Kevin Durant on trade rumors “You can just make up lies and everybody’s going to believe you, you can just press the ‘KD wants to leave’ button anytime you want some attention… It bothers me that people lie like that and it bothers me that the audience eats up lies.”

Maybe if he didn’t always want to leave, it wouldn’t be so believable when anyone says it

  2. espn going to turn this interview into a week long discussion filled with hot takes galore

  3. Vicentesteb

Kinda a boy who cried wolf situation. Like if you hadnt requested a trade from Brooklyn twice after leaving OKC and GS in free agency, maybe people wouldnt believe if they said you wanted to move.

I dont think theres a single soul who would believe it if someone said “Jokic is looking to move on from the Denver Nuggets”.

  4. BasedGodProdigy

I wonder why people get the feeling you’ll abandon ship when things don’t go your way

  5. I get doubting how sincere he is, but him asking to be traded happened on a single team so far. I don’t get the borderline hate.

I might be considered a suns “fan” and thus be biased, but I honestly think the situation in brooklyn was understandable to some extent. On his 2nd request Kyrie wanted out, which will make KD stuck in that team with Ben taking up cap space. I’d be happy to be corrected or given relevant info because I do not know specifics

Nothing KD said was wrong at all. May not be the best of messengers but everything he said was correct. People are very quick to believe narratives that confirm biases or just reflexively in general, and we know the media will push stories with minimal context for clicks.

I don’t think when you reach the level of Woj/Haynes/Shams/Fischer/etc. you’re spreading “lies” but what is true is everyone has their own narrative and people talk and if it gets you clicks, you’re gonna report what the GM from another team has to say about a certain player, etc.

People will believe anything these days. A KD demanding a trade rumor is rather tame compared to others.

  8. Well nobody is making Steph wants out rumors. Why is that?

  9. BXtherapist

Uncle Dennis and Nephew have damn near held 3 franchises hostage, while picking-n-choosing when to play, but they know Kawhi won’t acknowledge them, so they put the bone near KD😂😂😂

  10. shoshannahthewarlock

Truthful and mature response from a dude who seems like he’s having fun playing in a big city on a team where he’s got some bros like Booker and Royce, regardless of Suns lack of playoff success.

  11. michaeleid811

it would be helpful to stop if teams and players didn’t lie about what was true and what was a lie instead of just calling anything negative that might be true a lie.

  12. txwoodslinger

You created the situation you’re in bruh

  13. Hovi_Bryant

The truth is rarely sexy. He’s absolutely correct.

  14. toadtruck

Buddy that button exists and you have pressed it yourself multiple times.

  15. Yallcantspellkawhi

Of course thats right about sports journalism in general and he is one of the most targeted within his field, but SAS rumour made actually a lot of sense and still, people barely believed him.

  16. VikingsandWolves

Bradley Beal on that supermax might make anyone have 2nd thoughts tbh

  17. alaspoorbidlol

Well, it’s something that’s happened three times before so it’s certainly believable. Even if it might not be true this time it’s not like there’s no reason to believe it might be

  18. killersky99

He’s completely right but he could also leave at the trade deadline after saying this.

  19. whitewolfkingndanorf

Unfortunately for KD, these rumors foster engagement and interest in the NBA which make it more profitable leading to bigger salaries for players. Gotta take the good with the bad.

  20. He might want to ask himself why the “KD wants to leave” button even exists.

  21. The_Money_Guy_

Isn’t it weird how like 80% of the rumors end up being true?

  22. Idk… The number of fans that don’t see the headlines or don’t believe them or just figure it’s a drama headline is probably a very high percentage

They’re just not the ones active on social media

  23. Unique_Enthusiasm_57

They very briefly tried it with Wemby before the Spurs stopped it.

    They tried it.

  24. Troll_U_Softly

If he doesn’t want people to be quick to believe the rumors maybe he shouldn’t have been so quick to take the hardest road.

  25. DudeLikeYeah

He’s not wrong, but he also does have this reputation for a reason.

  26. External_Orange_1188

I think both KD and the people he’s talking about are too invested mentally on what is said. KD needs to stop checking out forums and social media. Someone is bound to talk about him. Why should he care? People are also so stupid spreading rumors and unnecessary hate on him.

  27. FoxMan1Dva3

He says these things, then he is going to leave lol

  28. Masterchiefy10

Then he really must have corpo news like Fox and friends

  29. MajinOni21

Why are ppl in this thread acting like KD is always asking out?

He’s always fulfilled his contracts and only ever asked out when he was facing an impossible situation of Kyrie being traded and getting little value of return. The Nets era quite literally blew up on an all fronts

By all means he’s committed to Phoenix and we have little history of showing that he’ll not fulfill his contract there

  30. Kingofkings1959

Bro is on his 4th team, always left the prior team on some messy shit. Asked for trades last 2 times

  31. WolverineLong1430

Because most fans are overgrown child who parrot what others say and cannot think for themselves. It bothers you and they enjoy it.

  32. paintpast

He knows from experience because he posts lies on his alts all the time and people believe it.

  33. HamstersAreReal

He’s right but he’s kind of the wrong person to say this.

  34. FlavorSki

Seeing as he always asks to leave maybe they are going for the broken clock right twice a day type strategy.

  35. He’s 100% right and this sub is deluded if it thinks it’s absolved from the eat up lies allegations

  36. I mean, repeated behavior and patterns. You expect people to naysay something when you’ve done it twice in a row before? Cope

  37. ibeauch009

If it bothers you then maybe you should think about why you have this reputation
