This feels like an intentional message to say “we value these guys and won’t trade them for your shit packages”

We can look no further than our first rebuild under Marks to see how true this is.

We dont make the kind of turnaround we do without vets like Carroll, Dudley, and Ed Davis being present, helping the young guys develop, showing them what it means to be a professional, how to maintain a work ethic, being a voice of the coaches on the floor, etc. Some people think you can just firesale off everyone older than 25, accumulate a bunch of picks, then throw a bunch of young guys out there and they’ll figure it all out. But that just is not how it works. Guys need to develop, they need guys with experience to help their transition into the league, they need guidance, they need somebody to turn to when shit goes wrong, all that. You can only get those types of things from a guy who has been in the league for some time.

Nothing wrong with moving off guys who don’t fit your timeline eventually, but you dont just trade them for the sake of it. Sell if you can get a good return for them, but don’t trade them just to trade them. They have tangible value on a rebuilding team.
