I’ve been re-reading Golden Days, because nostalgia, and it dawned on me the number of similarities with respect to the points of tension and the resultant feelings and inner struggle to reconcile them between what led to Jerry West ultimately deciding to leave the Warriors and Klay’s departure.

By Golden Days I mean the book Golden Days: West's Lakers, Steph's Warriors, and the California Dreamers Who Reinvented Basketball by Jack McCallum.

That Klay would go out in such a similar way as the man that once threatened to quit if they traded him is one of those 'strange how life works sometimes' things.

I’m wondering what happened with the Warriors culture. Culture is everything and making cultural cornerstones feel like they are not wanted anymore just seems so off. I wonder if it’s just Lacob in the background fostering this.

True. Both were out of contract. Both were asked to take less.
Don’t forget tho, we also moved on from Mark Jackson and that was even worse! No pay-cut, we didn’t even want him.
Time will tell whether the Klay thing matters or not, but we did better post Mark Jackson and we did win one after Jerry West.
