Gary Trent Jr. Signs With Bucks as Lakers Remain Stuck. Plus, Jaylen Brown and Bronny.

Gary Trent Jr. Signs With Bucks as Lakers Remain Stuck. Plus, Jaylen Brown and Bronny.

For much of the offseason, the inability of the Lakers to make anything happen with the roster has been a point of frustration for fans. But then again, there were always extenuating circumstances. Contextually, the Lakers either couldn’t offer the right role, the right money, or the right role with the right money. They lack trade pieces teams seem to want, which isn’t exactly a great defense of the front office but does explain the inactivity. The Lakers also don’t have a ton of draft capital to toss around, either.

Put it all together, and you get Gary Trent Jr., a quality floor spacer, decent defender and probably the best remaining free agent on the market signing in Milwaukee for the veteran’s minimum without the Lakers even seeming to get involved. Of all this offseason’s misses, this one probably bothers Lakers fans the most.

The Lakers are apparently so boxed in, they can’t even make a play for a good player at the lowest possible financial commitment. How did this happen? What can be done about it?

They preached patience at the trade deadline, looking towards the summer. Now they’re preaching patience in the summer, looking towards the regular season and the deadline. Not ideal.

Bronny’s contract obviously takes up a spot. Would the Lakers have had the foresight to give the 55th pick a 2-way deal in a non-Bronny year?

Finally, Jaylen Brown seemed less-than-impressed with young James so far, getting caught by lipreaders watching him play in Vegas. Brown thinks Bronny will be with the big club all year, because that’s what dad wants. This, as opposed to the G-League. Is he right?

  1. He played with Dame in Portland for 2,5 seasons. I think his decision to go to Milwaukee is more about that than not wanting to play with the Lakers.

  2. FUNNY ALL THE TALK AMOUNGST LAKERS HOW LEBRON "RUINED" US AND
"NOBODY" WANTS TO PLAY WITH HIM….YA'ALL GOT GROUP AMNESIA__
BEFORE BRON GOT HERE "REMEMBER" HOW WE LIVED THROUGH THE
LUOL DENG ERA OF LAKER BASKETBALL….
(funny how "hate" can cloud a man's thinking and reasoning and judgement)

  3. Why all this crying behind Gary Trent Jr? Totally understand Klay or Demar both all stars , big time NBA players folks have seen carry a team..but Gary trent jr?
What actually has he done in the NBA to warrant this reaction?..did Toronto make the playoffs in the 2 plus yrs he was there? What about Portland?
He isn't even a 3&D guy if he was, he would have been signed two weeks ago..
Bucks wanted to replace Beasley..Trent Jr played with Dame, Doc rivers is there, he gets to start..doesn't have to deal with the pressure Lakers fans put on their players..score 30 on Monday in a win your a star..Score 10 the next night in a loss trade the bum!

  4. I'm starting to feel they didn't plan on making any move in the 1st place. It's starting to feel like the problem with the Lakers is the owner is as bad as the GM. Neither knows what their doing. And Jeannie is only concerned with not spending money.

  5. Good
Last thing we needed was another terrible defender

All you people upset about this are crazy. You recognize the name and that's what you want
Even though All of you have known for years that he isn't even that good anymore

  6. It's worth noting that the Bucks didn't need to give GTJ a player option for a 2nd year… The Lakers are only in this position b/c they gave player options to Wood, Reddish, & Hayes last yr. The GTJ signing just illustrates how this is something other teams don't do… While it's not a major mistake (like the Russ trade), it's just one of many small mistakes (like not giving 2nd rd picks 3-yr. deals in the past) that add up to put the Lakers in the position they are in now; basically death by a thousand paper cuts.

  7. Lakers don't need another guard. He averaged less then 2 assists in 30 min per game. So, he's not a playmaker. Nothing changed. Delo and a first for a big. Oh Yeah, no team wants Russell.

  8. Were people not watching Cam before the injury??? He was locking up the likes of KD, PG, and Kawhi. He was not a bad player🤦🏾‍♂️

  9. This the lakers roster. FO dug its own grave and lebron help them save little money under the 2nd apron. Look at the bright side, half this roster will be gone on expiring contracts! Including lebron. What I be worried if this year doesn’t go well, AD ask for a trade if he sees this FO not serious/ and or incompetent.

  10. Brian is right; the Lakers are in a box with seven players who range from non-playable (Cam) to maybe playable (Dalton). i call it the Pelinka box.

  11. In my career we have offered high profile Executives special perks, bonuses and incentives to hire or retain them! That's how I perceive Bronny draft. We want LBJ and that's part of the retention offer. If we want a certain CEO or CFO and they asked us to also hire their recent grad child as a clerk, done deal. It's just the price of star shopping and happens everyday.

  12. More pelinka incompetence the Lakers are stuck with 7 unplayable or barely playable players on guaranteed contracts

    Reddish, wood, hayes

DK, bronny, Max lewis and JHS

The team is stuck until some players are gone
