What Will We Overreact To From Suns Summer League Game 1?
[Music] welcome into the phnx sun show live here from Vegas the Circa Resort and Cino we’re actually in their Sportsbook today coming to you live and this may be the worst place to do a show for somebody with so much ADHD as I have because I swear there’s like 40 screens showing anything and anything that you could want watch in sports I’m M well we got Flex we got Gerald we got Saul and a lot to talk about gentlemen as uh summer league commenced yesterday Suns play today 8:00 pm game you can catch that on ESPN 2 uh we’ll be there live but uh the big news of Summer League so far a local product Don Holmes uh tours Achilles last night for the Nuggets that just really it just awful you know it’s just really terrible I know a lot of suns fans were hoping that the Suns would actually draft him but uh you know you still root for the local kid he’s a good guy and uh for him to go down in game number one like that was just it was really hard to watch he had a good game too that’s the that’s the Killer part is like you can see why the the Nuggets wanted to to move up to take him so you know just very disappointing yeah it’s rough for him rough for the Nuggets cuz they were going to be counting on him to play some rotation minutes for them and like Sol was saying he look good in his debut it’s just one of those unfortunate things that can’t be helped I know a lot of people are going to point to ah This Is Why We Should Skip summer league and not have guys play in these games but like this could happen on a practice court this could happen at any time these guys are going to be playing and practicing no matter what to own their craft so it it really just does suck that it happened first game or that it happened at all yeah I feel terrible for the young man I mean worked his butt off local product uh got himself into the first round uh landed with a good team that I think he was going to he was going to play a big role for them um and like you guys said for it to happen day one that type of injury uh what it takes to come back from that it just breaks your heart but like you said that can happen at any point you play basketball you don’t play to try to not get hurt you go out there and you give it a your all and it just happen so uh prayers out to him man hopefully he gets a speedy recovery he’s young uh I’m I’m you know I’m optimistic he’ll be all right he’ll eventually get back on the court but yeah sucks for him on day one man I think what you said the the toughest part is he was set up quite well to to have an opportunity there in Denver to really make an impact and now he’s going to have to wait at least a year to get back out there on the court and it’s yeah it’s the thing you you hate most to see in summer league as a young guy uh have that injury happen and uh you know be put that dream on hold in a lot of ways uh on a more happy note I want to say hi to our friends in the chat Eno Chantel Andy MCG blue uh thank you all for being here today with us and uh Shantel uh said she really needed this show today after confronting a rat in her storage room this morning so we’re glad to be here we’re glad we can be better than a rat in a storage room for you uh Gerald you were out there yesterday for day one of summer league and you got an opportunity to catch up with a friend of the program I think we can call him friend of the program even though he’s from enem enemy territory Adam marz uh and and what did you guys uh talk about yesterday yeah so I wanted to get his perspective cuz we have not one not two but three former nuggets on the roster now um so he was able to give me a little bit of insight into some of these new Suns that we’ve added to the table and uh this is what he had to say about Monte Morris first of all everybody’s going to like him fans teammates he’s going to be a very well-respected well-liked teammate he’s a great passer never turns it over we’ll have he’ll compete with tus Jones for best assist the turnover ratio in the NBA so you’ll have that and then he’s a really good pick and roll player he has a great mid-range pullup he has a great catch and shoot three and he just knows how to read the court and pick and roll so running a second unit he’s really as good as it gets a little undersized defensively might be a little you know compromised in certain matchups but on the whole he’s a really solid backup point guard yeah and I mean that’s what we’ve heard about Monte from uh from most places that you can expect him not to turn over the ball you can expect him to be a good teammate I know that some people have pushed back on whether that was a good signing or not but the more you hear about this guy I think it’s tough to think uh that it’s anything but exactly what that sun second Union needed right fux I I love him I love I I love him for the Suns I love to fit for him assist to turnover ratio you you know that he’s going to compete every year uh for the best in the league with a guy like tyers he’s going to shoot 40% from three and what I saw defensively was a guy that competes you know he’s not who he used to be but he competes he’s going to give you good effort uh he showed some flashes of it yes last year with Minnesota and so yeah I you can’t ask for better not on vet men man a vet minimum deal you’re not going to do much better than that and he had talked to us earlier in the week when we’ got to talk to him over Zoom about like when he got to Minnesota he knew they were the number one defense in the league so I he was like I’m not going to be the weak link um and he really busted his ass there defensively he was not able to be exploited despite being a little undersized and he was saying I’m I’m going to bring bring that here with me to Phoenix uh and I feel like I’m going to have my best defensive season yet so hopefully that’s something that does carry over for for a team that was just so careless with the basketball last year they needed somebody like this in the worst possible way uh I mean you go back and you look at every single game it felt like the Suns had double digit turnovers damn nearby halftime you know what I mean and so uh the thing I’m looking forward to seeing is is can Mo can can he have that kind of influence on everybody in terms of really caring about the basketball and not being so kind of halfhazard about it um you know cuz the turnovers last year you could like we’ve said it a million times if if they just turn the ball over maybe less than you know five less times a game you’re talking about maybe another eight to 10 wins you know what I mean and then all of a sudden you go from a six Le to all the way up to one two or three and so it could change everything so I’m hoping that’s the kind of influence he’s going to have on this just two assist would have put them in the top 10 right yeah I think if they had two fewer turnovers a night they would have been like a top five team in Tak care of theall yeah you know and I I think it’s contagious a little bit when you get a guy in there that values the ball that much I think he made a comment he said I can’t let you take Mama’s purse yeah yeah it’s contagious man when you go in you have the guy that got that much Focus that rubs off on the rest of the team because uh I’m sure he does little things in lock room I I don’t know this to be fact but uh I I get the impression that when he has a zero zero turnover game h let you know about it oh yeah I hope so know what I’m saying I hope he does I hope he you know I hope he does have those games where he has zero assists and he looks over at KD like what’s up or book or whoever everybody so yeah like I’m looking forward to that it’s not just Monte Morris that uh our friends in Denver know about they’re quite familiar with Mason plumbley as well and this is what Adam had to say about him well he was with the Nuggets during the Monte Morris era so those two have a a chemistry together and honestly you know the 10 years joic has been on the nuggets the Monte plumbley bench was the best bench that they had so they had a great chemistry together uh plumley’s a little older now so he’s probably a little bit less athletic but you know he’ll frustrate you when he misses shots around the basket like he does he’ll he’ll frustrate you with some dumb fouls here or there but he plays hard he’s really smart he knows what he’s doing and he’s a great diver to the rim so Monte Morris Mason plumbley pick and roll should be effective plays smart plays hard and is a good uh diver to the rim it sounds like exactly what they could have used out of that backup center roll last year yeah it sounds like what they wanted out of or were expecting out of Drew Eubanks last year but look yeah there’s going to be frustrating moments for him um he obviously does finish around the rim a lot better than like nerk or Eubanks did last year um but I think I feel like that’s just a common thing with backup bigs you expect them to make everything around the rim so when he misses it might be frustrating when he commits a dumb foul that might be frustrating but he is a guy that just kind of grabs his lunch pail and goes to work and that’s all that you need in in the backup big minutes and if he has chemistry with your backup point guard from their time together in Denver that’s great like I I put together a clip of their lobs like two whole minutes and I barely even scratched the surface of all their assists to each other uh and Monte quote tweeted it this morning he was like very soon so he’s clearly excited to go back to work with plumbley um so that’s going to be exciting to watch I just want consistency man that’s I think that’s if there’s if there’s one thing that the Suns did I feel like they did correct a little bit is they found guys that were largely consistent you didn’t take much of a risk in terms of like what are they going to provide um you know like with UDA last year right he had a good year he’s always been a good shooter but you’re like okay what else is he going to bring to the table and will he be reliable enough to have bigger minutes right and when he got that opportunity he basically faded into Oblivion and he was we haven’t seen him since right um so that’s that’s the the type of players that that I feel like they did get uh with with uh miles and and obviously with Monte so yeah they they they went for more proven Commodities instead of guys that are like on upward trajectories I feel like [ __ ] that up and they do they do come with a little like not concern but obviously both of them are coming off of kind of like injury riddled Seasons um so I did speak with Justin rouso who’s a Clippers expert uh about you know Clippers fans were kind of down on him for that reason and so I asked what he saw out of Mason last year I think Mason season’s a tale of two different seasons uh he was a different player before he got his knee before he got his knee rolled up on by Julius Randle in New York you know completely inadvertent but changed the course of his season I think he rushed back after that and wasn’t really the same athletically um but you know if he’s healthy I do think that there’s athleticism I do think there’s uh secondary playmaking he can give out of elbow sets and stuff like that and he is a solid rebounder for a size not the rim protector he used to be but you know he still competes on that end much better and much more comfortable uh at the level of the screen than playing drop but no you’re getting you’re getting a sorry you’re getting a veteran big and you know it’s what you expect look you guys mentioned the approach to building this bench this year and last year if you just had consistency at all from that second unit I think you’re talking about uh a different complexion of that year now I get it the sweeping the playoffs whatever but I think that’s a huge thing and I think Mason’s going to play a key role in that and may actually even at times have to play more minutes just based on if nerk gets played off the court or if nerk gets in that foul trouble and I I trust a Mason plumbley more than I ever trusted a Drew Eubanks in those minutes yeah I mean again I I think the theme uh for the Suns this off season with the guys they brought in particularly Mason and and Monty is more about consistency experience um maturity MH and then last I would say you know attributes that travel right like we talked about UDA he had a good year but shooting is a it’s a weird thing if that’s your if that’s the one thing you do you know there’s a saying in sports defense travels offense doesn’t always all the time right you got these guys that have been doing it long enough so they got a mature game their attributes and the things they’re good at they travel like you know Mason’s going to bring it every night you know he’s going to bring physical you know he can play make out of that Center position he’s a good teammate he’s going to put pressure on the rim same thing with Monty he’s going to take care of the ball so that’s what I think I think they went out and they said okay no more shooting for the stars or hoping for potential let’s get some consistency and some maturity in this locker room that’s going to actually uh you know in in in in some ways put pressure on on the big three and those other guys to do the same take those risks and those gambl in the draft yeah I’m cool with that because you got Player Development you got time you know you need time you got the G League now you have plenty of opportunities to try and get somebody up to where you need them to be but when you take it as a vet minimum um and you need experience you need some maturity you need somebody that’s going to be consistent and you don’t hit on that that’s just such a big Miss and it and it sets you back and I I think you saw that obviously the Suns recognized that halfway through the year like man we got to we got to almost completely revamp this roster Midway through the season and I I think they kind learn some valuable lessons because of that so I again I I think that with with these guys the consistency is going to be there it’ll inherently immediately make the Suns a little bit better it’s just how much of a better player can they be versus who they’ve been and can they contribute at a high enough level to make this team really really good and stand out yeah champ champ4 uh asked in the chat do we feel confident that this bench is significantly better than last year’s bench I wouldn’t say signicant better I mean I I think I think they’re better I think they’re better they’re better I think they’re better I don’t know about significantly but I do think just the fact that you have Monte to run offense so that the big three don’t have to initiate everything and take care of the ball and he can create his own shot too like we talked about the assistant turnover thing he can he’s a bucket from the mid-range on his own Suns didn’t have anybody off the bench that could create their own shot unless you count Eric Gordon in that mix which I I don’t think we would so I think that alone gives them more weapons offensively and hopefully one or two of the rookies hit right away if like they’ve got four new guys that they added if you include Gillespie and Jaylen Bridges if just two of the four are good enough to be in an NBA rotation you did great this summer yeah so so that’s I think that’s the answer right they got they got better they didn’t get significantly better cuz the verdict is still out on these four rookies that’s fair but if you can get two of them that give you that contribute to to the point where they’re giving you rotational minutes throughout the year then I think you got significantly better cuz I’m I’m going to imagine maybe Ryan done is one of those guys and you got a point of attack Defender that could be your best defender on the team and it can take give KD a break so that’s significantly better for KD and same thing with Monty if he can take care of the ball and bring our turnovers number down and get us into a top five or top 10 in that category and yeah we’re significantly better and then you see what happen with Bridges Gillespie and and and Oso all right when boooo is an Allstar this show G League Valley Suns allar uh I’m going to do this live we don’t have the Sounder but we we we breaking news oh yeah uh Gerald says if we get to 100 likes he’s going to start tomorrow’s show with a double shot so I will do that so get to uh on the pram that’s not really a punishment that’s more of a reward for him I no depends on what I mean that is no tomorrow usually beneficial before the show ends before yes get to 100 likes before the show yeah yeah before like before the show ends 100 likes there’s there’s more than a hundred of you in the chat me let’s just do it right now man get it out the way stop being lazy just hit the damn button let’s go we will keep you updated there’s another thing uh that has been the talk of not just summer league but the whole offseason is second apron and both of these teams uh you know the the nuggets and the Clippers have uh done some moves that were unique to try to stay under that second apron and we had Adam MZ kind of share his thoughts on the second apron well it kind of sucks to be honest with you like I think it’s making the whole league a lot more flat which is what Adam Silver wants right uh I think it is hard for the teams that like Phoenix and like Denver that committed to a plan before these changes I think it’s really hard to Pivot out ultimately I think it could be good for the league to have this balance but I think that the two three years early on in this you’re going to see teams unfortunately like the ERS like Denver like Phoenix that find themselves in these compromised positions so I appreciated Adam answering my question cuz I really wanted to start it off with so what’s it like to have a broke boy owner cuz we don’t have not our problem anymore not our problem um but no I I think it is interesting cuz the nuggets and the Clippers were the two significant teams this Summer that like actively got worse to try to avoid that second apron uh and we as much as we’re going to talk about the state of the roster and what it still needs and all the stuff is a championship caliber at least our owner is like paying so that you know what if we’re in the second apron [ __ ] it we’re going way past it and we’re going to at least structure these contracts so they’re movable so we have some flexibility like you got to love that and appreciate that cuz it is not cheap to do it that way 400 million man yeah like that’s not cheap that’s not cheap you know what I will say I’m sorry I don’t want to cut you off so but it this this new CBA the second apron um as much as people may not like it it’s working and it’s impacting the league in a big way is is it working though I’m going to no I’m saying from the from the from a perspective of teams having to really look at how they structure contracts how they give out money whether being Reckless or not and I I’ll tell you something I saw yesterday that proved to me that this is the new world we’re in and it it could be a cool thing down the road what jayen Brunson did stupid okay it’s stupid AB like you give up 113 million but did you hear his comment his comment was I took 113 million because I’m looking at the landscape and I’m looking at how Tom Brady Derek Jeter and certain guys in other sports had to take less money to win and that’s what this is becoming it’s become now we’re getting to a point where you’re going to have to talk to your stars and say listen man if if you want to win you’re going to have to work with us because these restrictions are so much I will say though he took the most money that he could get now obviously if he had waited till next summer he could have gotten more but by taking this money now if he is still playing at a high level by the time that contract runs its course he will be eligible to make up all of that with his the first two years of his next 81 million he it could be a m 70 and then near 80 for the next the first two years of that next match however it does come with the risk it comes with the risk are you going to be still that player that they’re going to Shell out that kind of money for a couple years down the road so I do get that but he can make that up afterwards and he took as much money as he could get now and there’s also a whole other aspect to to what you said Flex like uh Derek Jeter didn’t have to take a [ __ ] pay cut for [ __ ] because in baseball they can give as much money as they possibly want to anybody right he did it he did it and that’s cool but he didn’t have to is what I’m saying it’s like that’s cool in football though they have the salary cap so Tom Brady doing that yes get that and totally me but again we’re talking about exceptions to the rule Tom Brady can make that money up like that in any type of endorsement anywhere else like did yeah and so like Jaylen brunson’s a little bit different because he’s not necessarily like as you know a star worthy as those guys are yet uh and in New York you’re thinking that you know if he gets him to the finals he will be that dude right and so I get what he’s trying to do and I get the perspective but I I think most players would say like you should never do that kind of stuff and take take a hit because it puts everybody else in in a bad position as well can I I’m going to ask you a question do you think he does that if we weren’t in this new CBA World well I I think he might because he he like I said he got as much money as he possibly could right now obviously wait year right right if he had waited he would have made more next summer for sure but one injury and suddenly that’s at risk so I I I think the CBA played a part of it I don’t know if it’s the sole determining Factor but it is interesting looking around the league because like you look at the Clipper situation yeah with Paul George it was kind of the opposite like they didn’t we weren’t GNA give you that fourth year Philly was so he left um so I actually did ask Justin rouso about that as well and this is what he had to say yeah I think the second apron made it difficult for teams to continue building and I don’t think I think it’s why the Clippers weren’t broken up about about PG leaving I think it they were accepted it I think it allowed them other avenues to improve and um now they can aggregate salaries And Trades now they can send cash which they couldn’t do if they were over the second apron uh they’re now hard capped at the first apron but you know they’re going to be a tax team most likely but they just they want to limit the ramifications and the damages of the aprons and the second apron is changing everything you know like you said the suns are going full bore into it I actually applaud them for it we’ll see what happens next year they’ll probably have to you know make a decision but you make that decision when you have to get there I just I don’t understand it though because they’ve got the richest owner in the NBA and Steve Balmer like the guy is one of the richest people in the world and they and they decide to to go the cheap skate route especially with that new building I get if you don’t want Paul George but they have done nothing really to make that team to make up for that Paul George thing so why not spend the money they made some decent moves yeah and I also think like listen man the Clippers have been at this for like four years with this squad and they haven’t gotten anywhere so why why kind of like foolishly spend money after money when you know that like you haven’t gotten any of the results that you you hope to get you got to the Western Conference Finals in 2021 and then you haven’t even come close since playoff and you’ve had superstar superstar superstar um it it’s just I I get it I do understand that so again to the to the second apron and the CBA um I believe if this new structure wasn’t in place M the flippers give him the fourth year because they want to secure the asset and then they they flip him later right but it’s so much harder to flip somebody in the second apron basically you can so so that’s this is what I’m saying I think the trickle down effect of this it’s not a hard cap like the NFL but it’s starting to feel that way as close as they it’s as close as you can get and this is why the NFL for my money is the best sport in the world because the level competition is always changing there’s always parody because that hard cap in the NFL allows teams to go from being the worst team in football to the Super Bowl the very next year if you make the right Financial moves Cincinnati Bengals did that recently when they had in the burrow thing so this is the new NBA and I I’m with y’all I think the Suns if you’re all here’s the thing about the hard if you’re all in man go all in don’t be like in the middle fiddling around and that’s what I think that’s the thing that I don’t think a lot of people talk about ishbia about is that okay okay we’re in this window right now I’m not going to try and pinch pennies corre to try and get this this this uh this Trio to work I got to give them every possible tool to see if we can maximize it to get a championship and then after it’s run its course you get to a certain point where like okay I gave them everything they needed and they still couldn’t do it time to time to rework and I’m telling you this right now like if they [ __ ] around and get swept again in the first round this year guess what a lot of moves are coming and some big names might even be on the way out and but that’s but you got to give it a full opportunity to do it and the Clippers tried to do that for four years they even added James Harden to the mix because they thought maybe that was the missing link and that didn’t come close to being the missing link kawai’s always injured Paul George has been kind of hit or miss when George is there he’s great when kawai’s there he’s great but too often they they both couldn’t get on the same court at the same time and it ran its course I get what the Clippers are trying to do don’t don’t throw away money if you don’t have to if I’m a Clippers fan I am pissed off because I’m not spending top dollar to go into that new building to watch a team that’s basically in basketball Purgatory I don’t want a team that’s fighting for the bottom of the the last few spots in the Western Conference playoffs where you’re trying to charge me up the nose because you spent $2 billion on a stadium with the most toilets in the NBA but I do think if you’re a Clippers like Clippers fans were sick of Paul George by the end of the play I don’t think they should have kept Paul George but they have not made any other moves and that’s what disagree I feel like they’ve added some decent like they’re going to add Chris Dunn he’s a decent piece they’ve added some decent like role players I feel like they’re going kind of similar to The Warriors losing Klay Thompson they’re going the route of like depth and just solid guys not Stars not you’re not going to replace Paul George for sure but they’ll be competitive I was thinking about that yesterday actually is just like you know everybody is always talking about star power like everybody’s been bitching about the fact that the Suns quote unquote didn’t really make a big move right like cuz they want the name they want the name they want the name right but I’m sitting there looking at like all the greatest teams of all time like yeah they had some star power at the top but their role players were just as important into making sure that they were elevated enough to get to a title um and they were playing their roles at high levels and that’s what you really need to do so you can win a championship with one or two star players and a bunch of role players you can do that are the Clippers going to do that probably not not with kawhai and how how inconsistent he is he’s the one superstar in the league that I would have been like yeah I’m not going all in on that guy because he’s too fragile and he’s too unpredictable I don’t know what I’m going to get but when you’re looking at the Suns like I feel like they they kind of re-evaluated um their their bench and they they again they they targeted consistency they targeted consistency at a high level they needed more consistent players that weren’t going to be so up and down game after game after game right uh and then I they got a coach that was going to try and get that out of them as well and not be so inconsistent from one game to the next I’ve always preached you got to play your own game you got to play your own system and you got to find the players as a good going to be able to do it you got to stop worrying about what other teams are doing and again last year just like the year before sometimes when Monty would Tinker around sometimes with with matchups because he was matching up to the other teams a little too too often last year it was so inconsistent from game to game we tal we talked about bow Bowl 32 points in the next game he barely even played if he played at all like these are the things that they’re trying to shore up get some consistency across the board and the type of player that you’re in you have to know what your DNA is all about it feels like the suns are figuring that out we’re going to take a break but on the other side of the break will the Phoenix Suns play here in Vegas next year we’ll talk about it in a second but well the Clippers may be ordinary this year you know who isn’t who our friends at bet 365 uh there’s never sending them in today psycho blue friend of the program says this new CBA feel feels like a Bizarro world where cheap owners are celebrated and spending owners are condemned Brunson gets hurt then what uh shake my head uh so that’s uh what psycho blue thinks about all this I mean it’s tough this is a different world this is a different NBA get used to it it it’s not changing I think the 17 teams that are harda right now and that’s not including the Suns the Bucks Minnesota they’re not hard cap but they’re second apron so you’re talking about 20 out of the 30 teams really can’t do anything which is why it’s acquire free agency R yeah they can’t they’re it’s dangerous though because you can only get to a certain point you’re right like the hard cap thing for some of the teams they just got there by doing one of those like they took back more money or whatever it is so that hard cap them and they’re still like way below it but yeah you’re right like we’re getting to the point where if you want to be competitive you’re probably going to be going up against that tax apron at some point uh and that’s going to make it really hard to make trades I think we’re in store for like we’ve seen it this off season with free agency it’s been very slow it’s been a steady like drip but it hasn’t like we haven’t had that full waterfall of like deal deal deal and I think it’s going to be the same thing at the trade deadline I think it’s going to be kind of a boring trade deadline because teams are going to be hamstrung in terms of what they can do which is a giant Miss by the NBA because that’s some of uh the most talked about and anticipated moments of the Season mentioned before the break uh that the Suns could wind up playing here in Vegas no they’re not going to be moving uh that was what we call a tease in the business uh they might be able to make it here in December for the NBA cup that’s what they’re referring to it uh now not the inseason tournament and yesterday they dropped the groups that the sun uh that the league will play in the tournament the suns are going to be in West Group B it’s the Thunder Lakers Jaspers and Suns uh a tough draw not the toughest draw of the tournament for sure but uh do what do you think about about the group that they drew and more importantly do you care in year two about this I give no shits about this yeah I I I don’t was the novelty was in year one I you know and we looked at it and we’re like okay you know it gives them something different to play for but at the end of the day it didn’t really matter at all I disagree I do too no listen I when I say I give no shits I’m talking result wise I like the tournament yeah yeah I I I I like the tournament I it’s not like if you win the tournament it makes me feel different I mean Lakers wanted and look how that worked out hey they got a banner um yeah what’s wrong with that and I hope we don’t do that I hope we don’t do we definitely doing so so you doing that you think so oh we were going to you you uh you disagree that that it actually mattered in the end of the season it was fun did we have [ __ ] fun like I I don’t understand why we do this sport I was saying I was like it was it was a cool novelty to see but at the end but at the end of the season it didn’t really it didn’t have an effect on anything cuz it was a midseason tournament it’s not an end it has no bearing on the end of season I’m just saying that’s the thing we we keep thinking about fact of the day Gerald I know but we keep thinking about it like it has to have some bearing on the end of the season it’s it’s a midseason tourn it’s an NBA cup it’s like a separate thing like soccer does this [ __ ] all the time like why are we as Americans so like what are we doing it doesn’t have any bearing on the end of the like no nobody giv crap about November and early December basketball and it gave people a reason to watch that’s a success yeah the championship game was a bu I’ll admit that the championship game was a bust but like everything leading up to that was fun the the actual games in the regular season were very competitive uh they were lower margin of Victory difference there like it was more competitive from that standpoint I like it just saying I have fun with it yeah I’m just saying like in year one I was I was tuned in and I was you know I was like I thought this was cool I thought the courts were cool I you know thought everything that they put into it was cool I don’t know if I’m going to be paying that much attention in year two is what I’m saying it’s like you know I I I got the novelty and you know and I moved on no I I mean I I don’t I don’t listen I I think it’s fun I liked it I like the fact that it got to a point where you’re playing full 48 minutes and you’re woring about how much do you beat a team by right the point that was a lot of fun um yeah cuz that Deon Booker 3 in Memphis is it mattered so I I I it was exciting it was competitive it was different I had a lot of fun with it I think we’re going to continue to have fun with it I just don’t you know like there was some people that were like disappointed that the you know the Suns didn’t win the T that’s where I draw the line I’m like have fun with it it’s good for the league it doesn’t have to necessarily be a Phoenix Suns thing I if we went it be fun i’ take anything that made this fan base feel good about this team year a win in this tournament maybe turns around some of this BS of oh this team isn’t good because regular season wins are going to matter this year to the to this fan base because uh you know they’re going to want to believe in this team again they need something I I’ll take it you you look at the group Thunder Lakers are really the the two good teams I mean not to bch the Jazz but I don’t think they’re going to be great I mean they’ll be bad I think the Spurs might be a little friskier yeah Spurs and thunder are are going to be tough I mean we know the Thunder but the Spurs are going to be a little frisky yeah I think the Suns will win this group I’m making a my high take is Lakers go back to back baby I think the Thunder win this group pretty easily I think I think yeah yeah cuz I mean I like what the Thunder have done they’re they’re they were already the number one team in the west last year um obviously this is a different format limited games and whatnot so it could go any direction really but I I like the Caruso Edition for them and they’re a young team that just got you know a year of playoff experience under their belt but I I think the Suns will put up a good fight though and and you also don’t know what injuries we’ll be dealing with from all the teams and these groups how things shake out everything listen if if the suns are fully healthy and they go into this thing with a full deck of cards uh unlike last year I I can I can see them in the Thunder fighting for this group and they avoided the group of death which is good oh yeah like the Nuggets mad Pelicans War Grizzlies won there’s no like pushover in that group yeah that’s a tough group U yeah I I agree with you guys I do it’s just you know again I I maybe I’m I’m a little scorned after watching this team play basketball that look like they just weren’t they weren’t like into it as much as I would have liked them to be into it from game to game and you kept hearing all these things about like oh well you know they’re just waiting for the playoffs they’re just bored from the regular season and then they got to the [ __ ] playoffs and got their ass swept and now I’m like all right dude I don’t give a [ __ ] about tournament I don’t give a [ __ ] I just want game after game effort consistency and highle play from Superstars that’s what I want to see but winning winning the tournament running that table but playing better than the Thunder wouldn’t that would that go a long way to make you feel better as long as before and after is in a [ __ ] show oh that’s fair abely if you if you just go on a run to to win a tournament that’s kind what the Lakers did though be ridiculous before and after they were kind of like man you know what I mean they had a good run but that’s not like the Pacers made it to the final and the Pacers wound up winning a playoff series and surprising everybody and like actually being legitimately good so I don’t think it like I think the Lakers they were still a playoff team obviously they lost pretty quickly in the first round um but I do think even from the Suns perspective like we saw it during those tournament games like they were locked in they lost to the Lakers in that tough one uh the controversial calls down the stretch and whatnot uh but I do think as a fan base were just kind of scarred from a season and like there were more good moments last season than just you know the Kevin Durant gamewinner like there was a Deon Booker gamewinner at Madison Square Garden there were couple of comebacks there was the Kings comeback like there were good moments but I feel like the negative just outshone everything else and this is a different team again I think what you’re trying to say is is like we had we had a a beautiful bowl of ice cream to start the season and then somebody took a dump all over the top of it they at the end I would say there was good parts underneath for sure over all I got was a bowl of [ __ ] no that’s not listen thanks for that visual I think you’re jaded I think that’s what it is yeah I this team is different like that team that ended the year in the playoffs vers Minnesota I flushed that a long time ago that’s not the team we’re going to see this year you flushed the ice cream I did the the [ __ ] bowl of ice cream just that top layer so you can have that ice cream I flushed it we got a new coach we got some new pieces um experience is the best teacher this big three has some experience now I um I think this is an entirely different team and I think I I don’t want to go into the world I got I don’t want to go into the PS uh PTSD world of just like okay that’s who they are now I’m done I’m not saying that that’s who they are I’m cautiously optimistic about this squad but again I I I didn’t really care about who they added to the mix I really didn’t care CU I didn’t think that they were going to add some big time name outside of LeBron for a little a little short window right it it’s all going to be about bud in The Big Three M what are they going to do how are they going to rectify this how are they going to fix this situation how are they going to elevate everybody else and how are they going to be more consistent than they were last year because last year was was a dis 49 wins sounds like it shouldn’t be a disappointment but it was because our expectations weren’t to get bounced in the first round they were to at least make a decent run second third round and what are your expectations next year I don’t have any expectations that’s good I don’t have any this is this is why I think this team’s going to be very good I will say this cuz I think the expectations drops my expectation is what I just said I want to see consistency I want to see high level play and whatever goes from there I’ll live with I’ll be fine but if they’re just out there turning the ball over 25 times a game again they’re not looking like they have any cohesion and chemistry is all jacked up and then I got to hear oh well they’ve only played 50 games together oh they’ve only played 60 games together [ __ ] that win a game but I’m sorry there are expectations when you spend almost half a billion dollars on your roster uh like there are the the expectation is you win a title I don’t I see if you do not win a title this year you have wasted two years of Devin Booker’s Prime you wasted you tried you win or you failed why why okay great give me a give me some orange lices to participation enough of this [ __ ] of they tried either you win or you don’t okay Yoda [ __ ] like relax like why are we doing this as sports fans if we can’t enjoy any of it like if it’s Championship or [ __ ] why are we doing this why are we sitting here talking that’s what I’m saying is like I want to enjoy the game I want to watch the game and not be like what the [ __ ] are they doing again I’m not saying you can’t enjoy the season I’m just saying at the end of it if it doesn’t wind up in a title that’s a disappointment with how much you’ve spent put together by the definition come on man do we need to pull up honest failure in sports it’s failure by definition yes but it doesn’t mean that like it was a mistake that’s my thing like if you are if you are going all in and you’re pushing your chips to the table we said this two years ago when they traded for KD and then when they followed up with Beal like we were so sick of the young team that they had because we were like we felt like we hit our ceiling we didn’t want to just be complacent we would have looked at the next two years with an aging Chris Paul and a DeAndre who hadn’t figured it out and been like well we’ just wasted two years of Deon Booker’s Prime at least they push all the chips to the table and it’s like [ __ ] it if we if we go go big we go big or we go home if we lose then we we retool we do something different in 2026 but at least they’re [ __ ] like but I think I think the thought process cannot be a failure the action to put them in this position and spend the money cannot be a failure but the result can be like I will never bmer Matt ishbia for spending the money and going all in and trying to win but that doesn’t mean if the product on the court doesn’t live up to it that that part can’t be disappointing and you can enjoy the ride and be pissed off at the destination but what you’re saying now is different than saying you wasted two years of Booker’s Prime that’s different okay but but the the reality is at the end of it if you don’t win he’s 2 years older and and then you’re looking at in 2026 another retool or or rebuild where he is now it’s the third iteration I I get that I get that D but we got to stay where we’re at like I I’m I’m a little frustrated with the constant looking at the next move and the next move and listen I I think they they went all in they have a team that they think can compete uh I’m looking at this team very much like the 21 team when we made the Chris Paul deal and we made these adjustments no one had expectations of the Suns winning a championship [ __ ] I remember doing a show with you two VAR right here and we were talking barely make the playoffs that year so that’s this is what I’m saying but that team’s so different this team has Devin Booker Kevin Durant Bradley Beal a $400 million that was a surprise team you added Chris Paul to Devin Booker and a group of young guys and they did surprise this team ain’t going to surprise I feel like it is because so many down onbody nobody is putting them in a contender class right now that’s what I’m saying like they are going to surprise the the the narrative will be oh they finally did what everybody thought they would do it’s not going to be that drives me crazy again who gives a [ __ ] about what other people think about that in that reality like no yeah but that’s but that we have no job without the Nar but we saw what we saw in last year like these three didn’t win a championship they didn’t play at a high level in the playoffs and they got bounced so if they come back this year and fix those problems I don’t think people are going to be like well that’s what they were supposed to do no cuz we just saw what they did and what they were capable of not doing last viewed like the 2021 no they’re not going to be 20 but that was like a Cinderella te was surprise yeah that was a surprise team but that doesn’t mean the expectations that doesn’t mean that the expectations that are set on this team got to prevent you from being pleasantly surprised this season I think that’s going the case and also real quick real quick guys the other thing I would say is like organizationally just like us launching this company right over the course of the last three years we’ve learned a lot of different things about what to do and what not to do in terms of how to get the very best product out there right I think this organization with Matt ishia and and bartelstein and everybody they’re kind of doing the same thing they’re like okay this is how we thought we wanted to attack this and then as you go along you start to realize like oh we should not have done that let’s not do that in the future and my point is I think organizationally we have a championship in my eyes we have a championship level uh commitment from the organization to try and do everything they can to win and at some point even if it’s without Devon Booker down the road 10 years down the road what ever I think organizationally they’ll find their consistency enough to be at a high level year in year out and that’s the whole goal it’s like you want to be a championship level organization year in year out not just these little flashes they try to get the flash to get everything going right now and I get it with KD and everything like that as this goes along I think those things are going to start to weed themselves out and they’re going to find a little bit more balance across the board but that that floor will go higher and that’s what you want as a fan if the Suns win 55 games are a team that we’re looking at and saying this team can beat anyone in a playoff series and get to the Western Conference Finals I I I just I I can’t view that as a failure I’m not I’m not doing that this year I am not saying championship of bus this year I’m saying the narrative around the world is this team is ass this team got swept this team is terrible stick with that narrative and let these guys play ball but don’t change the now when the Suns come out 20 and 10 and they got one of the best records in basketball don’t immediately run to okay they they better win a championship no no you weren’t saying that coming in no one has the Phoenix Suns as a championship Contender right now I do I think they went like I said the other day 55 to 60 games I think I think bare minimum they make the Western Conference Finals that’s how much I believe in the changes that were made Bud coming in and making a giant impact and that’s why I still have my standard set there at Championship or bus because to your point I think they did learn from last year they made the changes our point is not that it shouldn’t be Championship or bus like with this payroll with the talent that you have with the big three obviously it’s Championship orust but my thing is pushing back on the idea that if they fail it was a waste of time it was it was the wrong decision like you can make the right decision and still not win a championship 29 teams do it every [ __ ] year pretty much so like we as fans need to understand that when we when we look back on Steve Nash’s years like obviously the fact that he never won a title sting but do we look at Steve Nash as a failure do we look at those as a no individually Steve Nash is not a failure those years yeah they were a failure no they were not they did nottle does matter CH basketball if you’re playing this to win a title what the [ __ ] the point of the last by title in 58 years have you not been happy at all during this of son’s basketball enjoying it and being happy with the result again are two different things so no 57 years without a title is horseshit I don’t care if you have the fifth best you never won a title how would you know how it feels it’s got to feel better than losing in the first round uh we’re going to take a break but when we come back on the other side you know what’s going to feel good seeing Ryan Dunn on the basketball court tonight here in Vegas if he doesn’t win a summer league championship hey you know what you get a ring now for a summer league championship we’re going to hang that Banner in the G League arena if they pull it off but we’re out here at circuit Resorts and casinos it is spectacular I love it here my room is probably the best hotel room I think I’ve ever had anywhere and I used to travel with the team from time to time I love it here Stadium Stay The Ritz I did and I actually like this room better than the one I had the RIT out here in Vegas uh so look I I love Stadium swim I I’m excited that we’re going to get to go out there uh tomorrow uh and Monday since there’s no games uh for the next few days uh enjoy a little time The Unbelievable place to watch a game uh you know you guys were telling me there’s a swim up uh casino now I might have to try my are you actually going to get in the pool this time yeah maybe you’re full of [ __ ] I don’t know nobody wants to see this with a shirt off this guy is always solo in the actually Gerald comes into the I went in what are you talking about nobody again nobody wants to see this I don’t want to ruin the stadium swim experience for anybody here seen some of the people out there i’ much rather uh stay stay nicely dressed like this and hit the casino floor here with their it’s a 7,000 ft casino floor 1300 slot machines almost 50 table games I love it here uh and you will too uh so come on out here experience Stadium swim and watch your favorite team at Circa uh Resort and casinos and if you need a little scratch before you make the trip up here to Vegas because you know what you’re bound to lose some money that’s just the way a Vegas trip goes whether you’re spending on great food or at the casino uh uh the summer Suns finally take the court we’re going to head out uh to the Thomas and Max Center here in a few to catch the games but I want to know uh what are you hoping to see T what do you what do you need to see in a game one of Summer I’m actually excited I I Ryan dun I I just I just want to see this guy actually in the basketball game with the defensive prowess and and his ability I want to see him take on that assignment and dominated I want to see Jaylen bridges’ opportunities that he gets in his catch and shoot opportunities I want to see Oso’s IQ and potentially him bringing the ball up a little bit so it’s a lot a lot to enjoy tonight I mean I’m I’m excited you want to finish the rest of the roster or you want me to keep gone you know I’m looking forward Bo you but he’s speaking to something that we didn’t have last year we had Tani and we had Jordan Goodwin and that was pretty much it like and we got four minutes of Jordan Goodwin he didn’t he get hurt yeah he only played like a game in or a couple minutes and then tumani we only got like two games of him too so like this year is fun we have we got two rookies we got a two-way guy we got boy who should be boooo who should be fun like I’m excited I want to see the strengths of Dunn and Oso and I also want to see how they do with the weaknesses as well yeah I want to see Oso I I mean I I’m going to be paying attention to Dun obviously especially on the offensive side of the ball but Oso is intriguing because I don’t I’m very curious to see how his game is going to fit at the NBA level in terms of like he’s a he can be versatile like he he’s he’s a good ball handler he can do a lot of different things but the shooting is not one of them and especially on the perimeter and how teams will start to kind of play him and maybe sag off and figure out what he’s going to be able to do I’m curious to see how he’s going to adjust and what kind of things he can take advantage of with his game in the NBA space um to really give the Suns a viable Advantage as they move forward so I he’s he’s probably the the one that I’m going to be keeping an eye on the most outside of obviously booooy yeah I need I need to see Oso’s ball handling I want to see his playmaking because I’ve heard about it I’ve seen some of it on on tape from Marquette I I’m looking forward uh to that and obviously how does Ryan G shoot like how many times is he shooting threes and what does it look like I mean that’s that’s a big part of this summer league is you need to see a little something where you go okay maybe this guy can shoot the crazy thing is about Ryan Dunn is like and everybody pointed out during the process is like his form is good like he’s got great form like it’s just the consistency that’s what Tony Bennett said one talked I am begging people no matter what happens today if he shoots three for three if he shoots 0 for o if he shoots 0 for 10 please do not re overreact whatever happens today because I know that’s going to be the biggest thing no matter what he shoots people are going to lose their [ __ ] one way or another what what yeah what do you think will be the biggest overreaction tonight that no matter how you think it be that it’s going to be that I I I think I think we’ll see Jaylen Bridges have a big game and everybody will be like give him David Rody spot especially David Rody doesn’t do anything I’m tempted to walk over here and put in a the suns are plus 300 yeah M I’m tempted to put a Suns money line plus 300 and I’m struggling with one of these guys putting up 20 I think it’s going to be Bridges all right so I’m going to go uh with golden state tonight you going to go what I’m going Golden State tonight for wi hey hold on let me clear this [ __ ] up man I’m getting mad here no I’m not getting M let me clear this up the Phoenix I’m look right the Phoenix Suns are going to bounce back this year and have a much better year than last year and so the [ __ ] am I okay that betting stuff that happened last year that was the old Phoenix Suns and the old Flex watch me come back this year and run the damn table I’m I’m committed hold on don’t compare you to the Do Not compare you to the Phoenix they absolutely perfect hold on the 40 they won 49 games you were more like that 18 win sub right yeah he just keeps digging them in okay bro I’m coming for you next year by the way did we get 100 likes I did we no you all are we even close yo what what’s going on man get these likes up by the way psycho blue says this year’s motto haul ass no more Marathon ass y’all get to 100 likes I don’t even drink I’ll take a shot of him take a shot ofy on the show we got two super chats I believe do we have two more I can’t see [ __ ] other than the ones I’ve read so uh okay you’re going to put them on the screen I when they when I get get them up here on the screen we’ll read them and then we’re going to get out of here after this here we go uh Kev says uh when you look at Oso’s game do you see a healthy confident Ben Sim no I mean don’t even give me that thought I I think Ben Simmons was really athletic at that position I think Oso’s a good Rim Runner lob guy but I the playmaking is different it’s just a different level like different ath like a big bigger Boris di yeah I can see that I can see that I actually like that one he’s a skinnier yic kidding just kidding uh and then psycho blue with another one uh we will overreact to everything in One Direction or another we’ll especially overreact if any of these guys have bad shoot shooting days or get looked off by their teammates no shot no dog Etc uh we got the 100 we got the 100 we got so I’m taking a shot of heny tomorrow on the show starting it with a double shot you know what I’ll uh I’ll I’ll join in since we don’t have any game tomorrow and I can uh we don’t got to fight this guy over here to join him all listen I see I’m going to let you guys Le talk and talk uh I just don’t think you realize like what the plan is for tonight and I just feel like maybe tomorrow you’re not really going to feel like you want to take a shot at that point that’s why this commitment from me was so important I don’t think these guys realize I think Gerald’s going to be still drunk tomorrow when we start the show so we’ll just go along hey uh we’re going to get out of here because we get over to the arena you can follow Saul at saulor Bookman you can follow Gerald at Gerald Borg you can follow Flex at Flex from Jersey you can follow the Suns at P or the show at phnx Suns you can Great additions 🏀🏀
More dunks
More blocks
More heart please❤
we'll overract to Dunns shooting, both ways.
Love what Gerald was saying about enjoying the games, rather than focusing on the future and expectations enjoy the games. Spot on! "Why are we even doing this as fans if we're not even going to enjoy the games?" Sure some games were awful, but there were some awesome ones as well. That comes with being a fan.
I don’t like it when my four gay dads argue.
Espo is right. Chip or bust and don’t waist prime Book.
