LeBron James on Bronny’s ’emotional’ draft night, how much more he has to give & more | SportsCenter

we’re going have a chance to talk about some history yeah in the fall with the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA draft the Los Angeles Lakers select bronny James LeBron James and bronny James will not only be the first teammates to be fatherson duo in the league history the first time it’s ever happened period yeah this take me back to New York what was that moment like for you um it was very emotional it was very emotional to uh to hear uh I mean that’s that’s been his his dream for quite a while he said he wants to play in the NBA and you know and then he had an opportunity to talk to his agent Rich Paul and Rich asked him what what is his ultimate goal in this whole thing and he said I just want to hear my name called and for it to happen you know with us all being together and him being able to hear his name called an NBA draft is like a moment that we will never ever forget between the lines to some extent basketball’s going to take care of itself sure but outside of those lines he’s starting to have some of the same Arrow slung at him that you had when you were a teenager what’s it going to take for him to withstand that um I don’t know if people really understand bronnie he doesn’t care I actually cared a little bit when I came in I wanted people to like like me and some of the things that people were saying about me it kind of bothered me early on in my career I let it get to me bronnie doesn’t he doesn’t give a he doesn’t bronnie plays he works his tail off when he’s done he goes home and plays his video game he does not care about nobody he doesn’t even listen to that stuff he’s like the complete opposite of his dad his dad will say something yeah bronnie does not care like me personally when I was coming up I had no choice I literally had no choice I had to make it out like I had no choice I had to make it out for me my mom my family bronnie has all the choices in the world so it’s like a whole another people don’t understand how hard that is in the commitment for him to be coming out of heart surgery less than a year ago for him to be able to to be in the NBA this the kid is he’s he’s special but he doesn’t care he doesn’t it doesn’t bother we have breaking news just 6 days after drafting bronny James the Lakers have signed his father you signed a new contract with the Lakers it potentially could take you through 23 seasons in the NBA which pretty good number yeah that is good a great number do you think this could be the last deal you ever signed as an NBA player I mean it could be um not going to sit up here and say oh I don’t you know maybe not yeah it could be easily but um we’ll see what happens Rich Paul told me uh leading up to you signing that deal that you’d be willing to take a pay cut to sign an impact player but here we sit Klay Thompson with the Dallas Mavericks DeMar rosen with the Kings what do you think happens um it takes two to tangle I mean at the end of the day I think um you know our front office and our coaching staff they try to do the job that they wanted to do or try to get guys to come and it just it didn’t happen and that’s okay that’s part of the it’s part of the business since 20120 as the team has its ups and downs we’ve had some private conversations about just how much winning still matters to you you know you have all the accolades we talked about the stuff you’ve been able to earn through this game but you still want to win can you do it here with the Lakers between now and the end of your career can it happen again of course of course what gives you that confidence cuz we’ve done it before that’s it it’s over this historic 2020 NBA championship belongs to the Los Angeles Lakers the Lakers conquer the bubble and banner number 17 will soon hang in the Raptors we still have two guys who commit every single day and myself and AD we commit to Excellence and commit to winning we’re not that far off you know we were one year removed from the Western Conference F this past year didn’t go as well as we would like but we’re not that far off and there’s so many teams in the league you know so many great teams in the league and the Western Conference and Eastern Conference but we don’t see that we are that far off anyways [Music]

  1. Bronny does not have to care. He is financially set for life. He will never have to work. You provided that LeBron. As a father I salute you for that. But let's not pretend and lie that he earned a spot in the league or the contract….

  2. We just hate this man for nothing. I'm not his fan, but i respect him a lot as a human . Before he came to us, who was coming? Nobody , he came with AD and gave away our baby players who were badly drafted. What has those players become and the draft we gave out what has they become? I can sit here and say Dalton and Austin Reaves have been the best of all the players and draft we gave away.

  3. laker fans are the reason stars dont want to come to LA ur the most toxic fanbase on earth it aint lebron it aint kobe u all hated on em i watched it

  4. Naaa. Bron we need 3 more years. It’s starting to feel like a farewell and I’m not with it 😂. Way the game is evolving, I could see the him impacting the game into his late 40’s if we’re really being honest. 🐐

  5. Ken Griffey Sr AND Jr played a couple seasons together, this isnt the 1st time in sports history this has happened

  6. Lebron is doing a great job as Greatest Dad of The GOAT conversation. Everyone wants Bronny to crush it. We all do- we genuinely want Bronny to earn it

  7. Why would his dad Let him play If he just had a heart attack don’t you think anything involving physical activity might not be good for him? Obviously his pop didn’t think so I don’t see this season going well at all.

  8. A lot of ppl hate LeBron cause of his basketball persona. But as a Black man I salute that man. His struggle will never be understood or appreciated by privileged mfers but us that played ball and failed and now work but watch with a mode of knowing where ya came from 🫡

  9. People will always criticize you if you go 2-10 and suck. If you play well, fans will love you. The problem is when you suck and can't take criticism

  10. I want Bronny James to succeed and be better than his dad but remember, LeBron is a good actor too. LeBron is a faker, pretends to read books and flops.

  11. This guy is about to play as long as his jersey number lol He is definitely going for that 23 seasons

  12. They always say windhorst is tapped in with Bron, but I feel McMenamin is who they think windhorst is. 🧐🧐

  13. Gonna be a minute before LA gets another ring if they throw away draft picks like this. Also, NBA is a young mans game. Old fellas can't hang in the post season. But what do I know.
