[LakersLegacyPod] The Best FA Big Man Left on the Market for the Lakers: Omer Yurtseven. 7’ w/ a 7’1 wingspan. • Long, Rebounds well, blocks shots, has touch & skill, can Shoot a bit, has nice Passing Instincts- Would only cost VetMin. Outside of GTJ, THIS is the guy LA needs to pounce on.

Thoughts on Yurtseven as a back up C for AD? I think he could be a good back up big on a vet min if we can clear a roster spot. I think he is worth clearing a roster spot for since he addresses one big need of a legit back up C.

He is actually decent and has real size, unlike Hayes and Wood. I don’t mind Hayes but don’t think he is big enough to be a true back up C. Wood is clearly a PF and not a C so we still desperately need a legit back up C.

Even if you don’t think he is worth clearing a roster spot for, clearing spots is still good in general. It provides greater flexibility to replace some trash players like Reddish, Wood and Hayes who don’t greatly solve any real needs for us.

    “Rebounds well, blocks shots”…

This is why you have to do the homework and don’t trust everything you read:

Yurtseven has avg 4.6 RPG and 0.4 BLK in 3 NBA seasons.

We’re a first apron team, so we have to match dollar for dollar on trades. Clearing roster spots “for flexibility” is actually more harmful than helpful. If there’s going to be any trade with one/some of dlo rui or Vincent, the vet mins we have are key for salary matching without having to unnecessarily gut a guy like Vando.

Dec 15, we’re open to aggregate multiple vet mins That’s ~$8M expiring that can be used.

Agree Omer would be helpful, but he’s not SO much better than Hayes/wood (if at all) to handcuff ourselves. We shouldn’t forego the flexibility these vet mins provide to first apron teams by rushing to swap flawed backups.

If Hayes or Wood didn’t sign with the Lakers last year and was a free agent this year, majority of Lakers would make post about signing them and begging RP to sign one of them. Let that sink in.

He ain’t better than Hayes. What’s the point?
    Plus injury prone.

I think I remember he torched us in SL once

He doesn’t move the needle. Not better than Hayes, gets hurt a lot, hasn’t developed past being a fringe rotation player.

Lol. This would be another flyer like Hayes, but worse. Omer has been in the league for three years and cut by two teams. He has physical gifts but it rarely translates to on-court production.

A good big man. Thats not on our radar come on now y’all should know better.

  9. The Lakers won’t be making any moves this preseason due to the new apron rules. My take, they might attempt a mid-season trade or look to the buyout market. They seem to be relying on JJ to fix their issues and help them succeed. I don’t agree, our roster has a lot of holes, mainly at the center. Playing AD at C and no solid backup at C could be a waste and increase the chances of injury.

Bro we were hyping up Jaxson Hayes just like this guy last summer. 😂

Some people in this fan base are so desperate right now. Just craving any kind of signing or trade.

These FA rumors remind me of how hyped we were to land Robert Upshaw💀

Was a double-double beast in Fantasy Ball during Bam’s injury/COVID protocol days during the 2021-2022 season… that’s about it tho lol. Just kidding, i’m sure he can probably be better than Hayes but Lakers don’t need to replace a project with another project right now.

If we could get rid of Hayes this guy would definitely be a better option. Better than nothing

I think we are rolling with C Wood and Hayes. Now I’m not trying to be delusional here, but I do think that some of the issues with those guys can be improved. I think both have pluses and minuses, but offer two distinctly different styles of big men and can enable us to play different styles in different situations. Wood is a floor spreading big and Hayes is more physical and active. One thing I hated was that Ham rarely played Davis with Hayes and I think in certain situations it works. Ham was so bad at player utilization and I hope JJ can be better.

Who the hell is this rando? Let’s not start grasping at straws here.

He needs work but maybe. He made it into the league when over half the Miami Heat had covid or injuries (Kyle Guy also made a stint here), showed promise when they were winning games with those guys that got called up. Been bouncing around the league since then, probably really great to practice against.

Not sure if he would move the needle but maybe having such a big audience and playing with Bron would inspire him.

  18. We need a backup C that can play a solid 10-12 minutes of D against the Joke.

I think that would free up AD to play 30 minutes of intense basketball over the full season.

If we end up trading one of Hayes and Woods. He could be a nice pick up. Otherwise, I don’t think a team need 3 Vet min level center. Thats just not a good squad management

  20. Advanced-Intention30

Hayes played well towards the end of the season and hopefully he bulked up some. Wood was inconsistent and I think Ham broke his confidence putting him on a the bench and letting him rot there before he was injured. Considering whats out there I’m going to put my faith in JJ, Hayes and Wood and hope JJ can unleash their talents. Lakers don’t need to make a trade or waste the vet min unless it’s for a Wendell Carter type player.
