[Scotto] The Dallas Mavericks have considered bringing one of two former guards back to the team, Spencer Dinwiddie and Dennis Smith Jr, league sources told HoopsHype. Should Dinwiddie and Smith Jr. land elsewhere, Malachi Flynn is also on Dallas’ radar, HoopsHype has learned.

  1. Need some guard defense.

DSJ – You ARE a Dallas Maverick.

    DSJ welcome back party.

i’m good on Spence especially after his comments last trade deadline on why he chose the lakers lmao

  3. TexasTundraPower

DSJ would be nice for those “we need one more stop” lineups at the end of games. Dinwiddie is one who can legit get his own shot. Tough choice.

Please find a back-up PF with a semblance of a shot instead.

The 15th roster spot, almost by definition, goes to a 3rd stringer. It’s the ultimate depth spot.

Bearing that in mind, I hope it’s not a guard. Mavs plan to start three guards (100-ish minutes there already) and have three playable guards on the bench in Exum, Hardy and Grimes. Two of those are about to enter RFA so they want to play more and the FO probably wants to evaluate them. A seventh guard will not play.

On the other hand Mavs are thin in the frontcourt, especially at the PF position. PJ starts and Maxi is a good backup most of the time. But Maxi also missed >50% of regular season games over the last two seasons. The third string PF is OMax who is still playing summer league. Naji is a 3 who can play some 4, but is definitely better at the 3. There’s a lot more chance that a 3rd string PF will come in useful than a 3rd string guard.

    Interesting choice.

Dinwiddie balled when he was with us but he spurned us to go to the fucking Lakers and he came up with some bullshit comment about us being mommy etc justify it probably thinking he had a better shot with the Lakers to win. Would we bring out the best in him offensively again? Is he cooked? Am I bitter and petty over the spurning?

DSJ is still friends with Luka. He would be a really good point of attack defender and a PG that would push the ball. Can’t shoot.

I don’t know anything about Flynn but he scored 50 against Atlanta. That’s quite an accomplishment to score 50 but it was against Atlanta. But every turd has a career day in him.

I feel like we’ve got a ton of defense now and need a little more shooting because I just don’t know how well the new guys, other than Klay, will shoot. If Luka and Kyrie have to miss time which of these do we want playing a lot?

  6. highfalutinman

DSJ is the way to go. Bring that young man home

  7. Swagovich

DSJ sold hella jerseys fans would be happy to have him back, myself included.

  8. anon641414

I feel like we can can do better than either of these guys

  9. Skyrimosity

Dinwiddie gotta be studied as a lesson in PR. Dude turned an entire fan base that absolutely loved him against him in just a few sentences

  10. Ill-Bat-2621

Paul Reed got waived rather have him back up our thin 4 spot.

Yall are crazy for wanting dsj more than dinwiddie. Do you not remember 2022? You think he fall off that hard in 2 years? Dudes still 31 years old.

We’re not getting a transcendent defender in DSJ and I don’t want his attitude in the locker room. Yall blame Rick but DSJ just thinks he’s a $100 mil player and to bring him on a vetmin would just create a cancer in the lockerroom

Lakers didn’t even play Dinwiddie. Ham didnt know how to use him. And in Brooklyn, Mikael Bridges was a ballhog

  12. Ill-Bat-2621

idk why people wants a PG when we are a yearly maxi injury away from having no 4 other than PJ.

  13. Pass on both Spence and DSJ. Pluck Mac McClung out of the G-League and sell a bunch of jerseys.

  14. lol, this sub is too much sometimes. In what world is DSJ a better player than Dinwiddie? Y’all are absolutely nuts.

Give me Dinwiddie all day. DSJ is not some elite defender. He’s serviceable and has no jump shot. Y’all gotta get over the whole “spurned us for the lakers” thing. These guys are professional athletes, they are allowed to play wherever they want.

Would still rather have a power forward available for when Maxi inevitably sits for months on end. Unless this is the brass’ way of telling us OMax is good to take the backup minutes.

  16. Amazing_Owl3026

DSJ hit a game winner over Kyrie 2 years ago. I think Kai can forgive him tho

  17. Dirks_Knee

If this is true, looks like Hardy is on the way out.

  18. mypersonalbrowsing

DSJ has been humbled and out of the league. He knows his role with the Mavs and will give it 110%. LFG!!!!!

  19. Swoosh_rotaerc

Theoretical question, I’d they do bring in DSJ, who wears no. 1?

    Hardy? Klay? DSJ?

  20. DSJ = can defend, can’t shoot Dinwiddie = can shoot, can’t defend

I don’t think I want either, simply because the thing they’re not good at, well, they’re really, *really* not good at it.

  21. Neither? I want to see a championship and not sure either of them are the best pick to hold down that last spot.

  22. Andrew0409

I rather develop Hardy than have DSJ. He has shown potential and he isn’t afraid of playoff moments. He’s just a bit out of control sometimes but guards need time to adjust.
