Zach Edey’s DOUBLE-DOUBLE not enough, as Grizzlies FALL in Overtime | CBS Sports

Grizz Jazz summer league Zack Ed debut we go to the Finish Well almost 10 seconds to go Memphis down one Scotti Pippen Jr Off the Mark zachi to have that wideopen putback attempt would have given Memphis the lead but oh no rims the same as back at school they certainly are what a chance there for Ed after Utah would make their free throw on one end8 ticks left off the Miss intentional at that it’s Edy with Redemption tips it back in forces OT however the Jazz would go on to win via Target score in overtime it certainly was a moving Target and for more we say hello to CBS Sports NBA analyst John Gonzalez John a wild OT but let’s let’s leave it where it was let’s get into Ed’s night 14 points 15 rebounds that sort of production at this level so much talk about what’s going to translate what is not what was your impression of this for small sample size at Summer League yeah we have to take all of this with the grain OFA cuz it is summer league but a double double in four blocks is a really nice start for Zack yei and as you mentioned he hit the shot that sent it sent it to overtime unfortunately for the rest of us we won’t talk about summer league overtime but he looked good I mean he clogs the lane he protects the rim he set really solid screens the question for him Joe is can he move can he run the floor can he get out on the break when the Grizz are in transition and they want to push it with John Morant off of a Miss that’s going to be something that remains to be seen because you know summer league talent that he’s playing against is one thing it’s another thing to be playing against fullon professionals and the starters of another team and and they’re he’s going to have to play against Topline starters Joe because they really need the the Grizz obviously needed a center last year to pair with jiren Jackson Jr it’s going to be Zack EDI so if he can move even a little bit that would be great for the Grizzlies spent some Premier capital on the Grizz or excuse me there spent by the Grizz on Edy it was a name that could have been linked to your team in the Sixers many thought why not some Center depth there as well their pick 16th overall Jared McCain he showed up and showed out in his first sample size 15 points six of 15 from the field so not the cleanest night shooting especially from three but really showed up in all aspects of the box score what did you like from what he did and where do you see him fitting into this rotation for Philly yeah I mean as you mentioned his shot from Deep didn’t fall tonight 0 for six right but at in college at Duke 41% from three and that’s something that people expect him to be able to do I thought that it was good that he got a shot off that’s something that was a little bit questionable because he is undersized at 6’2 he also had some really crafty moves he had a nice little spin move at one point he threw a lob to fellow rookie ADM Bona uh he was you know also being undersized I liked when he got downhill and he finished through contact these are all things that you want to see from Jared McCain as he develops as a rookie again especially as somebody who’s only 6’2 and where do I see him in the rotation probably end of the bench but they’re going to need his guard play behind Maxi and Eric Gordon if you’re playing him 15 to 20 minutes per game and he can be a contributor and hit down hit some knockdown catch and shoot threes that would be huge for that

  1. Pippen Jr could've just gone off the backboard for an alley oop instead of throwing up a wild layup attempt that Edey needed to hang longer to in the air to put back. tough putback, and even tougher tip in to force ot

  2. Edey was going against the Jazz starting center, Walker Kessler. He scored on a couple transition plays. Got 4 blocks. So much for his weakness'.

  3. He moved very well last night and even drop some weight 🤦🏾‍♂️🥴he’s going to be a BIG STEAL!
