Haywood Highsmith Offseason Media Availability: Highsmith Re-Signs With Miami | July 8, 2024

um I want sort of get your thoughts on this whole process was it harrowing was it nerve-racking um the way it ended up is it to your total satisfaction or sort of where did you see this headed and and where do you think this sort of wound up as far as how you think it’s settled out appreciate you R for the congratulations thank you very much um it’s been a it’s been a process you know this is my first time being like a real true free agent so um you know we just took it day by day and uh you know it was multiple calls multiple you know meetings talking about different things it’s been a process and um you know it’s like it’s been it’s new rules you know with the CBA and all that stuff so a lot of things was going on but uh you know it’s just been a process been up and down roller coaster but you know I think for what I the Contra I got down with the heat um you know we’re satisfied with it um you know we think we we still got more in the tank for sure so uh just going to keep pushing but it’s been a been a B of A Journey bit of a process but you know glad to be back how close was it to possibly going elsewhere and how much did you have to sort of weigh different situations you want all the tiar what as much as you’re boring um I mean it was you know I I talked to other teams obviously and um you know a few may had some you know offers and you know some didn’t have no offers they were just you know interested so could have went could have went you know kind of either way but you know I’m glad to be back with the Miami Heat and last one from me um with Caleb gone now obviously his role and your role you might have fill both of those roles this season what’s it like to sort of Step Up potentially into Caleb’s shoes and is that a role that you believe that you could comfortably slide over to and play the type of minutes and role that Caleb played yeah I mean I think me and Caleb are pretty much you know same type of player bring Energy play defense you know play off the the Stars bam Jimmy Tyler so um you know I can’t do everything Caleb does on myself end of the day you know obviously I’m working on a few things in the offseason to get my game better on offense defense you know get my body right stuff like that but um you know definitely can uh you know bring some of the things Caleb brought but also bring stuff bring some more stuff that I did as well so I’m going be myself not going to try to fill nobody’s shoes you know I know what type of player I am in this league you know I’m a Defender tough guy you know can make open shots you know make threes and a good shooter and um you know gonna play play the right way play hard and do whatever it takes to win thanks again thanks again welcome back yep appreciate it next we have Ethan scolnick five reasons go ahead hey Heywood congratulations um when you talk about specific things you want to add to your game we saw a little bit more um sort of a dribble drive game and and stuff at The Rim uh as the season progressed I know last year it was a focus uh to get the three-point shot you know when you got those open ones down what else do you think you can add to your game offensively to get on the court even more I appreciate that you said um yeah I mean just adding into the to the play off the dribble you know maybe coming off screens making plays being extra playmaker for our team you know and uh just being aggressive on offensive floor you know obviously I’m gonna get my corner threes Wing threes sometimes top of the top of the um key threes you know getting out transition pushing it making plays in the um in the open court so you know stuff like that just trying to just get better overall offensively you know I think hav’t reached my ceiling yet so just gonna keep pushing thanks no problem right up next West Goldberg locked on heat go ahead hey hey wood welcome back um you obviously part of longer playoff runs not quite a long playoff run last year but now that you’re back like what would you like to see as a team uh how would you like to see you guys kind of just get better and maybe make a longer playoff run again yeah I mean I think it just it starts from you know the first day of training camp you know we start getting together and just building those those habits and building champion ship winning you know winning details and stuff like that you know obviously the heat all about culture about winning so we just got to just you know stop talking about it line just be about it you know and set the tone we got a great captain and B we probably going to set the tone great vets um got a good group of young guys you know and um you know we just got to just put it together and uh you know stay uh build some chemistry you know stay connected and um you know just do whatever it takes to get these wins in the regular season and um you know make a push in the playoffs thank you no problem Cedric Brown heat.com go ahead H welcome back man happy to have you appreciate it all right um so you join a long list of uh undrafted players who have been able to you know get contracts like this in in the heat development program what what is being here done for your game specifically to get you to this point I was just with you Cedric say now um um what about ask a question again I’m sorry um what is the development program here that he done for your game specifically to to get you to this point of this next contract oh for sure I mean done a lot I mean starts with my body like you know I wasn’t like like fat but I was in the best of shape when I first got here and my body fat is gone down just uh a lot for sure so I’ve been in great shape my body has been um doing very well Gott stronger got more lean you know and just more athletic overall you know starts with the with the waight room and then on the court you know just turning me into the player they said they they know I could be come to be a player in this league you know obviously defense working on my jump shot um a lot of a lot of reps with uh the shooting coach ra Fedor a lot of shots a lot of extra with CB Karan Butler a lot of defensive stuff with Malik you know EG all them guys helping me out giving me confidence as well you know CB was an Allstar in this league you know a great player in this league so you know having a guy like that around me has been wonderful for me he sees he sees stuff in me I don’t see in myself so you know the Heat have just invested in me and I appre appreciate them and um you know they took a chance on a division two kid and I can’t be more grateful all right we’re going to bring back Ethan skull Nick go ahead hey would just one more um was there any uh desire for maybe a longer contract or did you like the flexibility that the deal you took offers um not really more desire um you know I feel like two years is is is a good enough cuz I feel like you know I have more left in the tank after these two years so you know be 2029 so you know two years is is is definitely solid for me
