What’s Next & Who’s Next for the Charlotte Hornets, Taj Gibson Signed, Miles Bridges Returns

what’s up and welcome to the Sam Dracula Channel my name is Sam Dracula I’m a Charlotte Hornets fan the offseason rolls on the Hornets are still making moves and we still have some Rost of space left so what’s next for the Charlotte Hornets well let’s talk about it really what’s next for the Hornets is Summer League that kicks off Vegas summer league kicks off or tips off tonight um and we’ll see Brandon Miller and tajon Salon in action how much and how long I don’t know Charles Lee is not coaching the summer league the Vegas summer league anymore so we’ll see how that plays out but musty TV if you’re a Hornets fan I don’t know if I’ll be streaming any of the Summer League games mainly because college football 25 comes out next week and it’s terrible timing been waiting a long time for that video game to come out I think I want to you know what I mean I devote some time to that while catching summer league when I can so H hope you understand in this video I’m going to talk about the remaining roster space the Hornets have and the moves that led up to this and where we kind of see some opportunity to fill out things uh fill out the roster this summer as I’m recording this the Taj Gibson news is only like an hour or so old so that’s pretty new I’m going to talk about Taj and his addition to the team we’re going to talk trades and waves so that’s Devonte Graham that’s Davis Berton that’s povy and mgaw we’re going to talk about miles Bridges returning and uh looking ahead to Summer League like I mentioned before we’re going to start with Taj Gibson and then go back to last week or so and then bring you up back to real time if that makes sense but Taj Gibson has signed or agreed to a one-year $3.3 million deal with the Charlotte Hornets GM Jeff Peterson and Coach Charles Lee bring on Gibson 39 years old to Mentor in a young locker room I love it Taj Gibson is a fresh 39y old man and uh I don’t anticipate him getting a ton of minutes for the Hornets so if you have concerns about like oh here we go again like like a like Steve Clifford flashback or something like that of a veteran taking young guy minutes that’s not going to happen it’s just not going to I mean if you look at his minutes played the last several years right let’s going back to 20 or let’s go to 2021 right 18 minutes a game 9.8 minutes a game 10 minutes a game 10 minutes a game 9.8 minutes a game like he’s not he’s not going to crush the play time the development of Salon or Mark Williams if Taj is used as a center like you’re you’re you’re everything’s going to be fine there I promise but things like this are important because Taj Gibson knows what it takes to have long in the NBA right which a lot of these guys could learn from they Gibson could also teach these guys how to practice and compete right Gibson isn’t like a like doesn’t have a bunch of playoff experience but he’s been in the playoffs before he’s been in big games before and a lot of these guys haven’t so having a dude like Gibson around is a big deal and I think it’s a really Savvy move by the front office to add another like real adult into the situation I’m going to get to this the green yellow red in a second but we’re looking at lamelo Reggie Jackson vosam meic and KJ Simpson as your point guards right Josh Green Trey man Nick Smith Jr at the two Brandon Miller Cody Martin leaky black as your three options right I mean you know Brandon could play two Cody Martin could play to you know what I mean just putting the him them there just for the sake of it right um miles Bridges Grant Williams to Johnson line at your fours and then Mark Williams Nick Richards Taj Gibson as your five options now this here the green yellow red I feel I’m going to go through this in real time with you guys because I want to get an idea on how like where the help really is how far away this team really is from competing because when you ask yourself yeah you can see the potential but how many how many of these guys are real NBA players right now that could compete or fit into or be a part of a big time rotation at least an eight-man rotation on a good team like either a starter or one of the first three guys off the bench on a playoff team like let’s pretend Indiana for instance like like lamelo Josh Green Brandon Miller and Miles Bridges all them all all four of them I think could either start or be in a eight top eight rotation Reggie Jackson I’m putting him in the mix because he did it with Denver just most recently putting Grant Williams in the mix because we’ve seen it with Boston and I think I think those are the only guarantees as as of right now this is not a potential list this is a right now list so I can’t put Mark Williams in a green I’mma put him in yellow I’m put he I’m putting him in yellow I’m putting Trey man and Cody Martin in yellow I think Cody on his best day could fit into an eight-man rotation on a good team but how often are we seeing those best days these days right Trey man is still a young player just depends on the team like because he wasn’t playing for OKC like him and meic are probably perfect example of this because we’ve seen it most recently they weren’t playing much for OKC especially TR man me got some decent run over there but when Mark the health issues and we don’t know what kind of player is really again he hasn’t played 82 games yet it’s all he’s all potential at this stage and then honestly all these other guys they’re Reds right now the Reds right now these guys are not getting into an eight-man rotation on a good team I’m sorry but Nick isn’t Nick is more of a nine10 man um Nick Smith Jr is still a project I think he’ll get there eventually leaky black I think he could be a decent role player but I think nine10 man on on a on a bench rotation of a good team it’s his Destiny right maybe a Corner three guy eventually salon’s a child still right he’s still 18 years old he’s not he’s not anywhere near that Tod Gibson’s 40 years old the full spectrum of guys right here and KJ Simpson he’s on a two-way contract that’s not the expectation of him anyway but I I like KJ Simpson So doing this this exercise is for a few things just to give you my viewpoint on the quality of this roster where the biggest needs are biggest question marks are and I think it also highlights the need for another big and that’s why they signed Tosh Gibson as an emergency player like if Mark Williams is healthy fine like that’s the best case scenario if he’s healthy and is good we don’t know that yet man we don’t know like people want to put Mark Williams into this young Court I don’t know how you can do that like I know you want to do it I I want that to be the case but he doesn’t deserve it yet he just can’t you can’t be in that conversation until you’ve played a full season in the NBA and he hasn’t done that yet man the fact that they were able to bring Bridges back a guy who they believe in and also maintain enough cat flexibility still bring in guys on the mid level speaks to how Savvy this organization has been this summer right and so when you look at potential Wings right if it’s not Seth Curry um guys that could contribute on the wing with some NBA experience right this is the kind of the list when you look at small forwards available right we’ been there done that with Gordon Hayward right Doug mman jedy Osman Reggie Bullock Jay Crowder uh Jordan W like that’s just kind of the Zone we’re talking here here like O’Shea brassette uh Marcus moris senior when you just want to add some toughness I’m here for that but let me know in the comments who do you want to see the Hornets go after to fill that final spot right um I was hoping um we’ll talk about McGaw in a bit but like the way McGaw is balling out man the summer league I wouldn’t have hated if he they brought him back on a two-way but we know he’s off to Portland so salute to him I don’t see any rush to to fill that final spot either final spots because you got got summer league coming up who knows maybe someone one really solidifies their spot on the on the roster in the future and can earn that final two-way spot or even a full-time roster spot like that flexibility that that carrot dangling out there for these young guys makes a lot of sense okay now let’s go back to last week okay I’m going go through this quickly so the Hornets traded for and cut Devonte Graham uh Grand Opening Grand closing Davis Berton they they cut him loose um freeing up a lot of cap space and you know they don’t have to pay him 16 million or whatever number was poku sent out of here mcgaw’s uh cut but also retained for summer league which I love by the way love that from him uh love that energy you don’t see that I don’t know like I don’t know if any other teams have been doing that but to cut a guy and have a guy ST stick around and play for that another deal I love it like JT Thor is not on the roster right now like I think that speaks to who mwan is as a competitor I like that from him and I I wish him the best of luck in Portland it seems like this front office is operating with a plan and moving deliberately like there’s I don’t see any a doesn’t seem like anything’s an accident or just happen stance it seems like they’re maybe seeing opportunity and season it and making the most of it I.E like does Josh Green trade like acquiring him for like nothing and uh uh Reggie Jackson for instance like those deals just getting players and picks coming here without giving really anything up like things like that you’re like you all you can do is salute it and then moving on to M Bridges a guy who I’m not happy he returning I’ll be honest with you like sorry I’m not but he’s back for for how long who knows the Hornets were open to assign and trade over the summer that’s a little trickier cuz the other team has to have cap space and cap space gone quickly right maybe they’ll or maybe they’re open to aign then trade like similarly to to PJ Washington right if if the season’s not going well and there’s there’s a it’s a sellers Market who knows but for the next three years we can just assume that bridg is going to be on the team until we hear something different we don’t know how the 75 million is broken up over the three years if it’s evenly distributed or front loaded or back loaded spot track has the estimate here as 23 25 and 27 as a split that’s a bit of an L the backloaded contracts are a bit of an L I would much prefer if it was more front loaded because that gives you more flexibility on the back end a backloaded deal isn’t ideal but when you look at it you know the ne the following year the 27 28 season that’s when Brandon Miller’s extension would kick in right that’s when Josh Green’s extension would kick in if Grant Williams is still around you know his deal is up that summer so that this year the 27 28 year a year remember where the Hornets have three first round draft picks a lot of a lot of guys will have to be paid the bill the rent is due in 2027 for real California classic champions in my book raise the banner right now uh we got summer league Vegas summer league starting tonight tjon Salon Brandon Miller in action I don’t know again I don’t know how much we’re going to see of them or how long they’re going to play or how often they’re going to play but seeing salon in the NBA type environment here for that because those granny Clips out of France are always tricky and I know the front office saw him in person but not many people had opportunity to do that so it’ll be the first opportunity for us fans to see him operate in a in a legit NBA setting so I’m here for that uh I’m I’m excited looking forward to that I didn’t mention this at the top of the video but we found out our draw results for the NBA cup the Emirates NBA cup I’m excited I’m excited I don’t are you excited I am Charlotte’s in a group of Brooklyn New York Orlando and Philly now if you’re any one of these teams you were gassed having Brooklyn and Charlotte in your group is crazy the the range in this group is crazy I think the Hornets I’m I’mma save my official season prediction as to like later closer to the summer but we’re not gonna be bad as the Nets but we’re not gonna be good as these teams like there’s a big gap between the Nets and the Knicks especially this is jokes this group is jokes like any one of these teams could be the second seed I think Boston is the first seed again but all these guys are going to be in the mix and we get them we get them in our group awesome awesome awesome no breaks anywhere so how you feeling about the off season I think the front office is doing a like at worst case B+ a minus like type operation of the salary cap and asset management and just puzzle piecing whatever analogy you want to put on it I think the front office ownership and whomever like they’re doing the most right now um I there’s room for improvement obviously because we don’t know what’s going to happen with that final spot if there’s another deal to be made but largely really positive stuff from the front office and and from Jeff Peterson and crew and I’m I’m grateful like I have nothing to complain about there’s some things I would do differently but I’m not going to say didn’t complain like we got what we got and you get you get what you get and you don’t get upset right so I’ll be back probably after summer league at least I might pop on the stream but again college football 25 is coming out man so that’s goingon to take up a lot of my time I’m G watch all the Summer League games but it may not be on stream all right I may be running Dynasty mode with uh with with akan or something like that y’all so I’ll be busy but I’m looking forward to watching Summer League I’m looking forward to it so let me know who do you want the Hornets to fill out the roster with what what position what player what deals do you see in the Hornet making any trades I don’t know I don’t think so but who knows man this this team has been quick to pull the trigger on something with something uh an opportunity to present itself they’ve been quick to jump on it which this is cool which is cool as a as a hornet fan you like to see your your your team doing stuff that’s going to do it for this video I appreciate y’all thank you for 1. Sam, of what's left Hornets should pickup Jordan Nwora only 25 fits age group. GM Jeff Get it Done!!!😎💪🏾☝🏾

  2. Savvy summer so far from new bosses. They seem to want to give that young core a (fourth? fifth?) chance to finally rally up by just hiring glue guys and role players. I don't expect results will improve greatly yet, but I respect the patience.

Now to fire the entire medical staff 😅
