good morning Raptor Freaks Like seats here it is uh Wednesday morning and we have a game today summer league game played today by the Toronto Raptor summer league team against the Utah Jazz summer league team 5:00 P PM uh Eastern Time start so hopefully people can be ready to be there for that time at 5:00 pm today I’ve looked at the Jazz summer league roster and it’s different than it was the beginning of the summer league Walker Kessler is not playing for them anymore in summer league at this point so is keonte George is not playing for them also so there’s a couple of players that are uh you know not going to be available for the Jazz that they had earlier in the summer league so no Kessler no keonte George and uh Trevor Jay went to a a Utah Jazz Summer League game in the last two days and he said he wasn’t that impressed with them that they’re not as dangerous as we think well I still think we need to be up for them they’re one and one in their summer league record um and the one game they did win they barely won just so you know they won by like two points or something like that so looking at the Utah Jazz’s summer league team we’ve got uh basically the guy who’s kind of been around the longest is Darius basley that’s a guy who’s been in the league for like five years he’s 24 years old and uh yeah he’s been in the league for quite a while and he is the the veteran on this team he’s not been the league leading score though the draft picks for this year have been the leaders for this team in particular uh the people that are leading this team are actually Cody Williams the brother of Jaylen Williams of Oklahoma City Thunder is their leading scorer in summer league right now followed by Kyle F filipowski filipowski has been playing very well for them in summer league so far and then the third player is Isaiah Collier the other uh draft pick that the Jazz had this uh this past draft also so those are their three main guys right now Cody Williams the brother of jayen Williams the good Jaylen Williams on Oklahoma City uh Phil filipowski and Isaiah Coler and those guys are all brand new of course guys from last year that are around are like Bryce sensah uh Kenny Lofton Jr are on this team also Kenny Lofton Jr dropping a lot of weight and looking a lot more uh agile uh that coming back that he heard the the grumblings and the criticisms about him last year and well he’s done some work on his body to be in better shape this year so Kenny Lofton Jr Darius basley Jason Preston Tyler Hendricks uh Tavon Kinsey Bryce sensah ma Max aams uh Armando bot Isaiah CER Kyle filipowski kishan Justice Josh Pierre Louie babacar s and Cody Williams that’s the team right there babacar was actually on the G League ignite last year also so yeah they’re one and one and uh like I said Cody Williams is averaging 17 and a half points in two games so far for them Philip palski 11 and a half points in two games for them so yeah I’m not as worried about them without Kessler Kessler is a big problem in some ways but not really I guess if we have Carlson now so yeah Kessler’s not playing and keontay George is not playing either and those are the two best players for summer league for them so there there you go there’s a little bit of a scout on the Utah Jazz team we’re going be playing today I feel real good I feel like we should do well there’s no real word on whether uh Grady or Jonathan will be playing today from their injuries in the last summer league game uh there was a question asked by ail Austine to Jama in the uh the practice interview yesterday and he couldn’t say he said that they want he wants them to come in and shoot around this morning and uh put up shots see how they feel and then we’ll see whether Grady and Jonathan play he said they it sounded like both of them were about the same place as far as probability for the game today so I would say don’t worry about playing Grady go ahead and let him sit and some ways I’ve seen enough a Grady in summer league you don’t have to play him for the rest of Summer League if he can be helpful to beat the Miami Heat on Friday okay then we’ll go ahead and play him then but maybe today let him take the day off against Utah mobo now if he’s ra able to play go ahead and put him out there he’s he’s a young guy and in some ways if he’s just kind of hurt go ahead and put him out there I I don’t think we should worry about uh him getting further injured knock on wood because I don’t think that’s what gonna be the case with this so yeah I’m excited about the game today I am very much needing a distraction looking forward to the 5:00 pm Eastern start for this summer league game today at uh uh in Los Vegas against the Utah Jazz for the Toronto Raptors yeah they’ve had some really good practices in the last couple days Jama saying that he’s watched a lot of tape with OSI abaji in the last couple days over the first two Summer League games and they’re trying to find a good spacing for him they’re going to try and put him in the small pocket they’re going to do some other stuff they uh him going on and on about osi’s great cutting ability and how it’s topnotch and how the Raptors need to figure out more ways to utilize aag’s great great cutting ability so it’s exciting they had a nice interview with aaji himself he said you know he actually admitted he has not played up to the level that he wanted to play at summer league so far that’s that’s fine man don’t worry about it don’t be too hard on yourself you’re doing fine summer league is a little chaotic and in some ways you trying to figure out what you’re going to do with some of the other guys that just showed up and they don’t know what the [ __ ] they’re doing well it’s understandable if you’re not marking every single thing in some ways the things you’re doing aaji in this summer league is to uh you know discover more about your offense now I can tell you’ve bulked up you’re even stronger than you were last season I can also tell that you know your commitment to being at summer league right now speaks a lot for itself right there so don’t be so hard on yourself is what I would say about that they had uh who was the other interview they had yesterday I believe it was Carlson again they’ve been having Carlson come out and talk a few times Carlson very thrilled about the things that have been happening for him and getting the chances of course Jama going on about how he’s been a real surprise on the defensive end you know they knew about the threes in fact that was part of the reason why they were interested in getting them but the the blocks have been Sensational and they’re really really happy about this sometimes when you get a player like uh Brendan Carlson you’re not sure if his slender frame will translate to being able to do that kind of stuff on the higher levels well it’s timing and in some ways Carlson said yesterday that he takes pride in being a shop blocker and that this is something he’s done for the last five years for the Utah youths that it matters to him he really takes a lot of pride in this so he has a lot of uh experience knowing when to go for it and when not to and when you get in that bad Zone you don’t need to be doing it so I really like that about Carlson he’s a he’s a confident shot blocker and in some ways he understands what it takes to get a clean block without getting the foul and he also understands when to just hedge and show length and not take the block shot block so yeah Carlson’s Advanced and in some ways Brendan Carlson is showing that you know the old way of going to college for five years or four years does actually really prepare you for the NBA better than just jumping in the NBA after one year or something like that so I I’m really really appreciative of Carlson and once again he said that the Raptors were the team that took the most interest in him and that’s why he’s with us so kudos to our scouting department and our front office for making Carlson feel important because that’s part of why he chose us and in some ways other teams they dropped the ball they didn’t come see him enough they didn’t make him feel special well MSI did and that’s why Carlson’s wearing a Raptor’s Jersey some people are confused because yesterday the Raptors signed Jameson battle yes yes because I was saying this I was like last year was mohammadu year before that was Jeffrey dton Jr well in summer league so far the star that has shown the brightest to be like we need to get this guy on the team has been Jameson battle an absolute bucket uh money three a very professional player making his free throws playing at a very professional way where he’s not making a lot of mistakes I love it well he got rewarded yesterday with an exhibit 10 to be invited to our training camp to try and make our full roster if not that he will be on 905 and playing for the Raptors 905 in Miss Saga regardless good job Ohio State’s Jameson battle in some ways people were confused and the comments is like well now do Carlson I’m like wait whoa y’all are not paying attention are you Carlson’s only 2.9 Million yeah that’s a real huge pay cut from this last year’s 18 million that he made that’s crazy that’s just just how it is well Gary apparently turned down contracts from other teams for multi- years for more money he specifically chose the the bucks on purpose and he took way less money and for one year because he’s trying to fix his value and that’s smart he chose the Bucks partly because of Lillard apparently that uh he did really enjoy playing with Damen Lillard when he was in Portland with him and now he’s reunited with him there Bucks fans are very happy about this deal very very happy you got a really good three-point shooter for very cheap and it’s very lucky for y’all y’all have been losing a lot in the last year with your front office decisions and some of the dumbass things y’all been doing well this is a win for bucks Nation getting Gary Trent Jr on a very cheap contract for one year King Bolton very happy on Twitter saying now re’s only six hours away a six-h hour drive from Minnesota to Milwaukee to be able to watch Gary play yeah he’s happy about that I I gave my regards to King Bolton and saying I appreciated meeting you this past season in the arena and uh want you to tell Gary all the best and the best things for him going forward maybe when we play him he doesn’t have to play so good how about that Raptor Nation will always appreciate and honor and be very thankful for the legacy of the Trent family that senior and Jr came here and played for our team and who knows maybe one of the younger brothers of Gary Trent Jr will be on the Raptors at someday also who knows who knows those kids are coming up too Grayson and Garrison and and them but yes with in Gary Trent well it’s too bad it couldn’t be worked out with us but in some ways you know even if we had that money to do that in some ways this is this is what it was Gary needed the fit and the the Milwaukee fit is I hate in some ways that he’s a Eastern Conference rival but I also say this we’ve always beat the [ __ ] out of the Milwaukee Bucks so I’m not afraid of them I’m not afraid of them even in our state that we’re in at this point yeah yeah really really happy for Jameson battle he’s proof that if you do things the right way you work hard and you do good things in a good way you will get rewarded and Jameson battle hanging around and being around the Raptors and our organization is just smart he’s done so well in the first two Summer League games they didn’t even wait sometimes they’ll do this at the end of the summer league no you did so good we only need to see two Summer League games you get what you get that’s awesome uh Monique saying awesome practice interviews from Brandon Carlson osai and Jama of course Jamal shed justo dropped his Draft Day experience video yesterday Jama on TSN overdrive yesterday too that’s actually not what that clip is Mo you got to watch it it’s about his last year at Houston and getting uh hurt in the in the in the game there’s a lot of interviews with his father and his sister and some other family members and teammates talking about Jamal it’s a very well put together piece it’s on the level of open gym production and I think it’s awesome in some ways Jamal shed is introducing himself to Raptor Nation by putting out a very high quality production telling his story you know I went and looked more at Jamal’s college career and I found out the exact record he had at Houston he was 120 wins and 18 losses the whole time he was at Houston the four years he was there that’s a winner 120 wins only lost 18 times while he wore that Houston Cougars Jersey and more and more I’s see the parallels between him and our our point guards of the past van vet and Lowry and uh Jamal shed you are awesome with the hot streak that he’s on right now and that’s why he’s shooting so well for some I hope that’s not true I hope that he’s just this way and this is just a normal setting for Jameson battle I don’t know either way he’s getting the opportunity he’s taking advantage of it and he’s running away with it and I appreciate messiri and Bobby Webster recognizing this and rewarding him right now that um Legacy thing with his dad I you know there’s stats that people are coming out with like he had a certain amount of steals and uh three-pointers that not many players in this whole league had and the way he handles himself is the ultimate Pro it’s like he could be the template for young players to see this is how you handle yourself if you want to be a good Pro and have all kinds of things now in some ways it’s weird because it didn’t help him in this situation with what happened but it wasn’t that the way he talked or the way he acted as a professional it’s the way he played on the court and it was inconsistent so it sucks and I’m with you Infamous you know get away from clutch it’s obvious that clutch didn’t do you any favors in the last couple years Gary and that you’re in a situation where you’re gonna pay get paid three less than three million dollars this year when you should probably be in a double digits and millions yeah this is messed up and in some ways I would blame Rich Paul I blame clutch yeah because they’re your representation what the [ __ ] did they represent you to at this point that you signed yesterday that’s what I would say right there yeah Kareem saying I can’t remember a player signing a vet minimum at the T your age of 24 clutch messed him up how many players signed their best contract after signing a vet minimum I feel cheated if I it is what it is hopefully he can play in a consistent level that he can get paid correctly next summer and we’ll see if it’s the Bucks that even invested him at that point it could be it’s wide open because after the signing that the Raptors never formally offered him a deal this summer we just didn’t in some ways they had understood that like look he’s going to be not asking for a realistic all the little things that it takes to win and he’s implementing them in his DNA as an NBA player that is the kind of stuff that Lowry did and the reason why Lowry was the way low was I’m just trying to say this more and more Raptor fans Jamal shed is one of those he’s a student of the game and he cares about the little things that add up to winning that’s why he was 120 and 18 at college but yeah Toronto has never been an enemy or a problem and I don’t think it will be going forward now sure when we play the bucks he may have a little bit of get up to try and get at us to show something and that’s just a competitor that’s just somebody who wants to show that well you guys messed up when you let me go but I don’t think there’s any like malice or hate in his heart towards the fans of the Raptors towards the city of Toronto and even towards his old teammates or the organization itself so Mike’s saying next year the crop of rookies will be better we need to plan to have some open spots Fred were a very very nasty back court for defense it was really the combo of Trent Jr with Van vet that was really nasty and in some ways I think Gary got hurt this past year with Fred going to Houston in some ways he didn’t play as well in the back court without Fred around it was too unfamiliar there was a certain amount of things that Fred and Gary had worked out together to work off of each other in some ways Freddy said if uh Norm’s leaving my best friend I’m gonna start this thing with Gary afterwards his predecessor afterwards his person afterwards and get it the kind of relationship with him that I had with with Norman and well that was part of the success of Gary Trent on defense and getting all those steals in the lane and running down and getting those nice dunks well that didn’t happen as much last year because in some ways him with the other guards he was playing with whether it was early in the year with Dennis whether it was later in the year with Emanuel there wasn’t that kind of uh collaborative uh effort by the two guards on how they did things and that hurt Gary in a contract year so in some ways Freddy going to Houston absolutely hurt Gary in some ways because that combo was what looked good was Trent Jr and Van vet in the back G that is part of it right there yeah let’s see fiery saying I will miss Gary’s drip though he dressed nice and eclectic now Gary’s always gonna be a raptor Legend I want him to stay a very very positive happy person in our eyes as far as a celebrated alumni I would love to see in years years after his career style I’m G Miss certain things about him but in some ways he’s not a complete NBA player in ways that we need him to be and in some ways if he’s going to be hurt on the down low and it’s going to affect his consistency we can’t be jerked around with that Messiah and Bobby are in a position as a front office in the NBA that we have to make everything work out we can’t make mistakes and if we invest in Gary and we continue to get the Gary that we’ve got last year it’s going to be a big huge mistake so they just want to avoid it in general it is what it is it’s not that we don’t love Gary it’s not that we in an ideal world he would have had a good season and we would have very much felt like we could invest with him this Summer to continue to have him but it didn’t happen and that’s part of what I was trying to say on this channel all last year with the the night after nights when we react to games I said Gary what are you doing man you have to do better or you will not be a at Center will be nice to be a team that actually has depth at Center all of a sudden because that’s what it’ll look like if he does come back I lot of depth at Center and a lot of projects there you doing when they allocate funds long-term for players like Emanuel quickley and Scotty Barnes so that’s the thing we get value from Brandon Carlson on what he’s getting paid for where he’s coming from we get value on Alish Kay as he continues to get better and learns the NBA game that’s where we get the value and that’s where we make the improvements and move on up that’s right and uh you know these trades they’ll be worked out over time time and we’ll see exactly what we got for OG anobi and Pascal seak in the years to come that’s right that’s right Mike’s saying we got Fred for nothing he like w you lost Fred for nothing what are you talking about the time Ser the accolades the things he did in the Jersey are what the value is you expect the value to just go on and on forever no maybe we got out maybe we cut cut the stock before the stock T started to take a dip before the stock price was 43 million a year yeah I mean that’s just good management if you ask me that’s what I would single time and I’ll point to the facts that will tell you exactly that I’m right it’s just how it is that’s it smoth saying the thing with Gary is that if his three isn’t dropping he’s a negative no progression his game at all this is true you know the three was prolific and he made it but it wasn’t money it wasn’t Dependable there were so many times this year where Gary had open threes and he didn’t make them inexplicably I’m like the dude’s wide open how did he miss that what is going on with him oh his foot’s wrong he’s got plantar fitis he can’t Elevate off his foot for the first half of the season so he can’t make free throws either because that [ __ ] couldn’t make free throws in November last year I’m like why is Gary missing free throws he’s like a 90% free throw shooter in his career he’s missing free throws it’s because his foot’s messed up and he can’t live and then you see him coming at the basket attacking the basket at the beginning of the season last year he couldn’t yakum to break his isolation habits before with nurse and learn the point five passing offense of Darko rakovich but in some ways Gary was never actually a fit for the the program of Darko so the natural of Letting Go and the way it happened this summer was probably going to happen no regardless because of the way Gary likes to get the ball and score and that it’s just how it is in some ways we could say we failed him this year but sure that Darko was trying to develop him to the system that he wants to run and Gary did his best even though he hurt on the download to try and make Darko pleased and do what he said there were signs that Gary was very much trying to fit in to darko’s system even if it didn’t fit his very special most important Powers so that’s really what it is there I can’t blame the coach in the development because the coach has his own system and Gary in some ways didn’t fit it so yeah Stargate saying oh all rich is with clutch oh boy yeah I don’t like that at three and0 already uh then Memphis is third Miami is fourth Orlando is Fifth and the Raptors are sixth currently now we need to be in the top two to play for the championship so we need to win out we need to win today we need to win on Friday and we’re 4 and0 and we have two one of the two highest point differentials will play for the championship so it’s very much still a possibility we have to continue to be perfect and win by a lot of points that’s basically it right there so in some ways we can’t just win close games we have to win blowouts and possibly or double digit leads so that’s where we’re at we’re sixth in the summer league currently right this moment but we win today we could Leap Frog over the Clippers and the Spurs because they’re three and0 right now but we’re 2-0 and there are some other teams so we’re sixth currently Wayne that’s where we’re at right now uh let’s see Stargate saying at Lex my apologies for using that word wasn’t meant to be in sensive nor to and that the Pacers are trying to develop those other parts but also at the same time he can fit in with what he does really well on the Raptors too with with it already no I wasn’t trying to diss him I was just trying to say that in the system with Nick that’s what we did was that he was very heavy with isolation and that was Nick’s decision honestly so uh Mike saying it’s part on Gary Trent he wasn’t enough to get to the next level with his passing but I think Nick’s system wasn’t great for a beginning passing guard based on the way Nick liked to play well he really didn’t do him any help really didn’t need to do that we are so loyal and die hard for you and in some ways dear it was destructive what you did and in some ways if you want to make it right with us we’re fine we’ll do that but in some ways also you’re losing me to an extent over time like we see you this year when we play the Kings it’s not going to be the same as how I felt in other times when we play against you I’d actually root for you when you were on the Spurs against us when you’re on the Bulls I didn’t anymore so yeah it is what it is it’s a weird situation with Demar de Rosen that’s for sure uh Wayne saying Gary had no lift even before his foot issues last year we saw many Breakaway plays Gary flubbed sometimes he could have passed to a more open layup and he didn’t do the right play skill C is to Nick I’m gonna say this Scotty made the jump last summer and Nick left him high and dry before the end of the season so can we say that Scotty’s leap to an All-Star last summer was partly because Darko showed up all of a sudden and maybe he changed Scott and helped him become what he came last year I’m not willing to give Scott uh Nick credit for this I’ll give Brian Makin more credit for what’s happened with Scott and Scotty himself and Darko and the switch and how much he made a leap last summer that’s what I always say in some ways you can’t say this cool cat because in the summer after his rookie year Nick wasn’t there helping him he was with us on Twitch and that is a big difference right there that’s right uh Nick nurse is just specific spefic on what he wants the entry skills for the players hard to change his mind he loves Scotty and Koko he loved the original bench mom if he love Koko so much why the [ __ ] did he [ __ ] up his rookie career so bad yeah yeah Nick did on their offseason questions and you know what they didn’t sewer us too bad I was expecting to be in the 20s of course but we’re actually above the Bulls which is awesome they’ve got us 24th out of 30 they say our notable editions are Jacoby Walter Davon Mitchell and Garrett Temple are notable departures Jaylen McDaniels and Gary Trent Jr Toronto committed a ton of future money including 224 million over 5 years to Scotty Barnes and 175 million over 5 years to Emanual quickly but aside from that it’s been a relatively quiet free agency for the Raptors they’re still in the early stages of their rebuild after dealing away seaka and anobi last season and will be leaning heavily on internal development this fall backup point guard Davon Mitchell whom Toronto traded for prior to free agency was the team’s biggest veteran pickup this summer I don’t know if this is all true and once again ESPN’s only looking at the free agency they’re not talking about our draft and that’s where they should probably be talking about the draft was really the place where we hit the Home Run that’s for sure all right let me see is there anything else oh there’s birthdays today guys once again it
