Josh Green Interview: Dallas Mavericks Trade, Joining Charlotte Hornets, LaMelo Ball, Olympics, More

all right we’ve got uh some local media here who are just going to ask you a few questions um media if you could please just state your name and your outlet um and use the raise hand function and we’ll get started with Sam pearley hi Josh this is Sam perly with hornets.com um welcome to the team just overall how did you find out about the the trade from Dallas to Charlotte and what is what was your reaction and just overall excitement to be joining uh the yeah um so you know I’ve uh I’m in Abu Dhabi right now uh but I was in Australia for the last probably like two or three weeks um so I found out uh during Australian time so was I was uh sleeping at night it was about 3 in the morning uh you know I got the call from my uh agents and uh no I mean I’m just super excited I mean I think uh it’s uh I’m very excited to be a part of you know something that you know seems like a lot of fun you know I’ve been seeing a lot of the videos on Instagram and social medias and uh seems like a fun team and you know amazing you know ownership in Rick and Gabe and um you know the building sign really cool so I’m super uh super happy to be a part of it and have a new opportunity thank you and welcome again thank you we’ll go to Nicholas Carboni hey Josh Nick Carboni from NBC um welcome to Charlotte I know you’re in Abu Dhabi now um but uh what do you think you can bring to the Hornets with what you know about them and what you know about their new coach Charles Lee yeah um you know I think um you know just going off what I said before you know it’s you know such a young team and you know they play at a fast pace and I think um I’m able to thrive in transition and you know being able to pick up the ball and playing defense and you know just continue to grow my game um you know I’m still you know a young guy and uh I think it’s been fun to be around you know older guys and Dallas be a to learn from them um and take that to Charlotte and you know just come in with a winning mindset and yeah be ready to go Rod Boone hey Josh just wondering um obviously lamelo ball you know about him what do you feel you can kind of bring to this team along with him in the back court to kind of figure out the next level for you guys as as a tandem potentially yeah uh I mean me and Melo came in in the same draft class and uh you know he’s a very talented player you know he gets all his teammates involved great process so uh you know I think just going back to you know transition wise and being able to push the pace um you know I think we have the you know ability to be a very fast team and um it’s enjoyable to play play that way so you know I’m looking forward to it uh I enjoy picking up full CT and you know just trying to be physical on the defensive end and um you know lock into my uh assignments and then second thing is your finals run with Dallas this past year how do you feel that experience will help you and what can you bring that to the Hornets to kind of help them again that next level a little bit here yeah um it was it was an amazing experience you know uh you know especially going against you know coach um but uh I think I was able to learn a lot um you know just from you know pressure-wise and also just preparation wise going into the final series uh you know I felt like I was able to grow a lot as a player um in certain situations um and also you know it’s uh once you you know be in there you know definitely have an itch to be back there so um you know I’m very you know highly motivated and um yeah just excited Sam Farber hey Josh welcome to Charlotte Sam Farber from Hornets radio uh Curious what kind of role you foresee for yourself here joining the Hornets you obviously progressed quite a bit in Dallas from your rookie year to having a major role for a team that made the finals but looking at the situation and Charlotte what do you see as your future with this team um I mean I think you know just coming in and just you know working as hard as I can uh you know like I said before I still think I’m you know a pretty young guy so you know I feel like in Dallas I was able to do you know certain stuff and you know be very committed to that role and uh you know I think I’m able to continue to develop and be able to show you know different areas of my game and uh you know just let the game come to me and um you know continue to put in as much work as I can and and yeah go a walker hey Josh welcome and just real quick followup uh Have you communicated with Charles Lee or Jeff Peterson about what your anticipated role is going to be yeah I mean so both they they’ve been amazing you know with communication wise and we’ve been in you know Constant Contact um I think for now you know the big thing that you know they’ve you know huge focuses you know focusing on the Australian team for now um and you know then being able to get into a deeper you know relationship and being a to talk about that at at a time off to the uh you know the Olympics um so yeah I mean but they’ve been amazing communication wise and it’s it’s uh makes me feel you know very comfortable go ahead Richie hey Josh this is Richie of the buzzbeat podcast uh Jeff Peterson and Charles Lee been targeting guys with high energy guys that have a desire to get better especially on the defensive side of the Court why do you think those traits are so important and then also where does that energy show up and that work ethic show up in your game the most yeah uh you know I I think it’s you know very important you know just from a winning you know aspect you know there’s so many talented players in in the NBA um and I think it’s you know being able to find a difference in in stuff that can affect games and uh you know not only you know does benefit yourself but also you know benefits the team um and I I think that’s you know shown with you know recent Champions and and how they play the game so I feel like energy is like a big part of the game and you know I’m always more than happy to bring energy um from the defensive end and you know just it can be anything you know being you know physical and you know finding the open man and you know I feel like I’m playing my best when I’m able to get my other teammates involved and uh it just honestly it makes the game uh a lot of fun and just as a quick followup both Joe Engles and Dela vova has played for Charles Lee in the past have they had any conversation with you as you guys are training for the Olympics yeah Joe uh you know Joe’s not a man of many worlds um but he’s definitely you know had his uh you know he he loved coach Le in Milwaukee and he thought he was a you know an amazing coach so he’s he’s very happy that I’ll be able to play under him go ahead Mike sarte hey Josh Mike sarte Spectrum news1 welcome to to the Charlotte Hornets uh I know you you mentioned you’re in Abu Dhabi and you’re getting ready for the Olympics have you given any thought to perhaps crossing paths with Team USA in Paris uh yeah I mean we we we play uh we play Team USA on Monday actually in Abu Dhabi um so it would be a good challenge for the boys and and the thoughts of of playing in Olympics because you you mentioned you’re a young guy you’re 22 23 you know you still got several years to or several Olympics ahead of you to play for for your for your native land yeah I mean I think going into this one you know I was lucky enough to be able to go to the Lost Olympics during Co um but obviously you know I was a younger guy and you know be able to learn from older guys like Joe and Patty and um it’s fun it’s always fun being a to play with these these guys and um it’s it’s very enjoyable Jason Brown hey Josh thank you so much for joining us my name is Jason Brown also with spectrum news1 and Charlotte Mike’s Co colleague and thank you again for joining us halfway around the world um you’ve had experience obviously with the NBA you mentioned your role with Dallas and what that was what is your foreseeable role with Team Australia and do you can you sort of like expand upon what you do for them and maybe how that grow and expand in the NBA with your new team here in Charlotte uh yeah uh I mean I think um you know it’s um you know go go like off the you know the being a coming into the Australian system at a young age you know I was uh you know first just like you know learning the system and playing against all the guys you know Joe Patty and and guys like that so you know I was able to you know learn a lot and I think over years you know my roles being able to you know gradually change and you know become bigger and you know I think you know this year has been uh it’s been a lot of fun you know being able to come more off ball screens and you know dribble handoffs and uh you know being a to create it um you know but at the end of the day you know I’m always gonna you know I love playing defense I love picking out full court and uh you know just bringing energy to the team and trying to you know create players Jeremy gron hey Josh welcome to uh Charlotte Jeremy granon for ESP and Charlotte I just wanted to ask you you said you’ve played with a lot of veterans coming up and now you’re kind of joining a younger team in the Hornets what have you learned with playing veterans with veterans and how can kind of that translate to uh you kind of being a vet on this team with the younger guys uh I just I think just you know being out to you know be there for the younger guys you know I think coming in the league at such a young age you know I learned that it’s a it’s a big adjustment you know not only basketball but you know also off the court um and I think being out have guys you know who were there for me in in certain areas and certain situations was uh probably the most beneficial part of you know just growing up as a boss who play in the NBA so um you know I’m always you know open to being able to help younger guys out um it feels weird saying that because I I do still feel like um but uh it’s it’s it’s great and you know I think uh you know Grant Williams is probably doing an amazing job of that in Charlotte now is uh you know he’s definitely a great leader all right guys we got time for two more let’s go to James plow right and then Christo salus hey Josh James PL from Hornets onsi um you obviously PJ Washington was in Charlotte before being in Dallas and you got ex teammate Seth Curry Grant who had there last season have they reached out to you have you spoken to them at all and and what they told you about Charlotte yeah um you know I spoke U I spoke to you know Grant was actually probably one of the first people to call me um and you know he’s super excited um and he you know said said is a great culture and you know super fun to be a part of um and he said you know he’s been having the time of his life you know he’s super happy and um no I’m I mean I’m I’m really looking forward to it and you know looking forward to you know seeing Grant again and um uh yeah he’s they’ve said nothing but uh positive things thank you the last one of Christ hey Josh CHR portal G hope you’re doing well i’ would like to ask you that the the desire of the team is to make something big with a young core how this expectation and the desire fits with your expectation in Charlotte and also would like Australian national team in the Olympics I I didn’t get the second part sorry about the Australian team the second part is about the comment about the group stage of your national team with Spain Canada and gree um yeah I mean I think I mean I think being being a young team you know it’s you know a lot of benefits you know I think at the end of the day you know you know we’re you know hard hard-hitting team you know we uh you know be able to play you know physical be able to get the ball up and down and transition and you know teams you know that’s not really teams don’t love you know playing super fast and I think that’s something that you know we’re really going to be out to have and uh you know playing with younger guys you know just makes it you know fun you know you know chemistry wise and um you know I really do think you know this team can very special so I’m I’m really looking forward to being a part of it um and just winning I I really I really enjoy winning so I’ll do whatever I can do on you know on my side to do that um and then the Australian team you know obviously yeah we it’s a very tough pool um but you know I think as far as that goes you know preparation for us is you know just making sure you know we’re playing the brand of basketball that you know we play uh you know I feel like we have kind of a different way of playing compared to other you know International Teams and whatnot and um you know I feel like our chemistry is very high so um obviously very it’s very tough pool but you know I really do think that we have a team that can be able to make it far in this Olympics and be able to uh medal all right thank you everyone Thanks Josh thank you very much guys
