Kings Land DeMar DeRozan In Sign-And-Trade | Emergency Pod ๐Ÿšจ

[Music] [Music] [Music] good morning sweet world and welcome to the no dunks podcast on the athletic Network it’s Sunday July 7th 2024 I’m J SK here in the yard and alongside me as always that’s Tas melis basketball free agency lovers this one’s for you and you see him here on screen shout out to everyone joining us on YouTube making the magic happen super producer JD hello there he is how are you JD how the last couple days been yeah it’s been great it’s been uh hot lots of pickle ball lots of beer uh lots of just chilling by the pool you know well it’s going to get hotter you see the temperatures in Vegas where we’re headed to later this week it’s like 47 yes yeah yeah 47 Celsius H but it’s say it’s a dry heat yeah no that’s big that’s big it was 95% humidity today in Atlanta I know for a jog I think the worst I I jogged many miles I think the worst part was getting back and just being wet I hated it wow good for you though better man than I am today uh we are here for a emergency podcast look we’re getting a little Loosey Goosey with that definition but we had some big news last night let’s jump into it demard de R roen has joined the Sacramento Kings through a signning trade the deal is a three-year $76 million agreement I think W said 74 sham says 76 hey let’s call it 75 that will send Harrison Barnes and unprotected 2031 pick swap to the Spurs the Bulls received former first round pick Chris dwarte two second round picks and cash for cooperating so it is a three-way deal here Tas we can go through sort of each team we got to start with the Sacramento Kings uh getting the the star player in this uh what was your initial reaction last night to D roen going to the Kings well seeing the way it was received by Kings fans at summer League yesterday part of me was wondering was this choreographed it almost felt like a little bit of a choreographed show the opening act coming out to the summer league at Sacramento’s Arena was Kings GM Monte McNair he was the the opening act it felt like they and they knew that D rozan was traded so they clapped for him but then D rozen came out as well after meeting with owner Vivic ronad and he came out and everybody was cheering I mean it was a real Ovation they were expected they excited for the primary event here and then Kendrick Lamar’s not like us played which which D rozan was in the video that was that was put out this past week so it almost felt like yeah this is the show baby but I I think the uh the PA announcer the the actually the audio controller there in Sacramento didn’t play Kendrick Lamar is not like us right away he was like waiting to see you know what’s what’s the reception going to be like but then when everybody was louded he’s like I gotta play this off boom he played it and yeah dear used to be a drake man and he still supports Drake verbally like he still says you know Drake is always my guy but now he’s a Kendrick Lamar guy so I mean this was a show I know like you said at the beginning are we we going a little too too low in terms of emergency pods I don’t know this was a show this was fun this is great for dear frankly just to be able to go to somewhere that has playoff aspirations at the very least you know yeah yeah and like I guess it was Wednesday um it’s been weird to keep track of days here recently with sort of the holiday and all that but I think it was Wednesday that we had our guy Mark Spears I think it was on NBA today and he was describing the Kings as like a darkh horse to get to Rosen and so this started to gain momentum here this idea that he was going to land there but the Bulls were pushing back like hey we don’t want Harrison Barnes we don’t want the contract oh who we got a visitor joining us do we have thoughts on rozan yeah yes she’s excited she heard about it um many here you want to come here do you want to be on on the show how many times there’s a bug apparently I got to get rid of a bug oh well we’re in the sou girl we have a show talking we’re talking about Demar de rozan are you excited about Demar de rozan DD you you know his daughter his daughter was a big basketball fan I say she scream during free throws too yeah okay we got to get that bug it is the South the bugs are big down here go get that Beetle go get that Beetle now she named it Michelle after Michelle Beetle no spider it’s a spider okay we’ll get that spider shortly will get it we’ll get that taking care of but yeah I don’t know to go back to the you know it gaining momentum and whether or not we should even be doing this podcast and maybe not because we got kids to watch but D rozen’s like the most accomplished free agent signing commment whatever we’re calling this the that the Kings have ever had in Sacramento I know he’s getting up there in age I know he’s almost 35 uh and we can talk about like what will this field look like in a couple years can he stay at the level he’s played at like he did in Chicago but this is still a six-time All-Star couple time all NBA he wanted to go there he really you know again has this gain momentum sort of zeroed in like hey can I go to Miami H they don’t got anything okay Sacramento I’ll go talk to Mike Brown I’ll talk to Fox I’ll talk to mon so like this is big for Sacramento you can see why they G the Ovation there last night absolutely he can’t be a number one guy I I think we’ve all established that especially as he gets older if it’s going to be a winning type team but like what you said about what he’s established here in his mid-30s last year he almost had eight free throws per game that would lead the Sacramento Kings 7.7 free throws per game so he’s playing both hard on the offensive end playing a lot he led the league and minutes played at 37.8 minutes per game that is freaking a lot uh that’s the first player in his 30s to lead the league in mes per game since LeBron did in 2018 so there’s that part of it he got better defensively I think that’s the the worrisome part with the Sacramento Kings yeah is they were middle of the- pack defense and now when you’re throwing out sabonis Fox and Demar D rozan those are clearly the three guys that are going to be both opening and closing games and we can talk about the other guys who are going to be around him and I think Monte McNair is not done in terms of that but he did play better as a participant in the Bulls defense like his first season hey what’s up Trey Trey Kirby jumping on here Trey Kirby jumping on baby excited about Demar roen a oh he played defense in Chicago I heard did he did he took some chares inen look it’s sad when D rozan leads your team he’s a supremely cool guy very fun to watch he’s going to hit some incredible big shots at the end of the game a big shot maker but we all know it’s a tough fit but I’m interested for the Sacramento Kings because they had to get better uh and they definitely got better uh they gave up Harrison Barnes in this deal basically from the rotation so we’ll see how it plays out but uh yeah I’m sad to see D rozan go um but you know the Bulls are doing something smart here finally yeah sure the Bulls have gotten more than Chris DTE and two second round picks I mean that’s what Bulls fans are definitely a little upset about why don’t we give up on him earlier rather than just get Duarte and two second round picks for a guy who’s who’s done a lot in the NBA and was the clutch King last year I mean this I know he’s not a a number one guy but still um that ain’t a lot I know you love your Chris Duarte SKS but that ain’t a lot yeah yeah I’m a big DTE head uh I think they the big part was hey why Why didn’t we get the pick swap you know I saw some Bulls fans wondering that because hey we could take on the salary too here but they said no we don’t want to do that we’re not paying any luxury tax we first off never do that and we’re gonna be bad here now so we definitely don’t want to do that uh hence why that third team and the Spurs got involved and we can we can talk about them I mean you know taking on Harrison barns who will probably play for them maybe help them actually try and get into like sort of a playin conversation but yeah what was your reaction Trey to the to the return uh not just in this steal but obviously the the Caruso Giddy and and your entire summer really well I think Bulls fans are actually happy that the Bulls are getting literally anything back for D rozan the guy’s leaving in free agency uh they didn’t have to get anything if he just signed for cap space somewhere and you know about with a month left of last season we were talking I think probably in an up down report of the Bulls potentially offering D rozan 40 million a year for three years that that doesn’t make any sort of sense so I think I think what the Bulls are doing is the right thing here yeah they’re not getting a lot back for D rozan because they wanted to make it to the playin tournament last year we all knew that was the case they did make it to the playin tournament last year a thrilling nine10 Victory before once again not making the playoffs so there is a tiny bit of a return in a couple of second round picks which usually don’t mean anything these things get traded all the time but it gives them something that they can trade in the future I think the Bulls are going to be one of the five worst teams in the league going forward for at least this season next season we’ll see what happens with LaVine we’ll see what happens with vvi but they’re positioning themselves to be one of the worst teams in the league which hasn’t necessarily been the Bulls way so yeah all they get back is a couple of second round picks and Chris dwarte like that’s fine uh to me for a guy who was going to be leaving anyways compare it to Fred Van vet the Bulls were in the same position the Raptors were van vet just walked to Houston and it worked out fine for Toronto worked out fine for Houston I’m hoping the same for the Bulls yeah the Bulls summer here when you’re like sort of zooming out D rozan gone Caruso gone Andre Drummond gone and in comes Josh Giddy dwarte and Jaylen Smith that is definitely a team uh leaning into let’s be bad and then there’s the Zack LaVine part of this equation too where they’re still trying to move this guy uh and maybe they have to attach a pick to get off of him in that contract but uh I don’t think they’re done either but Tess to go back to something you said about the Kings you don’t think the kings are done here you slip that in there you think there’s still a possible what Kevin herder trade that they could explore or what do you think yeah know if it’s Kevin herder but I don’t think Monte McNair is done because as I said we’re going to watch them close games with Fox sabonis and Demar de rozan but they are lacking some size uh because this team is just stocked full of guards there’s no doubt about that fox Malik monk Keon Ellis Devin Carter um who Monte Ellis or Monte MC loves I always call him Monte Ellis Monte McNair loves as he said after drafting him if you watch the NBA Playoffs there’s a lot of Deon Carters out there and then Kevin herder who you just mentioned so there’s a bunch of guards and at the wings they’re they’re lacking just to play a little 34 you can throw Demar de rozan in there and Keegan Murray and that’s all they have and so yeah whether it’s herder um they have their first round picks to trade but they need to get some sort of four out there uh whether it’s Kyle kma I think there’s potential there he’s signed for three years although he didn’t want to leave for Dallas reportedly didn’t want to go to Dallas at the trade deadline declin the trade there so it’s him or the Nets are the same position as the Wizards who are just wanting to to to trade down like they’re like the Bulls uh they want to get the heck out of uh the mid-range territory and they could trade cam Johnson who uh I know isn’t loved by a lot of teams but would fit in the four spot as a Defender and that’s the thing about this team so it’s Fox zonis Demar de rozan and then who do you put around if you want a an offensive team it’s monk that makes sense and Keegan Murray um or if you want to go really defensive it’s Keon Ellis or Devin Carter and so yeah I guess it could be Kevin herder uh although you know he went to Conference Finals a few years ago like I I I think it all depends on who the other team really wants but they need whether it’s cam Johnson or Kyle kosman it’s it’s a guy like that and I I think some size yeah definitely yeah where do you see like limitations to this currently constructed roster here in Sacramento uh playing defense I think is going to be the problem for Sacramento going forward because absolutely they’re going to close games with fox D rozan Murray and sabonis the question will be who is the fifth guy and the first four are not Defenders but that kind of points to me that the the kings are deciding yeah you know we tried to improve our defense last year didn’t matter at all they got up to 14th but they dropped to 12th in offensive efficiency they were a more a team with a better identity I think uh the year that they were really light in the beam trying to be the best offense out there I think this makes them better offensively but they’re absolutely going to have to find somebody who can be like a physical rebounding four and also hopefully shoot some three-pointers now that they’re GNA be playing sabonis and D rozan on the court together both guys who like to play nearer the basket so I don’t know is Isaiah Stewart a guy they could get from Detroit you know tough guy who can sort of shoot it from outside I think that might work there guys like cam Johnson kozma you’re just getting a different era Kyle or Keegan Murray I really think they need more of a a physicality guy uh going forward because right now if they run into any of the big guys in the Western Conference it’s over yeah yeah they’re definitely going to need Keegan Murray to continue with his three-point shooting which I mean he’s still young and he’s proven that he is a pretty good three-point shooter but Fox he’s always like hit or miss right feels like one season he’s on one season he’s off once se’s on once se’s off he needs to be a good three-point shooter like he was this year a lot of attempts uh nearly eight three-point attempts per game and I think it was like 36 37% so you that’s good you want that better but he that’s important because D rozan I mean a lot of teams D rozan plays on they rank in the bottom 10 if not the dead last when it comes to three-point shooting because that’s that’s not his game he does many other things well but that’s not part of his equation so uh that’s going to be gonna be something to watch I’m fascinated by this team I mean I’m a Kings fan for some weird reason it was fun to see them break through and finally make the playoffs and then obviously took a step back last year uh and you said it Trey a lot of us myself included we love D rozan he’s just cool so that like the The Vibes of this team look good but can they stop anyone that’s who and and their bench is outside of like who I like obviously monk I think he maybe should have won six Man of the Year probably lost it because he got injured at the end LS definitely gives him at least a little defensive Edge on the perimeter and then it’s shl it’s it’s not that impressive like as much as I like Trey L and Alex Len and Stu I mean it’s a bit of a drop off so I wonder yeah can they get some more depth but they are trying to stay in the race here Tas like hey we sort of took a step back all these other teams are improving in the west we want to get back into like you know top F four five six we want to be in the playoffs not in these playin races it’s scary times in the Western Conference when you’re talking about all the teams that they got a they got to battle with uh because yes um they took a tiny step back they went from 48 and 34 to 46 and 36 and it felt like because they dropped off a little bit offensively it didn’t feel like that same team that was thriving and growing um a big part of that was Malik monk being injured and Kevin herder being injured the the last several weeks of the Season uh and here we go uh as a Kings fan you got to be excited that they are fighting and trying but they are fighting with so many good teams like Memphis is going to be way better obviously Denver and Dallas and Minnesota and OKC are going to be good uh then you got a Pelicans team that should be good and then you know the the the veteran tryhards like the Phoenix Suns uh the Lakers I that that is a battle uh for the Kings but they didn’t mortgage their future like you know obviously sending out a bunch of draft capital or something like that they they improved D rozan is better than Harrison Barnes they didn’t give up a ton he signed to you know okay You could argue maybe it’s too much or whatever but they didn’t like kill themselves even if it doesn’t go well like it’s they haven’t like oh my God that was a terrible risk like so I like it in that regard just the talent upgrade to try and stay with these teams and maybe to trades right like just to like get back to kicking ass offensively because we got a lot of shot makers and if these games are close you got two of the best in in uh obviously D rozan and fox uh when it comes to clutch shot making even you can throw monk in there he’s he’s a a gamer too in the final couple minutes so it’s got to be within games yeah they got to get bigger that’s for sure and when they gave up Davon Mitchell and Sasha venkov a few weeks ago for money to be able to to to get bigger uh that was the idea I mean they were just loaded at the guard spot so they said yeah Davon Mitchell is a great defender but we have now a far cheaper one in Keon Ellis they drafted Devin Carter to go along with funks Monk and herder they’re they’re small and they got a bunch a couple of guys who play D really hard there they need a wing uh and they need size um so it looks like they’re at least POS positioning some of themselves to to make a trade uh but they really didn’t give up a lot in this one Harrison Barnes was finally dealt I don’t know how many years uh we’ve been asking will Harrison Barnes be dealt for somebody that they need to win but it’s been a lot and it finally happened like I don’t know seven straight years it feels like I mean like five I don’t know yeah but they didn’t give up a lot in this one at all so let’s just briefly what are your thoughts on the Spurs slipping in here Trey and and getting another first round pick swap out of a team I mean it’s way down the line it’s 2031 this one with Sacramento it’s unprotected though but now they have five swaps I think from 26 to 31 they have Atlanta’s in 2026 unprotected they have Boston’s in 2028 which is top one protected Dallas in 2030 unprotected Minnesota in 2030 top one protected and now this Kings won uh and yeah they added Harrison Barnes who maybe with Chris Paul another vet uh come in here and help this team around wanyama what do you think all right playerwise getting Harrison Barnes in I think is exactly what you’re saying SKS it’s a Chris Paul Jr you know Carrison Barnes a’t on Chris Paul’s level but he’s played a ton of seasons in the NBA he’s a veteran he’s got size he knows what to do on both ends of the court it’s G to just make things easier for wenyama not to similar to what the Rockets did last year bringing in vets and Van vet and Dylan Brooks just so that your team makes more sense and that you look more like a competent basketball team so I think good stuff for San Antonio they’re going to be in the mix uh I think late into the season at least next year assuming wemi stays healthy like they should at least make it interesting for the 10 seed we’ll see how it goes you got to win a lot of games to get to the 10th seed in the Western Conference so I mean if they’re approaching north of 30 wins getting to 35 awesome season for the Spurs getting the pick I think is pretty interesting they’ve got like you’re saying they’re shorten a bunch of teams in the league out there five and six seasons down the line and if you’ve got five potential T pick swaps you got to figure one of them is going to be pretty good and really do you think that fox and sabonis are still going to be in Sacramento by 20131 highly unlikely it’s more unlikely they’re not yeah exactly right if uh if I were better which of these picks turns out to be good Sacramento would be pretty high on the list if we’re being quite honest so I think for the Spurs facilitating the deal they got a little bit better they got a little bit smarter getting Harrison Barnes and they got a chance at something paying off nice for him down the line yeah Tess what do you think about San Antonio here I like seeing the actual description of a pick swap being in unprotected pick swap meaning like if the other team is the first pick you got it if you want it instead of it having it a protection on a pick swap so yeah it’s that’s a long time from now who knows what Sacramento is going to be like uh but for the Spurs they traded before this trade happened they traded Devonte Graham see you later uh to Charlotte basically to save money to be able to to absorb Harrison Barnes contract there was a bunch of this going on when that happened for sure the windy pointing the fingers yeah what is going on in San Antonio Charlotte then just releasing Devonte Graham who wants him uh it obviously did not work in San Antonio but this is smart yes when you’re talking about Chris Ball and castle in in the back court it’s nice to have a a vet wi um that can obviously play D I mean the kings are going to miss him a little bit on that side um and that’s why they got to to size up a little bit and obviously wemi so yeah they’re going to be fighting for the playin spot I don’t see why that’s uh that’s out of the question I mean there’s just not a lot of bad teams in the west so they’re going to be fighting even for the playin spot but that’s exciting I think that’s that’s the exciting part of this yeah for sure uh any other final thoughts here uh Trey on on this three-way sign and trade deal D Rosen going to the Kings uh Bulls picking up some pieces instead of nothing uh and obviously the Spurs getting that uh that pick swap what do you think I haven’t been on the internet very much this morning or last night since the trade went down but I assume it’s just Universal Acclaim for Chicago in this right because people have been telling me they need to blow it up and move on and be bad for you know the past two seasons they didn’t do it uh but now with the moves they’ve made so far bringing in giddy uh for Alex Caruso and then now letting D rozan you know basically walk for nothing but getting back a deep bench guy and some second round picks I assume people are now thrilled with the direction of the Chicago Bulls because they’re going to be bad they’ve got a top 10 protected first round pick going to San Antonio uh next year’s draft it seems likely that they’re positioned to be able to keep that one going forward it’s top eight protected the couple of Seasons after that so maybe the 26 draft is looking okay for the Bulls as well but might they might have to pay it off I guess uh in 2027 uh but yeah there was an opportunity for teams to bottom out I think this year because like you’re saying in the Western Conference task basically everybody except for Utah and else is going to be good I mean there’s two bad teams in the Western Conference there’s probably another three in the Eastern Conference and you can add the Bulls to that list I wonder if they’ll be able to attach a pick and move off LaVine I wonder if they’ll be able to do something similar with v my guess is that they’re more likely coming back because the Bulls are clearly in rebuild mode right now so they don’t want to be attaching assets on the way out and I think maybe getting a couple of second round picks in this D rozan deal as part of that as well saying we’re getting a little more into our asset chest so so that we can hopefully position ourselves better to actually win a playoff series because it’s been since 2015 for the Bulls to win a playoff series and uh with the moves they’ve made in June and July I don’t think necessarily that 2025 is going to be breaking the streak uh but 2030 is looking nice was the only game the Bulls only playoff game the Bulls won the one where D rozan went for like 41 is that correct against the the Bucks yeah bucks yeah wow that’s pretty wild to think I was I was flying home in between game two and game three and people were Middleton was hurt with an injury and game two people are saying wait a second could the bulls pull this one off biggest playoff home loss in game three oh yes that’s right history and I was there thanks oh that’s that’s biggest home a 30 spanker right it was by 30 point oh it was bad baby yeah yeah yeah Tony Bradley went five for five in the fourth quarter though it wasn’t his fault wow I I will say like looking at the trade grades from this that I’ve seen people love what the Spurs did like getting in there getting another pick swap Addison Harrison Barnes like another vet like he said so we just went over that so people love that a lot of a grades on that the Bulls yeah it’s more like people are like yep at least they’re sort of Leaning into being bad they got something in return though there’s a lot of push back like they waited too long how did they not get a first- round pick for giddy how did they maybe not move off of D rozan earlier again you went over that so whatever you see some B’s and C’s and stuff like that it’s the king’s grade that’s like people really love this or people really hate this and when the people that don’t like it they’re just pointing out like they just maybe got a little impatient right and that they’re sort of rushing in here you still have Fox and sabonis they’re pretty young Keegan Murray two years left on his rookie contract did they make a too high of risk here for a 35-year-old d rozan uh and whether he fits the team stuff we’ve all gone over I can I get that side of the equation but again it’s a huge Talent upgrade they want to stay competitive so we’ll see um can they they gotta sort of keep an average defense and get back to that Elite defense or offense excuse me from two years uh prior uh can they meld those together but those are the grades I’ve sort of seen from most people uh T do you have any final thoughts on this because we got a little more news I want to slip in but any more thoughts on this yeah I I don’t know how you can be upset about what the Kings did going forward and trading Harrison Barnes essentially for Demar de rozan it’s an upgrade it’s definitely an upgrade and yeah Demar de rozan is turning 35 soon but as I said he led the league in minutes played last year I mean he keeps playing and he just wants to win a freaking playoff series he hasn’t won a playoff series in a long time since he was a Toronto Raptor so he wants to get out there and and play and I and the same goes for their top guys they want to get better as well apparently dearen Fox met with demard de R rozan and tried to convince him to be happy with the sign in trade to get there and it worked I me that’s that’s the thing they have to go forward it does suck that they are in the Western Conference we should see these teams in the playoffs one through 16 and get rid of a couple Eastern Conference teams because this team at 46 and 36 uh despite injuries as I mentioned to Monk and herder I mean that’s a pretty good season and in the East they would have been laughing into into the postseason so it does kind of suck for them but yeah I think the Kings uh did very well uh in this one at least go for it and probably they’ve got a a couple more moves to go yeah moves weren’t well received when he went to Chicago and I said you’re crazy and then it worked perfectly for six months and then it turned out everybody was right that it’s hard to build a team around Demar de rozan and that the ceiling isn’t very high but you look at the Kings they had a chance to make it to the playoffs last year and they lost to a Pelicans team that was missing Zion Williamson and had a gimpy Brandon Ingram so things had to change does this Elevate them near the top of the Western Conference not a chance like this gives them a chance to I think compete for the fifth seed uh but everybody’s getting better in Sacramento they had 15 years when they didn’t make the playoffs so you can understand why they did this I don’t think it really is going to change their fate all that much but man Sacramento is going to play some incredible 130 to 127 games they will never be out of a game they will never win games completely by blowouts where you’re feeling totally comfortable and it’ll come down to the last shot and they got three guys who can make awesome last second shots because they take some incredibly tough ones box D rozan monk it doesn’t matter if you got a guy on them they’re getting the shot up and a lot of times it goes in yeah Sacramento Kings next season GNA be entertaining uh regardless of their final win loss record uh some other news just Chuck this in here uh LeBron James is taking a nearly $3 million discount to keep the Lakers under that dreaded second apron uh Lebron is signing a two-year $11.35 five million deal in instead of the two-year $104 million maximum he could have resigned for so task that keeps the Lakers just under that 88.9 million second apron which I mean it’s actually important if they want to make moves here and still want to try and trade guys and all that because once you hit that second apron it gets damn near impossible but uh any thoughts on LeBron he taking a pay cut yeah a tiny pay cut uh yeah there there was rumors that he would have reduced his salary by like 15 mil if they were going to be able to go get a a bigname player but listen I I love free agency time I’m not into the apron talk that much and the difference yeah the Lakers only limited to First apron restrictions which include not being able to acquire a play of via sign and trade not being able to use more than the taxpayer mid-level exception worth approximately 5.2 million not being allowed to use a pre-existing trade exception or taking back additional salary in a trade so it’s pretty restricted I mean this is a pay cut but basically you’re going through the season with these 15 guys unless you trade a large contract for a large contract so they wanted to go get somebody out there you whether it’s one of the guys who was dealt who were dealt to another team um whether it was Clay somebody they wanted somebody and yeah from from the second apron to the first apron ain’t that big a deal if he took a real pay cut then we we’d be talking about somebody being added to their team Trey what do you think uh Lebron said he was going to take a pay cut and I guess he did it does give them a little bit more flexibility but this has got to be a disappointing offseason for the Los Angeles Lakers because we heard at the trade deadline come draft night they’re gonna have three first round picks to trade they’re going to be going star hunting for a third Superstar to put next to LeBron and AD and instead you got two LeBron James’s on your team and Dalton connect that’s all that’s happened for the Lakers so far they’re going to have to I think what this is happening here LeBron keeping them underneath the second apron kind of just pushes the team building down the road a little bit gives them an opportunity to do something interesting uh as we get further into the to the into the summer and then at the trade deadline as well because the Lakers team as constituted didn’t improve enough to make a difference uh in the Western Conference you got an old rookie and you got got a 55th pick and that’s basically been the changes for the Lakers uh at this point but maybe some team decides they need to sell at the trade deadline the Lakers still have a couple of first round picks they can use and they can make trades a little bit more easily since they are beneath the second apron so uh I think good on LeBron to to give back that three million that his son of course is getting paid uh yeah that’s the part that’s the part I love still in the family man exactly right exactly right it’s uh it’s kind of just like given an allowance uh but it works at least Rob gets to cook a little bit more we’ll see if he actually does something here yeah he hasn’t come back from the grocery store I don’t think he’s chilling man we’ll see but yeah there’s this idea that the Lakers could salary dump a couple of their veteran minimum contracts maybe you have to attach second round picks to like get somebody to actually take those guys could create some roster spots and then could give you the flexibility he used that $5.2 million taxpayer mid-level exception I don’t know who you’d be getting with that like is Gary Trent Jr going to be going for that maybe Den witty definitely uh something more similar to that but that’s that’s when they have to open up the roster spots if they can even do that uh we had a bunch of other sort of deals just to Chuck them all at you uh miles Bridges agreeing to a three-year $75 million deal he’s returning to the Hornets Caleb Martin signing a four-year $32 million deal with a 76 Sixers he’s going to slot into that power forward slot uh the Warriors Got buddy hee guaranteed two years 21 million from the 76ers in a sign and trade uh the magic and France Vagner agreed to a huge rookie extension 224 million if he makes all NBA 269 million and then a bunch of other smaller transactions any uh that you want to talk about there Tas or surprised you from the last couple days yeah in a weird way with the Warriors losing clay but adding DeAnthony Melton Kyle Anderson and now buddy heeld it’s interesting I mean really they’re top two now in curry and green plus kuminga and the dream of Wiggins getting back to himself it makes it interesting um and these three contracts somewhat uh somewhat like if you if you go rose-colored glasses here you say maybe maybe this Warrior team so that part is interesting I think the Caleb one Caleb Martin with the Sixers is even more interesting the fact that I mean they are so heavy they need to add supporting guys and you know Trey brought him up that Caleb Martin is a Celtics killer uh so that’s all right I mean he plays he he yeah he literally is going to play along with embiid George Maxi heon U could finish games um so that’s the postseason lineup that you’re going to see against the Celtics so that part is they did as well as they possibly can it it feels like yeah try any of those or any ones that I miss smaller ones that you want to address yeah I think those are both good deals the ones that Tas hit on the Warriors like they’ve got some good role players around Steph Curry and they need Draymond to stay on the court because the record was much better when he was playing he knows how to find Curry offensively uh they’re in the mix for a playoff spot I I think getting uh the Splash Buddies United there uh I also think uh Caleb Martin nice for the 76ers they needed a power forward I think he’s more of a forward than a power kind of guy so they could probably still use some additional size but they’ve had a really nice uh summer the other one that’s interesting to me is France Vagner that is a ton of money for that guy and it really signifies that the Orlando Magic their rebuild period is over uh and now it’s the hard part where you actually got to start being a good team surprise season last year went to a game seven Paulo acquitted himself very well uh in the playoffs but now is the really challenging part of building back up a team the tear down is easy the come up is easy but when teams know that you’re good and when the team building starts to get a little bit harder because your players are coming off rookie contracts that’s when it gets really really tough because this like we’re saying huge deal for fron Vagner Paulo is due for another one coming up we know about the first a apron and the second apron so it makes teams just harder to put together and to keep together so it’s going to be incumbent on the magic brass to put the right guys around po and fr and they might be tricky to build around because you don’t have a lot of teams that have two guys that are 68 to 610 who handle the ball all the time for you and that don’t shoot it really well like everybody would love to have a three and D point guard that player doesn’t really exist a three and D Center there’s like three of them in the NBA and now the magic need those at both P positions we’ll see what they’re able to do in the coming future we’ll talk more about uh we’ll talk more about these transactions on tomorrow’s no dunks podcast Fred cat joining the show uh we’ll talk about the Knicks and what they did this offseason and some of these other deals that we talked about here today I’m sure we’ll get into the D Ro and going to the Kings with him as well but before we go because it is Sunday here Sunday morning uh we have our four finals for the Olympic qualifying tournaments they’re all happening today we’re going to find out the final four teams going to the Olympics it’s Greece Tas versus Croatia we got Brazil versus lvia we got Lithuania versus Puerto Rico and the baham versus Spain and I think if I have this correctly all four of those uh teams are some home games in their own countries I’m talking about Greece I’m talking about lvia Puerto Rico and Spain so we’ll see if they have the the home court advantage there but yeah Greece Croatia Tas you like your chances I like my chances a lot yeah they took care of Luca yesterday Greece uh eliminated him now to play Croatia yeah at home you got to have the advantage and I guess you know you just mentioned all the guys that just signed I wonder if Dario sarich who’s now a Denver Nuggets backup center slash forward is playing for Croatia against Greece uh you know I haven’t been following the Croatia games all that but the he is I think so too he feels like he’s like a older than D rozan feels like a 40-year old man but he’s only 30 um so him and the Nuggets is going to be uh pretty interesting this year that they got a backup uh big um but yeah Greece should take care of things laia is interesting because they don’t have porzingis um they have Davis Berton uh who was also just released and then he was asked about it hey you just got released from your team and you how do you feel about that and he said I don’t I don’t care what I care don’t care I care about this he cared about the the lat on the front um which was very interesting anybody can Burton if you want Burtons I guess he’s available yes shooter so yes the Lan laser so we’ll find out today uh who the final four teams uh will be in the Olympics I already have eight of them but uh wait those it’s fun to find those on TV it’s like impossible oh these you haven’t found these games on TV oh you need an illegal stream that’s you got crack stream oh yeah I’ve I’ve struggled in trying to find some of these I almost I gave up the other day I was like okay I can’t find I’m not paying for the uh the what’s that dumb thing called 1891 court side or something the dumbest name like streaming service of all time I hate it uh anyway we’ll find out it’ll probably it’ll probably be a lot of those home teams I mean I guess Croatia could upset Greece they are a good team um I think lvia will proa oh I guess Brazil’s not bad either Lithuania maybe takes care of Puerto Rico but alberado playing well and Spain will likely beat the Bahamas though they got talent too those are pretty good four finals so we we see let’s call it there thanks everybody for joining us for this emergency podcast to break down uh the Kings getting to Rosen let’s hear your thoughts are you like yeah this is good this keeps Sacramento sort of competitive there in the west or is this too much of a risk on the 35-year-old D Roan and his fit and lack of three-point shooting and maybe the defense what do you think what about the other teams and all the other signings back tomorrow with Fred cats hit the like button subscribe podcast listeners festar rating and review boys good to see you as always uh until next time clipper you heard it here first have a great time turn up love you guys awesome thanks for joining us and remember dear he liked to play a little defense in Chicago check these stats first year in Chicago he only took one charge that’s not that’s not good the the second and third season On Sun.’s No Dunks, the guys discuss DeMar DeRozan joining the Sacramento Kings in a sign-and-trade, the San Antonio Spurs landing both another veteran in Harrison Barnes and a future pick swap, and the Chicago Bulls continuing to lean into tanking. That, plus LeBron takes a nearly $3 million discount to keep the Lakers under the dreaded second apron, the Warriors getting Buddy Hield to replace Klay Thompson, Olympic Qualifying Tournament finals, and more.

  1. The Kings hit their ceiling with their present roster and they don't want to bottom out while Fox and Sabonis are still in their prime. They have little to work with so this move will likely be a holding position. I expect, just as you guys have mentioned, that there will be a Huerter trade down the line. They need to get some frontline size and physicality because their problem last year was not offense.

  2. If it was addressed I'm sorry but is monk and huerter responsible for 3pt shooting with this team thats stacking the paint would stop them

  3. I'll be in Vegas but am going to miss you guys as I'll be in gym watching the games (yes…the Lakers and Bronny…) Any chance you'll be making any other appearances? Or if you hear someone yelling "a-yo" or "good morning sweet world!" from across the gym or street or casino that'll be me. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Why are they talking about Barnes like he is some top tier defender they lost lol. Defense would be mostly the same Iโ€™d gatherโ€ฆ.

  5. JE I wish everyone said hello to each other the way you said hello to Tas' daughter, then we would have world peace.๐Ÿ™ Kidding not kidding.

  6. Rudy Gobert and mikal bridges cost 5 first round draft picks ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Demar cost 1 WAY IN THE FUTURE 1st round and second round AND HB.

Kings didn't give up 5 first round picks๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿซฃ THAT'S A LOT. The kings should always hold onto their own draft picks, if they can in any deal.
