t want to categorize everyone um but there is probably going to be one person that doesn’t like this deal and that’s the be expect and not everyone’s going to like every single move that trun and the Pistons make but it’s a one-year deal you guys 6 million that is a very tradable asset come February if it doesn’t work out and the Pistons want to move on from Malik Beasley and they have suits they have contenders that are knocking on the door saying hey we’ll give you you know maybe some draft capital and a a young player or uh we’ll give you some future draft picks to take on Malik Beasley maybe you know two or 3 seconds to take him on because we we want to have a a playoff run that is a real possibility it’s not a lot of money one-year deal you’re adding a guy that fixes something that we didn’t do last season that was spread the floor and put proper spacing around your franchise player in K Cunningham but I know I rambled for around 7 minutes let me know what you guys think of the signing for the Detroit Pistons do you like the addition of Malik Beasley on this team are you surprised by it was there another shooting guard out there that maybe you wanted the Pistons to go after was it Luke Canard was it Gary Trent let me know Down Below in the comment section I will talk to you guys down there like always hope you guys are staying safe take care and we will see you guys tomorrow on the podcast on Sunday at 7730 uh peace o

  1. Trajan is doing a great job so far. I hope he considers signing Paul Reed and Tyus Jones next.

  2. Desperately need a vet that is properly sized to play the C position that brings defense to backup and mentor Duren.

  3. So what does this mean for Ivey because that’s 3 sg that need playing time. Do we trade Ivey now or does Ivey move to backup point
