Utah Jazz vs Philadelphia 76ers | Full Game | 2024 NBA Summer League | July 10, 2024

Utah the state of sport starting five for Philadelphia dton with McCain in the back court Ricky Council the fourth see if he can have a little bounceback game struggled last night with Edwards and Bona Utah keante George and briy sah along with Cody Williams Taylor Hendrick and Walker Kesler for the Jazz bowler I’m keeping my eye on Taylor Hendrick right I think one of the things that he’s getting better at is being the primary defend but I like to see him be a little more in control and physical going to the basket maybe saw a lot of offensive rebound put back so keep an eye on Taylor tonight mentioned Ricky Council the fourth seven points last night after 29 Monday against Oklahoma City so Bona will jump up against Kesler 68 against 71 another good match up bowler Kesler and Bona batt in the paint still going for the tip Philadelphia first possession of this game the D controls the dribble Bona has been a beast T in these first two games just a physical player Council rolls it up inside and he got a taste of Kessler on the first possession Walker Kessler is dynamite at Rim protection there you go Hendrick reaches in just missed that layup got it back from ker drops a triple from the corner I like that missed the bunny on the layup but nice catch and shoot right corner three by Taylor Hendricks Good Start Hendricks rested did not dress last night Monday night eight points and five rebounds free ball is deep ker able to block out Bona for the [Applause] rebound nicely down the pass just a bullet on a rope into Sall Bry played at Ohio state known for his three-point game as billy gets their first Bucket from Edwards like the pace already both teams pushing it after miss or made buckets trying to get back before the defense can set [Music] up Keon George the pressure Keon is getting early here’s Hendricks inside with two to shoot fouled so Philadelphia bails down Hendricks on a late shot clock foul he’ll shoot two nice we with all by Bryce Sall to get out ahead of the defense for a nice push nice easy bucket Deontay George with a nice kick ahead and again Taylor Hendricks coming out with that attitude right to be more aggressive on the offensive end first one a little strong 20 years of age drafted at 19 69 210 he went 40 games for the Jazz last season the way things worked with those three first round draft picks Keon got the early opportunity then came Hendrick and then came Sall from the G League yeah I think Keon was the most ready not totally ready but the most out of the three and Taylor Hendrick really started to come on with his development from the G league and so did Black B Kessler to early rebound sah rolls it up inside Walker again the rebound a little short Bona takes it down to dton drops it over the top to McCain a little short for walk K on that shot but I like the attempt last year he may have kicked that one out not even looked at the baset talking to Shan Sheldon the summer league head coach for the Jazz they want him to be a facilitator as well that ball comes inside he can throw it back out sends a ball henrix free throw line again short on that push shot Edwards fires up from three and Hendrick battles for the rebound Walker finally picks it up [Music] kante to his right into the paint draw kick that three ball will take a jump out and out of bounds one official looks at another it will be Jazz ball 14 back on the shot there’s Shawn Shan Sheldon came with Will Hardy from San Antonio I guess in a way they both grew up in the room sounds like a good place to start as a budding head coach Eric spoler did the same thing and you know the success he’s had in Miami well they’re around every single play every single player on video understanding the game Keon I like the the confidence the balance on that shot as he floats home too yeah I like what he’s doing at the start of this game Keon George not trying to force it up Council has tried to take on Ker out twice and denied Cody Williams Hendrick out ofs ran out of the room B you know we walk floors a lot around the league and it is a tight spot down low and here’s Walker again 71 just being a big and being disruptive yep third most blocked shots in the league this past season looking to do a better job even with that dton scores El loer in his two seasons 327 block shots last year injured early a little bit off didn’t get back in the starting lineup and this third year as we’ve talked it’s a big one for Walker chestler little touch foul dton put a hand on the hip and a push he’ll pick up the foul his first and a timeout five 58 to play opening quarter the Jazz early by four Team USA Justin zanic in the middle the general manager and the CEO of Jazz basketball uh Danny a terrific player won a title with Boston built the Celtics into a title team as well and put his fingerprints on this year’s championship team and now trying to do the same thing in Salt Lake absolutely he’s got a really good crew out here try to improve their game as Pon turns it over that opens up the floor with a run to the rack and winding back for the bucket is Ricky Council scores his first two he played a wi to State then finished up at Arkansas a slip pass Baseline George sends a ball brings it back down seven to shoot a double him that falls down low Maybe a little too low for Walker and it’s another turnover two straight turnovers for Utah make it three in a row Ricky Council getting out on that break with an emphatic finish Council run by Hendricks Finds Its way back inside kler again making his presence known denying Bradley a former jazz man out of North Carolina first time we’ve seen Bradley on the floor here in Salt Lake Edwards in transition rolls it back fires up a three that ball yes did not hit the rim I felt the breeze bowler oh there’s a breeze still blowing through took it right it’s good to see Tony Bradley three years with a jazz a great young man 2017 to 2020 last year he play for the Texas Legends he came into this league worked hard had to get his body right a some weight musle up kler passes out wide open look Hendrick [Applause] ker Jazz reset the clock darus basley inside inside Hendrick swinging up and in walk second effort caral on that ball nice little pass to B right pain for Taylor Hendricks offensive foul Tony Bradley moving on that screen one of the most popular calls in the league that big he’s got to hold his ground especially while that defensive player is [Music] moving Kessler already has pulled down seven rebounds nearly a turnover it went off the hands of Hampton Philadelphia Matt brzy Nick nurse of course a head coach he stopped by last night had a great discussion great discussion with him our first look at Isaiah CER tonight 29th pick last month Hendrick for three good look he’s hit two triples here early and that’s a great sign 136 Utah that’s why I wanted to keep an eye on him see how he was bounce back from that first game doing a great job on both ends of the Court being a lot more patient on that three RJ Hampton on the four with Sims wide open spins home at three jayen Sims 66 rookie paer brings a little more be and it’s an interesting combination and Jaylen Sheldon told us that he’s going to look at a lot of different combinations but to put him and ke and the back court together is intriguing very intriguing Bradley the rebound here’s mint he’s had a nice summer league Hampton fires up a three rebound down inside finger rolls at home that’s David Jones out of Memphis he’s averaged nearly 7.7 rebounds here in Salt Lake talked about ker keante George that back for it gives you two different guards with two different [Applause] looks timeout Jazz by two here in Sal Lake Miss Utah the state of sport and by SeatGeek the official ticket partner of the Utah Jazz and Delta Center that is Snowbasin ski resort in the summer a totally different look come winter time here in the state of Utah and I don’t think uh the lifts move that fast that’d be a joy Ry though Kyle Philip howski on the floor for the first time for Utah basley no bucket [Music] whistle a defensive 3 second call before the shot like to see how filipowski find his rhythm as well in his space the game is sped up for him obviously at this level Jazz were surprised to that he was available at the number 32 pick and they they grabbed him he’s a stretch four he can play the five but he’s also known as that that player that the every everyone wants to stretch the floor knock home three so far though 0 for seven in the two games from behind the arc yeah and I thought it helped him the other night to get a law of dunk just to kind of get him in the mix of doing something different than settling from the three-point line so let’s see how he can inject himself into this game on both ends Sims denied Mintz in the paint takes on filipowski like basley maybe slid over to help picked up the foul or did he give it back to to Kyle Phil lowski the foul his first and I thought he did a decent job of stand in front of the offensive player but you need to go vertical in this league to not get that whistle blown in his hands came over the top of the offensive play as summer league action rolls on coming up in Vegas starting Friday on NBA TV ESPN and the ESPN app with four matchups headlined of course by those two on ESPN rockets and Lakers then the number one and two picks of the draft will battle Hawks and wizards Bonnie James will be in Vegas for the first time summer league action that is that last call by the way just to update you they waved off the defensive 3 second call there was no free throw and they gave basy the three that’s why they had a a trio of the three officials stand and talk about it nice job that time by pal filipowski going vertical on that drive basley strides in to front Court Here Comes s ball head down over with the top pass CER too strong on that three inside ripping it down on the rebound filipowski he’ll go to S ball he’ll try it again ball jumps off the rim Philly the other way Jones across the timeline a quick turn around how about that spinner look like he was on skates and the bucket is scored by Philadelphia and miscommunication there by the Jazz the wi open in that extended post area no one around him defensively mitt scores his first two after hitting a free throw see the Jazz good Cody Williams more involved he’s got six minutes one rebound no shots yet nice pass basley inside filipowski denied looked like Jones got a finger on it he’ll roll it down the other way and going Coast to Coast with a left hand little high push upot shot beautiful shot by Jones just going right at basley nice little cross step and just rising up for a soft shot tied at 16 thanks to an 11 to3 run by Philadelphia Jazz started out hitting shots Inside Out Philadelphia misss the foul s ball will be at the line for two s b slimm down a little bit Yeah you can tell I mean it’s paying off had a really nice game last night it’s Dylan Jones that nice match up there see let’s take a look at tonight’s hot ticket it’s presented by SeatGeek the official ticketing partner of the Jazz and Delta Center know he has that 66 frame like Jones yep and The Knack for scoring he’s had 32 games in his pocket last year and averaged just under eight points a game so this is his first summer league he didn’t get a chance to play last year had an injury hurt late in the season at Ohio State now CER gets aggressive and picks up the foul the Jazz have multiple picks all the way through 2029 and you have a bunch on the floor right now yes they do you you talked about the brain trust trying to put this team in a position to be successful got some guys trying to earn their spot Kev Alma Aluma pardon me with that nice drive low inside he’s average nearly 14 points a game impress Lum has tried to overdo it outside of his Ro rookie Virginia Tech is Kev Aluma and the horn sounds 10 minutes complete in Salt Lake Jazz battling the Sixers in the finale of the Salt Lake City summer league up by one B we talked about the progress of one Taylor Hendricks and how he needed to come out put a stamp on this game right away and he’s done just that nice patience on the kick outs right here nice quick up before the defense can respond you like the way he’s developing and he’s going to be a big part of as you talk about this team being built they’re relying on him to be that defensive guy on end but offensively stand the ball Cody Williams denied as he made a run against Bona well he’s done that each and every night here in Salt Lake 68 245 D stop and go right to left six on the shot clock for Edwards B pass Williams for shot clock got a hurry got it away and hit the three Luma really impressed with now big shot first lead for Philadelphia theyig Trail by seven and the Jazz have gone cold they started two of three and at the start of the second quarter they had had gone four of 16 unforced turnover right [Music] there Philly has done a great job on the defensive end Bona doing what he’s been doing all summer league rejection there on Cody [Music] Williams here’s McCain ja get caught up in the paint and that threee ball is knocked up and over the backboard so the Jazz put Taylor Hendricks K Bowski and those big rolls KY gets a foul that two fouls early on filipowski you get 10 in the summer league D again likes to use that right to left [Music] move Williams Baseline against Hendricks Ball kicked out of bounds and they’ll reset it back for 14 on the shot clock good [Music] good lot of pushing Bona was pushing around Philip howski then he tossed away Cody Williams yeah he can do that b can’t get away with it but he’s strong enough to do it and just a great specimen of a basketball player 41st pick and a UCLA home is Nigeria Williams comes out kler back in so send a ball and Keon George in the back court for Utah and they’re going to play Philip hsky and Walker together here yeah I lik that and with Taylor gets in some height defensively as well Edwards trying to get physical picks up the foul tossing away Keon George well that’s going to be synonymous with guard Deontay George it has been in the first game especially putting a lot of pressure on him that ball picked off as zah tried to find filipowski at the Run Walker gets back a little bit too late Bona nice move strong move up top 17-6 run now by the Sixers they’ve done that in a 5 minute span there’s a reach in knocked down of the hands of filipowski but a foul Bona just everywhere defensively picks that one off gets back down the other end and pushes Walker kler little too far under the basket to do anything about that shot look at Summer League I get it but still a pretty impressive pick at number 41 for Philadelphia and Bon for sure and what he does will translate filipowski felt the pressure lost the handle out of bound Utah they looked really confident coming out but they have uh felt the pressure and Sean Sheldon I think he’s feeling a little pressure himself as he walks back to his seat now he’s back up three straight turnovers for the Jazz give pH credit their game plan is exactly that putting pressure on the Jazz Edwards back out front dton nine on the shot clock they switch Hendrick out Bona screens space floater comes up short Kowski try to pull down the rebound touched Last by Bona and the Sixers I like the battle down there though I know Kyle Kowski struggling a little bit on defense but sometimes you have to forget about that do other things like what he’s doing on the defensive end just let the game come to you on the other side Jazz have yet to score in the second quarter and that Ball’s out of bounds Walker has a talk with filipowski a 0 start for the Sixers here in the second ke from the corner steps to his left a wide open look from three Utah has missed eight of their last nine shots as McCain goes to work and runs it down the Baseline to Edwards chased by CER Bon’s open gave it up good ball Movement by the Sixers patient Bona off his hands picked up CER has it and back comes Utah the other way Kapowski still cannot hit a three now 0 for eight from downtown block nicely by Hendricks see the Jazz can’t get something off that block shot keante backs it out got a whistle away from the ball nice job by Taylor hendri saving that play you seen him do some nice things offensively right here helping his teammate out that’s his second block of the night kler has one and Taylor could be a really good healths side shot blocker so a delay of game technical foul in Philadelphia will put D at the [Applause] line dton sneaks it in played at Rhode Island 27 years of age so keante puts Philly at the line nowski again he made the point where he’s been has had an impact has been rolling inside and finishing on top of the rim yeah he’s not settl no [Music] he’s using his IQ nice rebound there to start the break but beautiful move toer running it downhill Corner three Hendrick Bowski kept it alive call your backs it out 610 to play in this first half and a seven on the shot clock got to hurry filipowski runs out of [Applause] time so a timeout at the six minute Mark we’ll come back with Justin zanic the GM of the Utah Jazz on ESPN 2 all right so they’re going to keep it here and we will talk to Justin in a moment so that clock hit six and they decide to keep it here to Bona and the Sixers in doubt everybody was walking off the floor but they say play on downtown Billy’s execution has been excellent Jaz tried to push it here to get something [Music] early now we’ll step aside Sixers by six 535 to play in half number one by six with 535 to play in the first half want to welcome in Justin Zan call him z uh the general manager of the Utah Jazz Justin it’s great to see you and I I just pulled you away from Will Hardy uh Jeff hornek and Danny a you guys are eyeballing this you’re probably grateful for that they’re actually they’re always great to work with talk about this this draft that just was completed I mean the last two years have been remarkable and a lot of that talent’s on the floor right now learning how to play together and getting into that NBA kind of shape what do you see yeah so summer league is chaotic a little messy um but it’s a chance for these guys to really feel a great NBA arena one of the best in the league you know they get nervous um knowing where to be got a new coaching staff is with all our great assistants they’re putting stuff together and you’re learning how to play together so it’s not going to look pretty at times but what it’s really important is to get some tape for the coaches and for them to see some of the things that they need to do defense like here um and then putting guys in different situations and seeing what we need to work on after summer league and getting them as ready as possible to really compete in training camp and Z what about the guys who have been there before keante Walker Kesler Kay Hendricks um I like that mix of like new guys and guys who can show them things but what are you looking for the next step out of some of the names I just mentioned I think just continued development and the more these guys can play with each other gives them a chance I mean we believe that young guys should try to play as much as possible in whatever form that is is that summer league is that the G league is that minutes in the rotation um and you know it’s different than pickup these are you know with rusts and intensity and nerves and um it’s not like your local lot you’re going down to play you know so uh for them to feel that and especially with the rookies uh being able to be with our great fans and feel this environment it’s an unbeli I think it’s the best summer league in the league just because of the support we get from our fans yeah they always show up nearly 8,000 a night here or more tonight it’s it’s fun to see and you feel that energy talk about Walker Kessler you know a third-year guy usually doesn’t play in summer league but it’s good to see him on the floor for at least two games and talk about his progress he he had an early injury last last year found itself found himself hard to get back in that starting rotation got some minutes but this is a big year for him it is and it’s uh it’s a big year for us with him too in terms of him developing chemistry with Keon and a lot of these young new players that we have um he’s an important part for us and so I think he’s really he’s always been able to fly on the court what you just saw and his conditioning and his strength guys forget that he’s still only in 23 it’s not even though we’ve seen a lot of him like there’s still great gains that he can continue to make with his body he’s done some unbelievable work this summer and I’m really proud that he uh wants to get out here and play it’s not only just with Keon but it also shows leadership with the younger rookies coming in that he can develop relationships with them and spend time with them and you know getting a chance to play as much as possible with bigs you know that the possibilities to play it’s a little harder so I’m really glad that he decided to play and we’re happy to have him I’m going to talk about once you talk about K Williams great find obviously in the draft yep uh he’s got some some basketball DNA in his blood uh talk about his potential as he can grow on this team I mean his positional size he already has very good feel of how to play off teammates even if I mean he’s one of the youngest guys in the draft he’s not even 19 yet so he’s got some ability to make some great games with his body um but even even if he’s at a strength deficit his rookie year his ability his speed and uh fluidity um I think you can help immediately on the defensive end in moving the ball and then continue to work on the skill development and guys that can be a true three a true Wing in the league with positional size just saw Keon with a confident jumper there Justin he’s got eight points in this game uh you brought in three new faces just a few weeks ago just going to start with Isaiah CER so intriguing to me number one high school recruit played at USC with Ronnie you take him at 29 and he’s got that body that really has to be intriguing yeah the body and also you know he likes the path um he’s got toughness with him he wants to help him learn to run a team which is different in college than it is in the NBA um the only thing that’s in commmon is that our team is about the same age as a college team um but learn sets and learning how to play off guys uh he’s really good in transition um he can get in the paint whenever he wants and then just improving as he gets to know his teammates his decision making his reads those angles they’re a little the windows are a little smaller in the NBA than they are in college it’s just a different space port so it’ll be a transition for him but he’s already got a lot of tools where he could immediately contribute and a part of and when I say contribute contribute to his teammates at whatever level that is welcome back inside Delta Center Philadelphia has owned the second quarter they outscore the Jazz thle 18-10 and the lead is 3629 it’s been a balance attack by Philadelphia thus far and a more aggressive one I think uh the execution has been great and I think the Jazz need to really tighten up on their rotation defensively especially their close outs on those threes by Philly Sean Sheldon the head coach of the summer league for Utah made a very clear when they practice they have this up on the board Jazz dead last and defense a year ago three-point defense last and also the Jazz just need to take care of the ball they they will they the youth will hurt themselves at times uh with unforced turnovers yeah and it comes with you right I mean it’s kind of synomous [Applause] council and he hurt the Jazz with that triple but you got to have a very short learning curve in this league guys like right now see V putting all the pressure on Keon George Walker’s trying to just to screen him out for some Freedom bounce past Baseline basley lost it off his hands unforced turnover Jones tries to drive it down the highway Bradley denied at The Rim good hustle back by Utah sends the ball you heard the whistle as they jump across midcourt [Music] not sure what the foul call was on the break there well they going to say it was on Council right there right at midcourt as a jazz were making the push across midcourt at three by keante short Council leaks sound he’ll take a deep triple in hits wow back to back fre Council pushes that lead now to 11 Philadelphia’s at five of six in the quarter the Jazz 0 for four make that 0 for five on the three by Cody Williams or the attempts as HT across midcourt Aluma inside and the Jazz bench jumps to a applaud the effort as sah got back was that’s the second three Council really confident after that first one and then right SS the ball sacrificing that body take that offensive foul Council had the 29 opening night against OKC cooled quite a bit last night 7 points in all against the Grizzlies George back to work in the paint he’ll shoot two the foul whistled right at the free throw line RJ Hampton whistle for the [Music] foul sir one more for keante hey you can make a difference and help ensure elections are safe fair and efficient get in the game step up to volunteers a PO worker ahead of election day no will be here before you know it and that means another NBA season is ahead it is a US bowler it goes by fast playoffs takeing end June and then right then after the title won by Boston you go to draft night free agency summer league moves on to Las Vegas this weekend Hampton shut down by basley out front basley jumps in for the rebound Aluma had a good look wide [Music] open Luma has had moments here in Salt Lake he played overseas last year in the Korean basketball league trying to find a spot keonte George lost that ball Council the bounce and some Showtime buckets here on the Delta Center floor it’s been the decision making on the Jazz end I think they need to move that ball around Philly doesn’t really have to play a lot of Defense Jazz are playing off the dribble quite a bit as another instance but right sens B makes it [Music] work Cals down this [Applause] crew and a big shot to end the first half but Utah outscored in the second quarter 26- 15 turnovers of problem for the Jazz 133 points scored off 12 turnovers and Philadelphia takes advantage counil and the Sixers lead by 10 at [Music] halftime yeah little got make sure you take a jacket you know no it’s it’s amazing the heat coming through through the west and the Southwest so both team start the same starting five that we saw earlier well the advantage has gone to the aggressor and that’s been the Philadelphia 76ers making the Jazz cough it up continuing to put pressure now kind of in a spread Zone ker comes out to H keante and again there’s a reach in and a foul on the first possession that’ll be W with his fourth personal foul I think you made the point to you it’s got to be ball security it was an issue for the Jazz most of last season when the Jazz decided to go youth yeah that’s right the match up zone right here trying to work off kler finding those gaps there’s one slip it inside pass got to finish Williams had the look he’s now 0 for three from the floor [Music] B comes out the screen opens up some space inside nicely done the Jazz deny Keon blows by McCain here’s Walker CER and Bona chased him down but able to finish Bon actually got a piece of that ball but Walker had enough momentum for that thing to crawl in McCain pushes up the shot of the fre throw line bonus one pump oh he had just a g me couldn’t get it to drop and kler has owned the board that’s nine rebounds well he still got the Kesler effect down there that ball almost went in but Walker does a great job 3 second violation there defensive violation there on Bon yes sir nice run by Walker be it down the court gets a little help technical free throw good by [Music] keante Walker broke a smile after that shot still talking to Bona about it crosscourt pass on that inbound Williams back out to George got ball strip Walker right place right time saves it here comes s ball with a floater up and out tapped up no Justin Edwards holds it down J get a bucket on that play but I like the [Applause] execution bench wants continuation yeah they do not going to get it [Music] though but you have to be impressed on the pace of the 76ers I mean they’re getting that ball down the court trying to get their early shots Jazz wanted to play a high Tempo game as well right now the more physical team looks to be Philadelphia as Keon George think reaches over and picks up the foul and when you can bring that physicality on both ends not just the defensively trying to make the Jazz cough it up but just going right at him on the offensive end as well yeah you get something special and that’s again what Sean Sheldon and of course Matt brzy both told us two summer league head coaches look you know it’s got to be two-way right great teams become Champions with that type of Defense Boston Prov that out that’s right that’s right when you’re trying to build a team you’re trying to find guys who can don’t understand that dton puts down his 10th point of this game really it’s a delay of game on this one Council also with 10 Philadelphia by nine their largest lead 12 Utah started really impressive strong up seven then the turnovers began to pile up George and hris out front shot clock winds down to five turnar around jump shot hits the rim rebound McCain and phly is running Kessler nice job hustles down they asked him to run the floor as hard as he can on both ends sends the off to three had a good look at it nice transition on the break nice kick out the ball is two of nine T over for four from three Williams Bona theone sixer there to rebound yeah against not having to work a lot on that play kind of stayed on the right side of the [Music] Court making the jazz work on they are boy you know they they slow the tempo then they they they change speed and McCain’s very good at that as we’ve watched him these last three nights 16th pick out of Duke yeah really good guards have different gears and and especially that one where you can decelerate as you’re driving getting that defensive player on your back and giving you an opportunity to figure out what’s available in the paint stop and popped short Hendrick climbs the ladder for the rebound lowc scoring quarter 32 Utah and McCain is now 0 for six with four rebounds right s the ball he’s frustrated that double dribble right there but give the defense credit they really put pressure on the primary ball hand dton dancing pushes pushes it up just inside the free throw line dton has shown some hops this week he’s 27 as I mentioned out of Rhode Island but he has averaged nearly 17 points a game as that ball jumps out of the hands and out of bounds it’ll be Jazz ball 13 on the shot yeah Walker Kessler is telling his teammates specifically Taylor Hendricks to talk to him let him know who’s behind him trying to sneak up on the on the steel George in the paint off balance shot counted it’s a tough look it’s a tough look for Keon George nice bucket kind of floating to the right side there but the wherewithal to stay focus off this pick and roll nice eie right there stay focused on that Rim gets it to go for the potential and one now there you mentioned the Stop and Go ability and there it was you saw him stop and then push ahead three-point play and the last foul was on Council 13-point game for Keon Council attacks hands it off to former jazz Man Tony Bradley scores his first two of the summer leagy Bradley understood that Walker kler was waiting on him got that floater off inches before Walker could get thereal will try it again there is a triple he went for four got the three now Billy comes right back in a hurry you can’t celebrate long that’s the bottom line the council takes advantage SE Sheldon not happy with that play calls a quick timeout Council little showtime at Delta Center Philadelphia 52 Utah 43 on ESPN 2 bring in a jazz legend Jeff hornek had a little Philadelphia experience back in the day and then made his way to qu remind me Salt Lake City it’s great to have you Jeff of course a Special Assistant for the Jazz the the artist here from Iowa State who could shoot the the lights out from three what do you see with this young group I mean you go draft you’ve used now six picks over the last two seasons and you got to play to get experience it’s like going to the weight room and lifting well a lot of young Talent know these guys are uh you know one one year out of college and uh right now we got six of them out there that are going to be on the team so uh you know this is great for them to come out here and play and start getting some experience and you saw how it helped K last year uh Taylor a little bit and even Bryce towards the end of the year so uh they just have to continue to work uh they’ll figure out the little nuances the little tricks and that will help them as they get older but uh uh right now they’re just trying to figure it out and one you I mean you you’ve been around this game a long time and there are a lot of constants in this game what have you seen as the game has progressed and evolve some of the differences some of the nuances you just talked about that these players have to understand you know what’s a good shot what’s a bad shot that seems to be the big key now um you know you can you get a good shot probably anytime down the court you can get a decent shot can you get the best shot can you create for somebody else so um you know if you’re just going to come off pick and rolls or catch balls and try to figure out how you’re going to shoot it it’s not going to help the team you know you got to get in the lane kick it out to another guy now it’s it becomes a wide open shot and that’s that’s what they do in practice every day all day they take thousands of shots so um try to make it easy on yourself and uh you know I think that’s going to be the biggest key in today’s game cuz it’s a it’s a wideopen game it’s like a giant pickup game um you know you got to be able to shoot the ball you know Jeff you just said the magic words a pickup game because at times it’s what it feels like you know a lot of athletes on the floor and we turned the clock back to your day and the head coach of the Jazz of the time the late great Jerry Sloan you know the the the player was seasoned they came out of college almost ready and the more more maturity now you’re faced with kind of rolling the dice and taking a chance to see what he will mature into and what kind of player will he be mentally and how much passion he has for this game well I think that’s the biggest key is they’re they’re 19 years old they come in this league um you know we had occasional Michael Jordan or Patrick y probably still even played two or three uh years in college and you knew how to play you were mature your body was you know uh kind of that man Jo and uh it was just in one or two years you could tell if the guy is going to be a a great NBA player now coming out in 19 it’s going to take you know four or five years uh before you really know if he’s going to be that Superstar guy right it takes a while in this league and um that’s the way the league is going you know with a lot of these young kids who have a ton of talent uh but it’s those little things that they’re going to learn in year two and year three and then by year four all of a sudden the game slows down for them uh they’re not rushing on stuff they see the floor they see all the uh different defenses that come against them and it just becomes easier for him I’m really interested in your cuz you were such um you were such a great player but your three-point shot was deadly and this game has really evolved into that being sometimes even more important than other shots right what have you seen maybe development wise as you’ve been and watched some of these jazz players how important is is it for these guys to understand that you’ve got to be able to be consistent from that long range well yeah I mean that I think it comes again down to which shots are going to be good which ones aren’t that a perfect you know Isaiah made a great move there and instead of trying to take a little 15-footer he kicked it to a wide open tailor that’s that’s how you become a good team and uh uh you really help your players but the development of three-pointers you know they they shoot him every day so there’s a lot of that uh uh there we go but uh I I think it’s the practice where guys are actually challenging your shot yes you know if you’re just shooting open shots all the time yes you’re going to get one or two a game maybe that are wide open but most of the time you’re going to have a guy running at you and the hand is going to be almost right there in your face and you got to learn how to shoot with with that uh pressure uh you know that the coaches do a great job our coaches they run it players when they shoot um you know that’s that’s a lot of repetition where you don’t even notice that hand you just take Philadelphia fans probably want you to leave we want you to stay because the Jazz have actually made a run back it’s a fourpoint game Jeff it’s great to see you my friend and uh it’s great to see you guys we’ll see you soon in in Training Camps just around the corner now you kicking me out H yeah I got to go thank you Jeff oh jeez well a 10-3 run manufactured by the Jazz thanks to Jeff yeah what to say he wanted to stay 5955 Sixers had a 12-point lead now a ball game with 226 left in the third you know it’s amazing if you keep the possession and then open up space and run the floor and that’s what Philadelphia did T just to open up their lead of 12 hasn’t found a way to match that energy that he brought early in this game on both ends of the Court here’s dton Baseline jumper that’s silky smooth nice shot dton on a Rhode Island and he’s put together a strong tournament man 16 and 12 points the average already again 14 tonight we’re talking about a well traveled guy 27 years old like you mentioned before that knows how to play knows his role doesn’t try to go too far outside of it deante George now now the threes are finding their way down it was start the three-point Blitz was started by Hendricks those two have combined for 31 and then CER upset with his defensive play and he reaches in I’m a little upset too well not really but I thought that was a nice aggressive move by ker Vante Pat right leg forward three over the three-point line shot I like the aggressiveness of ker keante George takes the [Music] seat Hendrick reaches up high to rebound the Jazz with a chance to tie or take the lead bounce pass finds his way to Hendrix spins down at the paint is filipowski sends the ball resets the Jazz spread out the floor there is space to work with Philadelphia nice job they fill up the lanes they get the steal Sims on a runner to the rack and call your fouls and we’ll put Philly at the line and that turnover there will speak to the decision making that Bryce Sall has to learn right you got really three guys collapsing on that penetration dribble You’ got to look up you got Guys open just maybe one or two dribbles too many but he’ll learn [Applause] Sims will get one more summer league action yeah it’s going to move down to Vegas starting Friday on NBA TV ESPN will join in and the ESPN app four matchups Cavs magic Kings and Grizzlies and of course you’ve got the Rockets and the Lakers bronny will bring a lot of eyeballs and the hawkson Wizards uh that is home to the one number one and number two pck of the draft just last month sends the ball and one he looks to the sky and says finally and great decision right there didn’t take as many dribbles to get in that paint had the defender back on his feet nice turnaround fade away right here one two stop spin rise splashed nice job by Bryce sensal Aluma his second foul Jazz can cut it to one and they do 6362 final minute of the third quarter 13 for [Music] senah DT Baseline Philadelphia crisp with the passing that ball jumps out of bounds with eight on the shot clock they made the jazz work defensively there I like Philly moving the ball around but Jazz did a great job of staying in sink with that ball [Music] movement inbound pass short on three here comes just a breakaway CER saw sah and it’s the first lead for Utah since 1614 and now the turnover by Philadelphia and the Jazz feeling some Rhythm and building some confidence late in the third so they’re feeling a lot of love here in this Arena those kind of plays right there kind of bounceback plays especially for right Sensa but there’s a lot of energy in this building and the Jazz are taking advantage of it Utah all the way back from 12 and one again attack is the flavor of the moment as CER gets a hand up that’s a great finish for an undersized guard caria takes that bump right there from Aluma and finishes that shot Kev picks up his third personal foul and will put CER at the line CER had one point at halftime and looking to make it nine here yeah coach Sean Sheldon has to be pleased with this kind of recovery and bounce back spins it in 8 point second 8-point third [Applause] quarter the Jazz have now outscored Philly in the third quarter [Music] 33-9 down right here got no aggression going on bouncing back Philadelphia for three Jaylen Sims Sims has put down 11 points including three triples and a game is brewing in Salt Lake City the Salt Lake City summer league finale Utah up by one on the 76ers back after the break Paula when you’re struggling as a team you need someone who can bring you together and Keon George has really been that guy especially in the third quarter setting the tone making great decisions right there just taking his time playing at his own pace decelerating getting players on his back but the Jazz needed some life needed some energy they needed some aggression Keon George leading the charge he’ll start their fourth quarter on the bench Utah over the last four minutes manufactured a 22- 10 run and now the question is who will it be in this quarter with keante on the bench I think klier can be one of those guys he got a foul right there but that can get 10 so you got to stay aggressive trying to keep an eye on Jared McCain scoreless thus far he’s 0 for six from the floor the Kane’s average nearly 14 points a game in the first two contests and the Jazz have been able to Corral him a bit that shot missed picked up PA you’re now pH lowski rolls he’s got the ball but through his hands that was a good look too leowski is not quite ready for it a little anxious to catch a go couldn’t paral it but a good look by C 17th turn over by Utah just seven by Philadelphia that Paul jumps out call your bumps brings it in front Court Cross Court pass basley dribble drive inside left hand boy he put a little spin on that shot finishes strong that was beautiful but credit K KY filipowski getting to the next play turned it over but got back got the poke out for the steel basley was seven Off the [Music] Bench 69 66 Utah Baseline jumper good wow that’s tough shot that s for 10 from the field beautiful pull up off the drible 16 points right at his nearly right at his Summer League average there’s filipowski looking for a three ball oh boy it was down and just jumped right back out I like the fact that he’s looking at it still you get that kind of look and Rhythm you got to take Bon he just has an impact the physicality he brings call here for three spins it sweet shot a great find by sens ofall as well again you catch that ball in [Music] Rhythm just a great feel coming off those fingers 12 points for Isaiah CER the number one high school recruit who went off to USC Aluma drove it inside missed the Gimme got it up pumped back block filipowski Bona got it back Edwards now into the paint Bo you talk about scramble Philadelphia staying with it that ball jumps in and the first bucket scored by McCain ja played about 22 seconds with a great defense that time we’re tied at 72 with 7 minutes to [Music] play McCain can create he goes Baseline misses that spinner Outlet pass just pass the outstretched arm of Cody Williams not a bad idea just a little too far for Cody to track it down phip passing is going to stay on the floor Kessler joins him with Hendricks and keante [Music] George Edward jumps it HRI here for the rebound Williams open Cody Williams not able to find it tonight gone Goose EG three over for four three and over for seven overall Jazz happy to find him a number number 10 in the draft Walker big fell going to run it to the rack and two hands it down Gessler reaches in for the steel 12 rebounds four assists and four points for the seven seven footer and that’s a big deal out on the floor like that taking the risk using that body those long arms to get that fast break done has by a bucket to lowski takes it away he ripped that ball out of the hands of David Jones here’s Hendrick he takes a bump of the [Music] back the the young players of the Jazz are figuring out this is a physical league for sure we’ve got a timeout down the stretch we go as big Walker Kessler runs it to the rim Jazz by a bucket with 534 left Trail by seven they LED early pardon me they tra by 12 they LED early by seven and then exploded for 33 points in the third now Hendrick will try to add to that two-point [Applause] lead really like what Taylor Hendricks brings and his his next step is is to be more consistent at it and I mean on both sides of the ball he’s done a great job some of the switches making it difficult for Philly offensively just being in the right place at the right time the right shot Sixers with Council that’s been his shot of this summer league comes up short Cody Williams open space in the paint off it comes he had that he had that right on Target but his struggles continue he’s missed now 15 of his last 16 dating back to last night I like I like the aggressiveness though right you’re not afraid to take it in there on a guy like Bona used that finesse move almost had that bucket but I like that he St with [Music] it Hendrick got hot in the third quarter from that corner spot Walker tries the screen to help open up Keon step back triple we’ve seen that quite a bit bow last year during the regular season saw him mature and being and being consistent with that shot off the dribble off the first action and rising up and knocking it down minz as a jazz try to stiffing up on defense that ball out of bounds five on the shot oh they’re going to call a foul they will they did call a foul deante right here on the first action nice crossover step back beautiful look for the young fell the foul was whistled by the rookie on of Colorado Cody Williams [Applause] [Music] oh you can make a difference in helping sure elections are safe fair and efficient in your community all you need to do is get to the game and step up to volunteer as a pole worker ahead of Election Day first week of November NBA season starts middle of October pre-season first week of that month Boy Summer moves fast it does and Vegas awaits for 10 days of the basketball more development opportunities and we’ve got a we got a timeout and we’ll step aside yes a challenge has been made 7874 Utah we’ll be back discussing the play here’s what the the challenge is about o that right leg of keante did kick out you know the when we talked to Monty McCutchen about this about the space The Landing Zone you have to take into consideration T and it’s for all players what kind of shot do they take how much do they lean some just have a natural that’s the word you know lean into their shot and so I think that’s why it’s taking quite a while Keon’s on the line like he’s ready to shoot he knows what the call is going to be but I’m not so sure cuz we are in summer league these officials are trying to get it right as well and that right leg did kick out and make contact with the defender so we’ll see here we go after review Jones goes into George’s and it’s a natural shooting drift therefore this is an unsuccessful challenge you said the magic word natural the call on the floor stands will lose their timeout and their ability to chance for the remainder of the game all right so the lose their timeout and we’ll look at it one more time as Matt brz’s getting an uh an explanation of that decision but again is this his natural motion or did he kick it out to draw that fou wow that is a tough tough call yeah it’s kind of subjective right it and it it speaks to individual players because for another player maybe it’s not natural but um yeah that’s the task of the officials to try to figure that out and see some players like yourself you go straight up and down yeah other players will lean into their shot and almost fall forward yeah in this era you get more players that are their natural land is kind of kicking out but looks like keante knew that before the call was made he’ll get three he makes two the Jazz lead jumps to six with 422 to play Deon George now a 25o night he’s taken advantage of free throws in this summer league you remember he put 17 down against Memphis on Monday and tonight George is nine of 10 from the strike what I like his shot selection better than that first game thought he was trying to overdo it just a little bit early tonight great job 7 for 12 overall George puts it on the floor jumps it a little bit short nice rebound up high David Jones rips it down play his college ball with Memphis Ricky Council beatable throw down Philly comes up short Aluma right on the rim I really like counsil the fourth I like one the size of his body he’s got a great basketball body but he’s so aggressive with it gets into that paint just a nice dump down to Aluma you can tell he’s got some seasoning to him he played 32 games for Philadelphia last year a team that finished seventh in the East lost a tough first round match up with New York four four games to two B senal returns darus basley checks out 15 for C Ball basley’s another one of those guys who knows what he has I’ve been impressed with him especially on the defensive end just with his athleticism has some great blocks in that first game especially with a smaller lineup end without Walker Kessler just does a nice job of picking his spots on the offensive side Aluma six points and 15 minutes of play driving scoring keante that’s maturity there gold he has scored keante the last eight for the Jazz Ricky Council on a drive and a bucket we just got done talking about you talked about his maturity the opportunity he’s had to prove himself in this league nice little fade back continuation on the shot takes the bump takes the hit all the arms has the focus to get that ball where it needed to be indeed that’s a veteran play it is for sure a confident driver misses the three-point opportunity jumps out of bounds it’ll be Jazz possession 309 left 8377 Utah and I like the position coach Sean Sheldon’s putting keante in right floor General leading the charge we talked about it a little while ago before the quarter Walker decides to roll it home inside Lefty hook short rebounds puts it back up and comes up short again as Bona claims the rebound I don’t know Walker missed that but I like the attempt soft touch with that shot off the hand of D Jr 18 points eight of 11 from the floor along with six assists and four rebounds Jones they’re going to call it a goal Hendrick I like the hustle was pretty though to get back but the ball on the downward flight [Music] two-point game this could be a block this could be a block now now they look to the to the big board up here and let’s see what Sean Sheldon will look back at his bench it may have gotten over the cylinder let’s see up up up tough angle to see if it had gone forward enough right now the Jazz are getting back to where they were in the first half there’s a block but they turned the ball over allowing Philadelphia to get back into this game oh there’s a foul on phly looks like jazzel retain it but you know you look at what Cody Williams has done offensively 0 for eight overall but right here a big play in this game a big stop which means you’re not worried so much about your shooting Bild you know you’ve got to do other things nice save by by him a double down Keon George oh he was patient he took the first line of pressure te and then went right onto the rim he’ll shoot two you’re watching beon out there walking up to his teammates trying to develop those leadership skills now Will Hardy I’m sure it’s the same way with Nick nurse and Philly all coaches are looking for leadership but it’s how you perform it you can talk to talk but you have to go out and and actually show what you can do and lead by example a combination of the two yeah and keante even talked about that in his interviews prior to the summer league starting talked abouty keeping his guys ready 10 straight points by George for Utah 29o night lot of time left in this game though another whistle 8581 Jazz with a four-point Advantage rcky counts to the fourth seems to be the guy from Philly in crunch time trying to keep them in and trying to give them an opportunity to win here his aggressiveness CLE Co and comp sinks it 17 points in 18 minutes on the floor [Music] [Applause] goes two for two on that trip to the line you know a bounceback game see last night we talked about the big night Monday with 29 against OKC just manufactured just seventh points last night oh what a move unable to finish but a foul you saw Cody Williams work a little magic I like it Wills in that position to figure it out long and lanky confident with his dribble nice little crossover protecting the ball going right into the body not afraid to get that hit that he knows knows is coming some important free throws here his brother Jaylen competitive as can be back home during the their youth they talked about that would have been a fun fun household absolutely crowd’s happy Cody finally got on the board with his points he’s averaged just under seven a game in the first two first point tonight and two for two on that trip minute 30 8783 Utah Council one and out as Sall grabs the re [Music] about L comes in to bump Keon stays with it laws and dribble picks it up seven on the shot tough pass to handle inside is Walker I going say an offensive foul on Walker let’s take a look here wow I I I thought I saw the left hand wrapped around aona wrapped around Walker I don’t know how that is a offensive foul maybe was something I missed could have happened before on the release as the pass came in Council breaks free to pick it up started by Hendricks here’s Bona he’ll Bounce It Down Low inside Philly trying to work the paint kler protects the lane somehow found the ball and now the Jazz have a two-on-one oh oh what a play ke how beautiful was that bowet that was some great defense well the the assist by S ball was spectacular as was the Finish 2 5.8 to play and a six-point lead well after the kler effect right here keeping it alive nice kick ahead by sensar up for keante George I see you young F beautiful play especially in a game like this two 30-point games in summer league Salt Lake City 30 Monday night 31 on this Wednesday night in so Lake City great impactful game I mean doing it the right way still getting to the line as well that is what we talk about all the time that takes a player to the next level if he can get to the line and also shoot well Pon George facilitating as well love to see it Council continues to keep Philadelphia alive with free throws and T when people ask what’s it take to be a 30 point score per night it’s about getting to the line today and if you broke it down Allstars 30 point scores are usually scoring 10 of those at the strike they are it’s just great continued development for keante and what I still feel is the most important position as we always talk about positional this basketball but that guard position especially that primary guard who has to lead the charge has so much to do has to be a multitasker and tonight we saw Keon George do it the right [Applause] way we throrough the Jazz scored 34 points in the first half with this free throw if sends the ball makes it and he does it would be a 56 Point second half yeah just a great turn around great change of pace for the Jazz D takes a quick hit that’s it fr’s going to run down as walk ker carals a rebound is 15th of the game Hendrick will finish it off and a comeback for the Utah Jazz they’ll finish two and one and their Salt Lake City summer [Applause] league they lost by 23 last night turned the ball over multiple times Trail by 12 but rally back to win this game 9385 malfunction well the officials are telling the players don’t go to the locker room J they’re looking right now they’re still 2/10 of a second up on the clock after the hris slam trying to go by the [Applause] [Applause] book b what a great game overall as well in the summer league as seems like there will be like point two or three left on the clock point four would be put in the game CL point four point four that replay right uh when Taylor put it down little formalities all you do is inbound and get to the locker room and on your way to Las Vegas well Philadelphia beat OKC Monday Night by 10 they lost a tough one last night by two and they let this game slip away with a 12-point lead they’ll they’ll leave Salt Lake City with a 9385 five lost to the hometown Jazz but a lot of hoop to play in Las Vegas yeah uh but just a nice summer league for all these teams and for the coaches who looking for the that development of their players and their teams and guys who are trying to get jobs uh what a great ending to three three days of basketball Ricky Council scored 20 Jeff dton 18 to lead Philadelphia keante George’s story with 31 Hendrick 18 and cah scores 17 those three players were the first of Danny a making some moves last year three first round picks all impacted this game tonight oh for sure for sure was great to see those guys get to know each other better work together impress the coaching staff Walker Kesler didn’t shoot that well two for seven but 15 rebounds four assists did a nice job out there especially in crunch time just protecting that basket by the way and note keante George scored 12 points in the final 5 minutes of play yeah I really like the way he played overall tonight I I I just thought in that first game got a little anxious you let’s go court side keante with a 31-point performance standing by with nio Campbell keante you guys outscored the Sixers 33 to 19 in the third quarter and that when you had that run and then you were up one entering the fourth quarter what was the mindset coming into the game into the fourth quarter yeah just keeping the foot on the gas you can you know our first game uh you know when we played Memphis you know we had that good third um and you know last night obviously didn’t go the way we wanted to uh so we just want to come out here and pick it up a little bit um you know this is the last game of you know the Salt Lake summer league and you know I’ve been here before for for most guys they haven’t and you know I kind of want to go out on a good note uh you know go off with a win going to Vegas with some momentum um I just wanted to take advantage of the opportunity um it’s all like I’ve always told you it’s a blessing to be out here to you know be in between the lines and competing so um it’s just fun to be in this atmosphere you definitely kept your foot on the gas you had 12 points in the final 5 minutes how do you uh determine your points of attack uh you know I mean credit to Chris Jones EV bradz uh really breaking down film for me um you know really helping me you know find that balance um you know some things I’m doing in the first I might set up for the second half where I’m being aggressive and and and not necessarily aggressive to score but aggressive in a way to you know make plays whether for myself or you know for my teammates so I just really wanted to um it’s honestly a winning mentality so I’m go out here and uh just compete at a high level thank you ke we’ll see you in Vegas keante George 31 hey there’s a marriage proposal my goodness marry me keante thank you bowler Bryce with the allei oop kante with with a bucket and the Jazz win 9385 [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music]
