man Philly knows how to celebrate a moment I mean Matt I know me and you both been around and I I I will take my hat off to that celebration um it had me feeling like Maxi was 50 it had me feeling like Maxi was going to the Hall of Fame but re what well deserved from a young man who just comes out plays extremely hard um cares about the team about the city about his teammates uh just a he’s a beautiful human being to be able to watch his journey and boy can he play and he is tremendously fast getting downhill easy man a young man to root for great attitude always a smile on his face and now part of a potentially contending Philadelphia team the Sixers of course scored the biggest prize of the free agent period with nine-time Allstar Paul George coming to Philly George by his own account very much wanted to stay in Los Angeles on his podcast PG explained the circumstances which led him ultimately to philad phelia it was a great meeting majority of the Philly front office was there at the house David Blitz came Josh Harris Elton BR Dr J bro I had Dr J in my crib that’s crazy shout out Peter Den witty darl Mo just an organization that was like man you’re our guy we believe in you we want you here with Joelle Tyrese together my family felt it I felt it it just felt like all right this is where I’m going to spend the next chapter of my life they sold the city they sold the team the organization the fit it was just like an opportunity I couldn’t pass up what did you want to hear from the Sixers I think it was just the idea of playing with and Joel just a fresh start new opportunity I was pretty open on the conversation stuff was kind of at a stale with clippers and ultimately it was it was more so just the idea of one of the best young point guards in the league and one of the best if not the best big in the league based off the meeting I did feel like this is where I’m supposed to be this is who I’m supposed to play so here’s what the 76ers look like right now with George slotted in the three spot in the starting lineup Caleb Martin just signed on as well um again they’ve got their big three in place that’s tough to do under today’s collective bargaining agreement the way the salary cap is set up right now is this team good enough to challenge Boston I I think challenge but I think this team you know unfortunately for them is there’s no margin for error I mean there somebody can’t get hurt um they don’t look deep enough right now that depth chart we just showed man I love Caleb Martin and Kelly ubber they fit extremely well whe they’re coming off the bench or starting but I just started looking at it um they don’t go nine deep they don’t go eight deep I love the drumming pickup because of you know the health of a Joel embiid you know you can have him play 30 to 40 games and he’s a servical big that can come out and rebound and play hard but I’m looking for something else they need another shooter they need another big that’s versatile that’s like 610 that wants to play I would say 45 versus 34 um so I think they’re they’re not done I hope they’re not done to be able to get over the hump this is a team I think could get to the Eastern Conference Finals but I don’t think that depth chart could win the Eastern Conference to me the shooting and the depth Stand Out particularly in light of Joel embiid’s history and everyone hopes he can stay healthy for the season but that just hasn’t been the case very often and and I think um it’s a great fit this big three the way Maxi plays U Paul George they still need another guy that can create their own in the half court situation and then MB when in healthy we see these numbers they are just unbelievable but I I I mean I thought the way he was going last year that the first 30 or 40 games I hadn’t seen a guy dominate um This Much from a center spot I mean he was getting 30 in 22 minutes I mean he was getting 40 in 29 minutes but they need some more depth because I think they need some more shooting they also need some more sides I think at their power four position even though embiid put incredible numbers in the postseason he wasn’t moving well and then of course he’s playing for Team USA we’ll get into that a little later on as well maybe more on the shoulders of Jared McCain the number one overall pick 16th overall I should say their number one overall pick from duke here’s McCain going to work I like his game Sixers in Salt Lake City meeting up with OKC McCain drives aluk to Demona and one McCain 15 points six SCS three assists Philadelphia up at the break nice B second half Ricky Council the fourth goes to work you see such a huge difference Smitty between the seconde summer league guys who’ve got some NBA experience and everyone else played 32 games as a rookie and he went off in this one 29 Points confidence you can see for him 19 in the fourth quarter and Philly wins it by 10 102 to 92 of course OKC has as much upside as any team in the west the number one seed in the playoffs last season got their first playoff series win as a group with a sweep of the Pelicans before they finally bowed out in six to Dallas and this summer they used some of their considerable assets and they’ve got a ton more at their disposal to trade for the Bulls Alex Caruso and then sign Isaiah hartenstein late to the Knicks and a address their one significant weakness which was rebounding statistically OKC did just about everything but rebounding really really well with another year of experience under their belts collectively how close to the top of the West should this team be considered in terms of contending to reach the finals I I think very you know what they displayed during the regular season last year being the number one seed I thought like you said they were a little bit thin up top you know for Chad hren had to play so much at the five position now he can rotate and play a little bit for not only does hardstein bring a guy that’s with size that can rebound the basketball but the way these young guys move and cut their MO motion offense he’s a phenomenal passer as a center spot so I think that’s going to help a lot when we talked about Philadelphia I didn’t see a lot of depth I see a whole bunch of dep with OKC and let’s talk about Caruso they got better defensively than they got tougher they have a guy I like him because he can knock down shots and he just competes the whole team I think press has done a great job of the likeminded type of guys that are young that want to go out there and compete every inch I think this is an excellent pickup that’s going to be scary because they have a margin of error where they can actually sit three or four guys throughout the season and give them rest I don’t know how often they can all play together but the gauntlet of defensive-minded guards they have on this team between SGA and Cas Wallace who’s a really good Defender as a rookie last year Lou Dort the Dort NATO and now Caruso you can throw a lot of guards at the other team’s best Wing play I mean you know for the last two years Caruso and L Dort been on first team and second team defensively you don’t have to be worried about getting in foul trouble man you can go out there and get three in the first quarter you have another guy and all those guys are pretty good offensively Lou dor can knock down a shot and we know Caruso is pretty good and Wallace can score they have guys that can play they have a lot of two-way players at their small which is impressive for me watching OKC Thunder and as always remember they have about 47 first round draft just piled up laying around they’re in closets they stuff them in closets that’s how many they have uh when we return what can’t
