welcome into another episode of the PMX Sons podcast I’m Lindsay that’s Flex that’s espo shout out to Leo Hector and step for being the first three Chatters in the chat today good to see all of you beautiful faces already active and ready to go in the chat how are you guys doing good shout out to jam the man I think that’s a new person I haven’t seen Jam the man I don’t seen Jam the man uh on the bottom I think it was the bean bag I think that’s that’s somebody that or bean bag four Jose haven’t seen Jose welcome to the party let’s have some fun today hit that like button year and year to absolutely all right guys we got a couple kind of updates more so uh reminders of what’s going on behind the scenes from our guy Gerald boray he tweeted out a couple of free agency updates the suns are still working on resigning Josh aogi a few teams want him but Phoenix is confident they’ll be able to keep him Kyle Lowry is still in play and the two sides are still talking but he may wind up back in Philly if low does go elsewhere the suns are more than comfortable with Monte Morris filling those backup point guard minutes since he was one of their top three Targets this off season now I know this is the same information we’ve been sharing for the last week and some change but it’s just a good reminder that they’re still working behind the scenes like they’re still crunching the numbers having the conversations negotiating as much as they can at least because there’s not a lot of wiggle room from the money side of things when it comes to the Suns but this is what’s going on behind the scenes so fingers crossed hopefully we will get some updates sooner rather than later yeah been a weird free agency in general with these new rules there’s still guys like tus Jones out there that haven’t found a home it feels like it’s either big money or vet minimum deals that we’ve really seen so far so I think it’s taking a little longer for some of these things to shake out maybe see it at Summer League where agents and teams and players are all kind of in person with some conversations happening I think Lowry is an interesting name uh we’ve talked about that but I also want to bring up uh our friend John gambadoro over at Arizona Sports gambo on Twitter killed the Walker kastler dream the reaper reaped and uh but it makes sense I mean I know the report came out today that Utah is just is looking for a first round pick uh the belief is it may be more than that you know in terms of a couple and the Suns don’t sound like they won a part with the 2031 pick for for Walker Kessler so everybody on Twitter asking for that as of right now uh ain’t gonna happen and true tactive yes we do blame CJ McCollum for whatever the hell these apron rules are totally yeah I mean we got 17 teams that are hard CA there’s only 30 teams in the NBA and of those 17 teams that are harda I’m not even mentioning the Phoenix Suns the Milwaukee Bucks the Minnesota Timberwolves they’re not harda they’re just in the second apron so when you got 30 teams in the league and about 21 to 22 can’t do a damn thing this is how free agency shakes out you’re either going back to the team that’s got your rights or give you money or you’re kind of stuck wondering what do I do so this is the new CBA and it’s going to be a slow crawl and it’s GNA just make for a little bit quieter I think of off seasons for the time being anyway I don’t think you’ll see as big um splashy type things but a lot of people are asking about Josh AI I know it’s kind of mixed emotions there but from everything we’ve been hearing behind the scenes they do very much value Josh aogi it has always been a we intend on bringing him back we love him here in Phoenix he loves being in Phoenix so if your team know on Josh aogi returning um I don’t think the sun share the same sentiment just because yeah I mean how many people that are in the in available as free agents are going to be to come in and do what Joshi does plus the continuity plus the chemistry being familiar like you got to really understand what’s going on here there aren’t too many guys that bring what Josh brings uh if Josh were a actual free agent that never played with us a day uh I think people would be interested in Josh Ki so the fact that he had a couple years where people talk about the shooting and they’re down on them there’s more to his game than that I feel like if he chooses them over some of these other teams that are Ed uh there must be a plan in place that they’ve talked about on how coach Bud wants to use him right because you’re not going to come back to a place if it’s hey we want you to be the 15th man you’re not going to see time but yeah sure we’ll give you that’s slightly above that why right so I imagine they have a plan uh in mind on how they’d want to use Josh aogi more effectively can I share share a theory I have yeah uh it’s based on our chat I think nacho is actually Bradley Beal just trying to to see if they can provoke us into saying something uh about about them uh so our you have to tell us the rules yeah norc yeah know but like every day with the they should cut Bradley Beal and and move on we appreciate you in the chat that’s just my theory about what’s going on uh St [ __ ] said bring Terry Johnson home all caps yay n I love Terry Johnson but it ain’t happening nope uh some guy named Justin sent us one that says hit that like button if you’re happy to see you Banks gone we’re gonna have about 400 likes here in no time just hit that like button one way or the other regardless of how you’re feeling if you’re here with us on YouTube more likes than viewers it be all right so the reason why we were late again today to start the live show is because we were talking with Phoenix Sun’s new Monte Morris his first introduction to Phoenix media and of course uh we had to ask him off the top about his free agency process and why he decided to choose the sons here’s what he had to say um you know uh I got good agents around me um I’m with priority Sports now um and you know those guys was just letting me know the opportunities that I had out there um I don’t want to say you know the teams and things like that but you it was good communication but I think Phoenix was the perfect spot for me as far as opportunity um and just a chance to you know compete with those with a great team great coach and uh get a chance to win the championship so he’s feeling pretty good about his choices coming in here chance to win a championship we love to hear that that it still feels that from a players perspective that that’s where the suns are at because certain media members have the Suns already counted out entirely I guarantee that Monte Morris had more lucrative offers I guarantee he had other opportunities to play the man was in Washington though right and you gotta have an appreciation after being through that and then going through an injury year like he did last year wanting to be a place where you’ve got an opportunity to win I don’t care what any national media member saying I don’t care what anybody on Twitter saying when we have Devin Booker Bradley Beal Kevin Durant Grayson Allen who was one of the top three-point Shooters in the league you have an opportunity to win everybody pounded the damn drum that you needed a point guard you needed a guy that can can uh you know protect the ball pass it do the things that a a true point guard does they got that in Monte Morris a 29y old a guy with something to prove still and and I think he’s right they’ve got an opportunity here and he put himself in a situation where he’s going to get quality minutes shout out to Monty man priy Sports good job because let me tell you something this is a guy that looked at free agency you said he was in Washington he knows what it’s like to be in a place where you can’t win and you can’t up your value in a place like that right they don’t pay people that lose 60 games a year so he’s got a chance to up his value he’s sitting here he’s like what do those Suns need be a backup point guard I happen to be a pretty good backup point guard what do they need three-point shooting oh I I happen to shoot 40% for my career uh they need to guy to take care of the ball they were B turnover yeah I’m a four to one assisted turnover ratio guy probably one of the best guys in the league at that yeah oh [ __ ] what did Grayson Allen do he played six months and got 70 million yeah priority Sports let’s do that like that’s that I mean some of sometimes it’s just very simplistic man you gota he put himself in a very good position to put himself in a position next year to probably get a big contract uh by coming to Phoenix and might might get you know some some success out of it in the win col so honcho said um if we have Monte Morris then why do we need Lowry yeah exactly I’m that dude just a little bit above you said let’s get Lowry just in CA case he’s great Insurance you never know with injuries or if things just don’t pan out the way that on paper they should pan out and if you have if you feel like replacing whoever you are going to either move on whoever you’re going to move on from for that 15th spot on the roster with a veteran like Kyle Lowry that’s not a bad thing because let’s be honest and we’ll talk about this later in the show but if you were to bring in a Kyle Lowry or somebody else you’re most likely walking away from David Rody is David Rody GNA really see a lot of minutes with this squad this year likely pretty limited what did the Suns deal with last year injuries lack of leadership was a complaint Kyle Lowry is a could potentially be a back stop when it comes to injuries like you’re saying and he’s a leader yeah been there done that knows what to do as Championship experience if you’re talking about the last roster spot which we will it makes sense by the way uh Sean I will not stop it I am I’m willing to go as far as to say right here as we sit here I think the suns are going to win 55 uh to 60 regular season games and be right in the mix uh for the Western Conference and I I want to hear the same energy that everybody’s bringing right now about this team uh when that happens because you know it’s easy to just give into that I refuse to do that I look at this I see a team that’s made the adjustments they needed to believe that coach but is a guy that can change things and I believe Monte Morris is the exact kind of backup point guard that they needed I got to jump in on this got to jump in on this you got my back hell yeah I got your back we got the book ones on together dog you know how we do listen it is the Suns won 49 games this year there was 20 games decided by five or less if they win just five of those they got the best recck in the west yeah like what the hell are we talking about like why can’t the Suns win 55 games I’m d down with esport I think the suns are going to at the by the time we get to the trade deadline I think the Phoenix Suns are going to be one or two in the Western Conference I think they gonna surprise everybody with their continuity coach bud is going to help us get those five extra wins that we couldn’t get this year just out of coaching and then on the KY lry thing let me just remind people if you like Monty Morris and you love Monty Morris there’s a reason why Monty got a minimum he was hurt last year so why not get a guy like Kyle Lowry to play insurance for that right Monty Morris did have an injury last year that’s why he didn’t have the year that he thought he was going to have and so it makes perfect sense to have a veteran like Kyle Lowry that knows how to win games and can fill in on a spot you can do a hell of a lot worse than Kyle Lowry as a 15th guy trust me it ain’t my job to be optimistic that’s my job I ain’t paid by the Phoenix Suns I’ve been there I’ve done that I put lipstick on a pig for an ownership group and for a team I’m not doing that here this is what I believe watching back knowing these guys knowing what coach but has done in his history and knowing the kind of guy that Monte Morris is and what we hear from him as we go through the rest of these clips this guy is a big part of why they’re gonna be able to be better this year than they were last yeah so Flex you did mention that Monte had to deal with injuries last season but here’s what he had to say about that and being healthy going into this season uh I think it be it’ll be amazing I think it’s right on time um especially you know with me not having a year I wanted to despite you know injury and those things just having that hunger that hunger back and just that drive to just show the league you know that I’m still that same player um just the injuries last year was you know a fluke but I think it was a lesson in Disguise for me to have this opportunity and uh be around a great group of guys and a great group of or organization I definitely think he has that whole Grayson Allen in the back of his mind um kind of blueprint if you will right like you deal with injuries but he feels and and he trusts himself that that was a fluke because of the injuries he’s ready to bounce back like we saw not necessarily that Grayson Allen bounced back but he launched himself forward by being able to play alongside the big three and showcase what he’s capable of doing with really good basketball players around him what’s the ma the magic thing that he said In that clip what was blessing in disguise right he’s just telling you he’s like damn man like I feel like I can come here and this whole thing was a blessing because me being hurt probably shook up my market a little bit but look what happened I end up on a team where I absolutely fit like a glove and everything I do well they need and so I could come in here and quadruple my value if I just go out there and help them win so yeah I mean again shout out to Dan priority Sports good job like that’s how you that’s how you do things with with your basketball free agents put them in spots to succeed don’t just to go chase the bag Everything That Glitters ain’t go this guy’s going to end up in a better spot yeah and before the injuries he was viewed as one of the best backup point guards in the NBA still young kids got a lot to a lot to give call I can call him a kid I’m 11 years older than him but uh you know look he you’re right they put him in a in a position where he can come in do what he does best and and be able to do it with a team that has high high caliber Talent around it yeah absolutely he was also asked in his mind what are the biggest responsibilities as a point guard on the squad um just coming to work every day and um pushing myself um to a limit especially in the summer time to get in the best shape possible I can possibly be in so we can hit the ground running start a training camp but also just being a general just being a point guard you know getting guys to spots and getting the ball to them where they need it to be productive I think um that’s one of my biggest traits as far as knowing how to adapt despite who I’m playing with um or four guys out there but I think it’s big for me to know their games know their spots and also know the type of person they is so I can you know um speak to them I can’t speak to somebody the same way I can speak to another guy so that’s all ties in what I could bring to the table and I’m excited to do so that’s the money clip yeah that’s the money clip let me tell you something as a as a person that play point guard okay he he said a couple things in there that blew my mind which makes me really excited about Monty he talked about being a point guard learning his teammates knowing where they want the ball and also knowing about his teammates off the court because that leads to communication I can’t talk to Lindsay the same way I talk to esort I can’t talk to ASB say way I talked to Lindley that that’s on that’s real on the basketball court man and so this is a guy that one is has a high IQ his assist to turnover ratio says that he’s mature and he understands the the intricacies and a little dynamics that make a really good point guard hearing him say that was like music to my ears well yeah because chemistry was such a huge conversation last year he knows and understands that understanding who the player is off the court the person not the player helps you understand who the player is right like you can’t can’t really have one without the other especially when you’re in a point guard role which is essentially a leadership role on this team backup or not you’re still in a leadership role that’s so valuable floor floor General mindset right think about that second unit especially say you split it up and KD and book are on the same kind of minutes pattern and you got Bradley Beal out there and now you got Monte Morris trying to put him in the right positions to score rather than Bradley Beal having to worry about being the point of attack and being the the point guard in that particular lineup uh well he’s also doing it at times with the with Durant and book now he gets a chance to cook a little bit they didn’t have that that portion offensively last year where you would have that that main guy setting up all that fell on be which which is difficult to try to be the guy that can score on a second unit and be the guy it’s the main distributor I think this is is going to open up things for him going to open up things for multiple guys on that second unit you can get Royce O’Neal some good looks and I know he talks about a couple of guys he’s played with in the past including Beal here I think this sets up the second unit much nicer than it was last year Club Elite bets in the chat said low turnovers with four exclamation points remember that was our problem last season don’t forget well of course we had to talk with Monte Morris about that and of course it started with Gerald asking him about the nickname Count of Monte asisto uh I I haven’t even seen that but um it’s good to know but uh yeah I mean my mom would always be on me about taking care of the basketball she would say you know don’t let them steal my purse from me that’s so I kind of treat the ball like my mama purse I try to just keep everything you know intact with that but you know I’m going out there just to play basketball you know I’ve been doing this since I was like four years old so um just loving the game and it kind of just comes second nature to me as far as trying to protect the basketball I’m not trying to not make turnovers you know I’m just just try to play Within Myself and U you know try to play chess not Checkers I I love a guy that listens to Mom right yeah Mom out there giving the good basketball advice saying don’t let them take my purse and he hasn’t he protects the basketball and and to to the chat’s point that was one of the major issues last year this dude is going to go out there play with himself not turn over the ball set up his teammates that’s exactly what you wanted on this team and there’ll be moments where he plays with Booker KD and Beal as well and now you got a guy that can set each of them up to to score at their best like this is the kind of thing that you missed last year and you got a guy at a vet minimum that can do it at a very high level and it’s still 29 we’re not talking about a 38 year old everybody’s bitching and moaning about Kyle Lowry some people wanted CP3 back this is a 29y old he’s got still got something in the tank like I I like everything about it can can hey I got I got man listen I love him I love him I I mean I you know it’s one of those things where you could just see the guy and you’re like oh he’s gonna fit right in first of all shout out standup Grand Rapids Michigan don’t let him take Mama’s purse that’s that’s something i’ I’ve heard that before I’ve heard that before okay um I love it it’s real and it’s and it’s it’s a real thing like I don’t got smacked in my damn head a couple times for letting people take Mama’s purse like you don’t do it you go out there as a point go but he said something more interesting he said I’m not going out there not trying to get turnover right it’s not a focal point he’s just playing the right way he’s being smart there you go ly there’s a difference I play with guys that have low turnover numbers but it’s because they are super safe super cautious right now you you want to you want you want the numbers to line up this guy’s 29 years old he’s played seven years in the NBA he has a 0.8 turnover percentage for his career last year 0.2 the year before 0.3 the year before that 0.02 like this this is not fake this is a guy that’s been in the league has been doing it from day one again 4 to1 assist to turnover ratio and it’s not a fluke and he actually goes out there and plays the game and shoots the ball well and is not a guy that’s going out there putting up low turnover numbers because he’s being cautious he’s just making the right damn plays so you got to love this type of basketball player we got to ask book if people are trying to steal Mama’s purse out out there in Grand Rapids I’m sure they did and everywhere in Michigan uh in the chat uh I I can’t read the name but last uh it’s uh back down here said last yeah said last last year uh they signed a bunch of 25 year olds and how did that work out okay they weren’t proven guys right Monte Morris has proved something in this league they were taking a bunch of lottery tickets hoping you hit on one of them this year they’ve gone the opposite route going with guys with track records who have shown it already in the NBA and Mason plumbley and Monte Morris that’s why I’m more confident in it also it’s okay to be cautious about jumping like diving right in right I get that especially after the way last season went but also just give them the benefit of the doubt at least let them have a month to show you what they’re what they’re capable of here in Phoenix with this squad before we fully count them out and start calling them washed okay before we throw the bathtub at them give them a month to at least play in the actual season uh yeah can’t I mean can we yeah you know can we totally you got this people in to check keep talking about KY Lowry and again in the chat answer this question who do y’all want like I’m I’m just say I’m just curious like I’m if it ain’t Kyle lry who do you want all you got realistic that’s realistic realistic that’s the thing they’re not going to toss in a 31 first round pick for a guy who’s just a little bit better maybe than some of these guys they can get on that men’s because that’s a waste you can’t do signing trades tus Jones like you can’t again I said this last week you can’t have Nordstrom taste when you got a dollar store budget correct I I’m sorry that’s just the reality of it but I I think boot of the skitso brings the right uh perspective here he says I still owe my mom thousands of dollars for when I let them steal her purse okay yeah I get it why your mama carrying thousands of dollars where they’re going to steal questions you don’t need another Theo uh one person did bring up Monte Morris’s defense he was asked about that today and whether he feels like it’s an underrated or slept on aspect of his game here’s what he said yeah I mean I feel like you know coming into a situation like I did in Minnesota they were already number one in the league and defense and I just didn’t want to be a weak link so I I had come straight in and you know adapt real quick but it was fun out there getting stops I think this year was probably my best defensive uh year um despite coming in but I think uh me putting on some muscle and stuff like that it definitely you know made defense a little more easier so I plan to be even better you know here with the sons and and you know set the tone when my when my number is called so he may not be otherworldly but he’s going to put in the effort I love the I didn’t want to be embarrassed as part of the number one team listen whatever whatever drives you it work yeah and and he was good I mean he did a really good job Monty plays defense like he had a really good defensive year to his standards this year he was coming off injury but it ain’t like you gonna look at Monty Morris film and be like look at this guy getting destroyed on defense he’s never been that um so yeah he’s gonna go in and and do his do his thing point of attack defense he took on that challenge this year he did fine um and again what he brings on the other end super exceeds uh anything he might lack defensively but he played he played Point attack on the best defensive team in the NBA and he let him do it so guess what that means he can play some defense I take him on the Phoenix Suns I that’s that’s just it I’m not overly concerned when it comes not either the defense if he does what he can offensively that’s going to be more than enough to be a valuable piece of this and you’ve got you know a handful of guys on that second unit they’re more defensive Focus that you can bring in I’m I’m not overly concerned about it I just want to say I again the chat I love y’all but this just too much with the KY we’ll get into more of that when we talk about the final roster spot yeah let let him uh let him be that it’s fine we we don’t have to worry about it yet because Kyle L is technically not here well it is okay it’s okay it’s okay last thing from Monte Morris um he was asked about his relationship with Mason Plumley and Bradley Beal and he had some very nice things to say I think uh you know me and Mason we had a great run Endeavor thre him a lot of lot of lives um and he knows how to to get me open you know and I feel like we communicate with our eyes I feel like we played together three years and then it was a high level three years you know he would hit me on a lot of back door cuts and things like that but he’s a better person you know also than a than a player and um I’m excited to get back out there with him and then also Brad U we only had one year in DC but um I think we definitely grew um especially when we were able to both be able be out there and play um I think think um this sky is a limit I feel like we already built a little chemistry in DC so he knows my game I’m very familiar with his so it should be a smooth transition and you’ll remember from yesterday’s show Mason plumbley spoke very highly of Monte Morris as well so it seems like those guys they’re already Pals this gonna work out well for the two of them this is the underrated part of this signing because what outside of wanting a guy that could protect the ball and play point guard did you want in that second unit a rim rolling big that you could you could actually hit for an alleyoop and be trustworthy with their hands down there down low as plumbley has done it with Monte Morris that’s another factor of this whole thing that you got to take into equation when you’re rebuilding your bench and you got two guys that already have chemistry right you’re not starting from scratch you you already a step ahead of the game because they’ve already got that connection exactly he already got chemistry with Brad He’s already got chemistry with Mason the big point in that clip the word he uses is eye contact right nonverbal these are things it’s hard to teach on the basketball court but he already got it I’m I I I I would love to be a fly in the wall at the 5G performance center when they’re practicing and you see Monty look at Mason would just just look at him and and throw a l like you can’t teach this stuff so that’s an underrated part of why you target Monty Morris as a top three Target on their free agency list because they’re like okay we got Mason we already got Brad this guy fits in fits like a glove oh and by the way he’s got chemistry and continuity two major pieces on his team already so yeah F fantastic move man I I love this move look you get an experience that every day Lindsay and I have that where it’s just little glance and only when we’re sitting opposite of each other though see the eye contact is easier I mean it’s all world too I’m sitting right in the middle of it I see it firsthand like boom oh my goodness I don’t know but really excited about Monte Morris and hearing him talk today listen we know Mason plumbley yesterday was a little bit quieter a little shorter with his answers there’s nothing wrong with that but um I don’t know he just got really good vibes from from Monte Morris great Vibes apparently people didn’t like my sarcasm yesterday when it came to to Mason I got some flak for that so sarcasm free today with h with Mon’s answers I thought he did I give him I give him A+ uh on the answers a little quieter there’s nothing wrong with that nothing wrong with but again when we’re talking about somebody who plays point guard that’s right who is deemed a leader that’s right you want somebody who’s a little bit more open to communication like you don’t necessarily need that from Mason plumbley but you do need that from Monte Morris because he’s supposed to be your general out there so it’s different Vibes and there’s nothing wrong with that like as when you’re talking about point guard prospects and you in general just a point guard um and I I do this a lot with basketball players or pro athletes in general how they talk and how they handle pressures is usually something makes me sway their way uh the way they handle these things but like if you’re a point guard and you can speak like that and articulate yourself like that you’re you already have the the upper hand like communication’s key in that position right it has to be like I’ve I’ve played with some point guards guys that are fantastic but could not talk could not communicate and it and and it hurt them tremendously so this is a guy that clearly you can see knows how to do that so I’ve got an update I need to share this coming to Vegas with me too these are going to be my club and shoes so speaking of Vegas we’ll go ahead and look at the summer Suns schedule so things for the summer Suns tip off this Saturday July 13th with their first Summer League game 8 P.M against the Golden State Warriors then they have an afternoon game on Tuesday against Indiana that starts at 1 p.m. Wednesday they play at 5:00 p.m. against OKC and Friday at 1 p.m. against Milwaukee and then we’re kind of TBD for that uh Saturday Sunday rounding it out this is a exciting summer league for the first time in a long time surprisingly enough considering summer league was like our NBA finals for a hot minute there it was uh that it’s actually going to be really exciting to watch the summer Suns play because not only just the three guys we have in the squad we get a first look at a new assistant coach coming in and then there are some other guys on the squad who will be likely filling out the g-league roster as well so these are guys we should probably start to familiarize ourselves with um which what are you guys feeling how you how you doing about summer league I know you’re gonna be out there I’m really excited ly and and I actually think this team I was watching the California classic I’ve been watching you know the games that are going on now I kind of like where the suns are sitting they got a nice little roster that can go out there and make some noise I mean this this could get interesting we could be looking at that fifth game and like oh boy the this team could could could make a little summer run so we haven’t said that in a while I don’t want to be talking about the sumers Suns making a run but I am because I think they got a good enough team look anything that gives us more basketball in the summer good bjoy look that that Golden State team’s got a vaunted roster it’s going to be tough in game one I don’t know who the hell is playing for any of these other teams outside of their uh their draft picks but the thing that this is about is seeing getting a first Glimpse at some of these uh young guys that you know that the sons have drafted and some of these guys that may wind up on that g-league roster that could eventually have an impact I like watching it for that there’s always some ridiculous storyline that comes out of this some kid you didn’t expect or some you know I remember there was one guy nicknamed Jorts yeah it was that I mean that’s the kind of things you get in summer league but the best part is we’ll be out there it’s like a basketball convention we’re going to get talk to some of the biggest names in basketball media related some front office people we’ll get you the Insight in it and we’ll get a glimpse at what some of the future of this sun yes so just a little scheduling update for you guys uh we will have shows Friday Saturday Sunday Monday and Tuesday from Las Vegas all about the summer Suns and like esos said talking with a bunch of people because it becomes just like a hub of NBA Minds uh in Las Vegas over the first weekend of Summer League so be sure to keep an eye out for that of course the best way to stay in the know is to subscribe and turn on notifications on YouTube and of course follow us on social at phnx Suns so we finally got word that Vince larza is going to be the head coach of the summer Suns this year he is uh he joined the coach buds Squad as an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns just a little backstory on him right he started his NBA coaching career in the player development side of things under coach bud when he was in Atlanta after that he continued as a Player Development coach in uh Minnesota with the Timberwolves before he became an assistant in Utah and then he was also an assistant in Milwaukee and Coach Bud’s final season so he’s been around coach Bud quite often obviously has respect and affinity for him being that he started his career with him and then was willing to join him later on down the road as well two times stay with the Bucks and now with the Suns so this will be fun to get to see our first glance as who’s kind of behind the scenes helping coach butd out yeah I’m intrigued by him you know when you look at the kind of the names he’s worked with Dennis shuder and Kent basemore in Atlanta when they were young guys you know and Zack LaVine tus Jones Carl Anthony towns Andrew Wiggins were all you know young guys and that he worked with in Minnesota in his time all guys that kind of fulfilled their potential uh along the way in one way or another uh and and developed with him as one of the Player Development coaches this is a guy that’s gon to have a big impact on Ryan Dunn and alsoo we Garo and Jaylen Bridges if he’s GNA going to be a part of this team’s future and so getting that leg up in summer league starting to work with these guys I think is important and you see some guys that get opportunities down the road to be head coaches in this league uh get that chance in summer league to start and so I I’ll be interested to see how he approaches it what the system looks like and if it’s close to what we think coach Bud’s going to run or if they’re just running some simplistic things just to get these guys uh the opportunity to get out there there and run in these in these games so there’s some Intrigue I know oh it’s an assistant coach running summer league thing but there’s some questions and it does provide you a little bit of context behind the scenes and it might be something that just like from a media side of things you really kind of can get a glimpse into but for example Willie Green coached the summer Suns often and it just it’s kind of like a it’s a ride of Passage almost it sets these coaches up to it just tells you how much they value them I guess the simplest way of putting it what the coaching staff values from these guys who are on their their roster I’m pretty sure Nate borran W up was a summer league coach W up as an Indiana head coach granted wasn’t the greatest St you know Becky Hammond was for the Spurs like this is a way that people get their their start can’t wait for Jared Dudley to get his head coaching position in the NBA soon sooner rather than later now that he has checked off his summer league yeah I’m not I mean listen it makes a lot of sense Player Development wise you got players that need development Ryan dun Oso right you got Bridges you got uh buo yeah so I mean play development wise you know who he worked with but this is this is two-sided it’s Player Development and his system I mean you’re you’re absolutely unequivocally going to get some sneak peek into butd system because this guy has been buz’s right-hand guy most of the way uh going back to Atlanta so um yeah you you’re going to see a little system and you’re going to you’re going to see Ryan Dunn taking three-point shots from spots on the floor where they anticipate him doing it with the big team and that’s what we’re all keeping an eye out for right shooting right that’s right that’s right so I I like this is perfect pick again uh it’s the blend of Both Worlds a guy that knows how to develop talent and a guy that knows how to uh incorporate a system that’s going to be uh ran by coach bud so I I love this so obviously the biggest uh we’re going to be keeping an eye out the most on Ryan dun Oso uaro and Jaylen Bridges what are you kind of looking for in this summer league process with those three guys yeah particularly oh go ahead I was just say also gadoro I’m gonna be looking at ball handling yeah very intrigued uh you know because he did play that kind of Point big in at morquette and in his college career I’m interested to see what what that playmaking ability is and does it translate uh you know to against the elite elite in terms of of young guys in summer league and could it be potentially something they leverage this year yeah I mean listen I think the obvious thing with Ryan is uh the three-point shots where he’s getting those three-point shots from Lind and then also how he attacks the basket and if he can get to the free throw line what it looks like right those are the two things with Ryan you want to see him shoot some some free throws and get people out of that 50% thing and you want to see where the three-point shots are coming from with Oso it’s real simple I want to see him bring the ball up I want to see him initiate offense I want to see him in the the dhos um be able to be that offensive Hub because I think that’s what he’s he’s really good at and then that you know jayen Bridges catch and shoot guy a guy that just can get it catch it Let It Go I want to see him continue to do that because if you can do that I mean there’s never there’s never too much not there’s never not a space for a guy like that you know if you can catch and shoot at the NBA level they’ll find some for you to play so if he can continue to do that like he did at a college level watch out for him yeah I’m I’m intrigued to see if he can be a surprise this team I think they got great value uh in a two-way guy there and what will he be able to do he’s probably the guy that I think is gonna look the best in summer league he could because I think he probably feels like he’s got the most approve out of this group shooting and and defense translates pretty easily in the summer league where Ryan Dunn’s going to be working on that three-point shot Oso gadoro trying to figure out what his fit is when you just when you just pull it works in summer league usually that’s you know that’s the guys that drop 25 30 points he also may play more games because you may see uodo and and dun not play all the games if they feel like they’ve seen enough enough of those two guys where Bridges may get more of an opportunity yeah um okay so before we dive into some more guys on this summer Sun’s roster Flex I know you are heading out to Vegas Friday morning just want to put okay my heart says start Oso igodo but that’s not where I’m gonna go I’m GNA go start Ryan dun roster Oso igara roster Jaylen Bridges and I’m sorry big body David Rody uh I’m gonna trade you I mean listen so when it comes to this roster so there’s quite a few players on the roster outside of the three that we talked about earlier that were uh acquired we will around the draft this season David Rody is one of them boo boo is another one Tyrie Samuel is another one uh we can go ahead and put the roster up here real quick so you guys can get an idea of who all you’ll be seeing I know Todd in the chat has been pointing out Isaiah Wong is somebody that he is going to be looking at Tyson Walker is there as well but here’s the thing when it comes to big body David Rody this I think I think he’s got the most opportunity one and also the biggest expectation the biggest load on his shoulders in in the sense of he is playing for that spot on this roster right so right now David Rody is on this Suns team he has a spot on the roster he is though likely if the Kyle Lowry was brought in or anybody else they want to pick up on a vet minimum on The Chopping Block let’s be honest okay yeah but beyond just trying to maintain or or retain his roster spot with the Suns it also could help him as far as down the line if the suns are looking to move on from him then maybe they approach him and they say listen this is your opportunity to show the rest of the League what you can what you can do y and we already know we’re planning on moving on from you one way or the other this is your chance to prove to another team to take a shot with you to give you an opportunity to win another spot on another team yeah now did it reminds me a lot of uh PJ Tucker early on would go to Summer League uh and you know before he was that guy that that everybody kind of believed in I mean people forget but he was let’s be frank some random guy from uh that people barely remembered from Texas that played in Germany right Puerto Rico too lines like so he had something to prove and I think David Rody’s looking at it and going this is an opportunity uh to prove myself in a way I give him a lot of credit though because there’s a lot on the line and it takes some guts to do it because it could go the other way too if you don’t go out there and perform that makes your roster spot really precarious for this team so I I give him credit okay so but this is also his what second year third third third so he’s got two years under his belt upcoming upcoming with the third right so here’s the thing this is why uh with for what you just said I believe there’s something to uh there’s a reason why and Josh and kogi still being talked about uh Kyle lry still being talked about I think there could be a little bit of a delay with a lot of this stuff because I truly believe that that’s why Rody’s going I think Rody of everybody on that roster he’s an NBA guy he actually played in the NBA this year for the Phoenix Suns play with the big team spot right now a full roster spot right so if I’m in summer league I’m saying hey David Rody you’re the only Pro here dog like you’re the only one that got NBA experence you better go out ball the hell out that’s one so I think it’s the second thing is like Lindsay was saying you know when you’re in this spot that he’s in he’s doing two things he’s saying I want to show the Phoenix Sons that I deserve to have a a roster spot and stay here don’t give up on me yet don’t give up on me yet I’m G come out here and I’m G show y’all why I shouldn’t give up on me and at the very least I’m gonna make an impression to the other thir 2019s I’m gonna go out there and say well hey by the way here’s the tape here’s the film here’s what I did and if they do decide that they want to move on for me with his you know that was my audition who wants me maybe you can get a second round pick out of him if he shows out if not you know you got so this is to me this is a win-win variety right play well you get to stay or you you you get uh potential audition for other team so it’s smart that he’s going good job I I feel like there’s a danger to it though I don’t think you can if you go out and you don’t perform as the guy that’s played in the NBA as the threeyear vet and you get pushed around by some second round pick you’re putting yourself in a purious situation there but that’s my word of the day no but what if you don’t but what if he decides I don’t want to go what position is he in he’s probably getting cut just as bad right that yeah kind stuck between a rock and a hard place here basically it’s just you got to bet on you you have to go you have to do like you have to show out yeah you know what I mean like he has no options because again if the sons truly value somebody else that they want to bring in he is likely the one getting the boot y so it’s your opportunity exists to either show another team why they should bring you onto their squad or you just get cut and you don’t have anything else to show for it right like you’re kind of s a rock hard place that’s a tough spot if you get cut and you don’t have a summer league now you’re you’re banking on a couple minutes that you played in the season 14 to be like do I get do I want day yeah but if you play poorly in the summer league and you get cut then you’re in trouble then you’ve probably that but you’re a basketball player right at that point you probably made a oneway ticket over to Europe oh oh last thing I want to say on that that is real that is real people think that this Vegas summer league is about the 30 NBA teams oh there’s European Scouts is over they’re all over the place G League squads too yes the g-league and Euro league team so there’s always some willing to say hey man I got some I got a spot for you so there’s it’s a big audition um all right so a couple other guys we do know that the Suns have already handed out two of their two-way contracts one to Jaylen Bridges and one to Colin Gillespie uh Colin will not be at Summer League this year and I’ve seen a lot of people ask about it and I think it’s probably because he feels even though he’s on a two-way I think he’s kind of done his time as far as the summer league situation goes and I think that’s probably part of the reason why he was not playing yeah as a part of the summer SS we talked about agents we talked about priority sports right I keep saying them but here’s the thing if I’m Gillespie’s agent yeah you’re not playing in Summer League this year you’ve been there you’ve done that yeah you played in the G league and average over eight games damn near triple double like all you could do in summer league is hurt your value you already got the two-way all you can do in summer league is get hurt or hurt your value you average damn near triple double in G League that’s enough I love you both go ahead talk to me but why is it so different for him him and David Rody right like to me I get I get it like if they if they give you the option not to play and say two ways say fine I I I get that uh because of the injuries and stuff and maybe it’s just as simple as a son said David you’re playing and if you don’t you definitely don’t have a roster SP that’s what what it is what I think well what it’s also different because like Gillespie already has the two-way right like he already knows where he sits as far as like the NBA goes you are a two-way guy who is working to reach that NBA roster level David Rody is currently at an NBA roster level and he needs to prove he can keep it right so I don’t know it’s just it’s basically same a little bit different but couldn’t couldn’t jepetto there or whatever Gillespie go and uh play in summer league and get David Rody spot like I don’t know I don’t know I really don’t think so no I think the sun’s already straight up said we’re willing to offer you a two-way and that’s it yeah you’re two-way and I think the other difference is is one guy’s a two-way and the otherwise guys making almost three million a year so you gotta prove if if you worth these three million I’m about to pay you dog I mean let’s be fair R I got the worst cramp Ronnie might be a one way at this point we’ll find out this weekend find out anyway uh a couple other guys that we’ll keep an eye out on boooy Tyrie Samuel both signed exhibit 10 contracts with the sun which essentially during the off season uh NBA teams can carry more guys on their roster yeah and then they have to limit it down um once the regular season starts but these are guys who will participate in like uh training camp and you know different practices and stuff to kind of try and earn another spot so these are guys you could look to to potentially fill out that final two-way spot for the Suns or be on their g-league team how you guys feeling about these two I so badly want booooy to make one of the rosters whether it’s the Suns as a two-way or the valley Suns because I’m getting to Jersey and it’s gonna say my boo on it all right uh this kid I I like him man he he was tough noosed at uh at Northwestern two-time uh all big 10 first team member played so damn well led the uh led the league and ranked eighth nationally in shooting from three-point range dude shot almost 44% from De he can shoot 4 he that’s insane like this again shooting travels right if you can shoot you’re gonna have a spot in here and and I love it you know and he took this team it’s it’s not just that he wanton it Northwestern he took the the wild cats to backto back NCA tournaments for the first time in their history that’s has been around a hell of a long time I I’m intrigued by by seeing what he can do granted he’s probably if he’s a member of this franchise is probably Valley Sons right but he’s a kid that’s got pedigree that you take a chance on and you see could be one of those guys that you know goes the G League route and then surprises a year or two from now in in the NBA I I like watching these kind of names in summer league uh because they’re playing for what amounts to the their career right and and I you want to see kids that succeed at that level when they’re trying you also have a guy like Tyreek Samuels so he’s 6 fo1 forward out of seen Hall in Florida last year averaged 13 points per game and a team leading 7.4 rebounds started all 36 games at Florida so this one’s a guy to keep an eye on too you also have a guy you’re going to be watching Ty Walker Tyson Walker Tyson Walker’s I love him out of Michigan State everybody talking about oh that’s just a mad HPM no no no this boy can hoop watch him so Walker can hoop uh Samuel seen hall pirat right around my way shout out to my boy my brother head coach Shaheen Holloway who coached him he a big boy he can play and then yeah boo boo I love me some boo boo man I know they call him boo I say boo boo boo boo buoy I’m G get the boo boo shirt you make te yeah all three very interesting I like Tyson Walker you know you watch his highlights he’s a guy that really knows how to setup team good with the lob really good three-point shooter but tough noos Defender michan State what hard-nosed Defender I mean let’s not forget North Eastern he was Nor Eastern kid before he transferred you give them some love that’s true get but look I I again another another name I’m intrigued by not from the NBA level but a guy that could wind up being a valley son and work his way into something bigger I’m interested to see him in summer league and we know point guard of the future giant question mark for this franchise uh so one of these guys at least could uh could maybe work their way and do a backup roll down down the lane Enzo he hit the nail on the head said Bull bll and boo boo du we didn’t know we needed yo that’s yo that’s going to happen make it happen we need to make it happen Boo and boo boo I love it but then you you need to get a guy that’s
