A lot of Cavs fans need a reality check on Okoro inherent value and future on this team.

Ok what’s the future?  If they did do one of these S&Ts that are getting rumored couldn’t they only get half his salary in return? Who are we getting in the 8 million range that fits here?

Also worth noting that Okoro is 23 and DJJ is 27. Doesn’t mitigate everything, but it’s important context.

  3. Tl;dr
In the playoffs, Okoro is only an average defender and a below average offensive player. His inability to score doesn’t make up for his defensive abilities.

    IMHO
Okoro’s defensive ratings show up lower because he is often tasked with guarding the best player on the floor, which artificially lowers a player’s defensive rating. Okoro’s offensive game continues to be a bad fit (and rather mediocre) so there still isn’t a place for him a playoff rotation. That said, he is showing some improvement, just not as much as I would hope for. He’s just kind of meh.

I know he needs more time to truly develop and that may not fit our timeline, but I really want atleast one more year with our new headcoach and new system.

Yes, he is still a bit undersized to be our 3 and D wing, but it would make me sick to my stomach to see home go to another squad, be given the reigns, and really start hooping because I feel like a change of scenery is what he needs. Which is why Kenny could bring his own version of that.

These are some wild comparsions, but look at James Harden, or Victor Oladipo, or our own JA!! We killed the Nets in that trade and got our allstar center in the process. I’m not saying he’s going to become an MVP caliber player, but his work ethic, athleticism, and growth is there.

Let’s not give up on our boy! I still get goosebumps when I think about that game winner he had towards the end of a season a few years back.

  5. Tl;dr Okoro has a net DRIP (projection of a player’s contribution to a team’s plus/minus per 100 possessions) of -0.4 (-0.4 on offense and 0 on defense). For context, Finney-Smith has a DRIP of 0.3 (-0.4 on offense and -0.7 on defense) and Cam Johnson has a DRIP of 0.6 (0.9 on offense and -0.3 defense).
