This is just more gap filling for another, rough year ahead. The money is good but Bassey with that missing knee he's just, there…. AND that's wild that he won't be even usable till mid-season smh
Bassey reminds me of kenneth faried. An energy guy that blocks shots, cleans the glass, and finishes at the rim. Hopefully he can stay healthy man beyond ecstatic that we finally resigned Mamu also
This is indeed an excellent news as nobody in the current free agency (at the PF and C) can provide what we have seen in April from Mamu. He comes on court with so high energy. Mamu will never be the best NBA player but we have the impression that he plays as if his future was depending of. I think that it is why we can see so many Spurs fans being delighted that Mamu is back. And it is important for Spurs' organization to listen and understand fans' desires.
For Bassey, I have never seen him playing… almost… What will be his level after two years not playing ?? and what about another injury ?? Do the Spurs need a player who you cannot count on ?
For Zach Collins, the 47% at 3 just represent less than 3 points per game (0.8). He just chose to shoot opened shots (1.8 attempts after all-star versus 3.1 before). The main problem with Zach Collins is not the offense (average) but his defense (terrible). The opponents are targetting him when Wemby is out. It is why the Spurs defense is so weak when Wemby on the bench. Zach Collins need to be replaced by a real rim protector. Zach could be great in a team with a dominant PF (such as Embiid) but not in a team with Sochan as PF (good defender but really small who would fit much more as SF). He is just not the right player in the right team !!!

The problem with Mamu AND BASSEY resigned is that there are no more available spots (amongst the 15) for Harrison Ingram. Will they fire Sidy to provide a spot for Ingram or will they offer him a two-way contract ? If Spurs would sign Minix and Ingram with two-way contract, with Bouyeahhhhhhhhh, the roster would be now full for 2024/2025 !!
BTW here is a little calculation to evaluate the number of wins that San Antonio can achieve next year : 1. If Spurs win all 4 matches against the weakest western teams (Jazz and Blazers), it provides 8 wins. 2. If Spurs win all 2 matches against the weakest eastern teams (Brooklyn, Detroit, Washington, Charlotte, Toronto, Chicago), it provides 12 wins. 3. If Spurs win 1 of 4 matches against the better western teams (all others), it provides 12 wins. In order to achieve more than 32 wins, the Spurs need to win several times against the better eastern teams or to perform 50% wins (2 on 4) against several western teams.
If the Spurs would be in eastern conference, it would be easier to achieve a higher number of wins as you bring 24 wins if you win all matches against the sixth weakest eastern teams.
We also need to take into account that Wemby can also be injured this year (it was not the case last year but, even if his life style is very healthy, it is not impossible). And I would understand the Spurs' organization to put Wemby on minutes restrictions again if he is touched by a minor injury. Next year is not an important year for the rebuilding process but it is more a year of progress for the young players. 2025/2026 season will be much more important as it can be considered as the first year of the playoff quest.
I agree both deals are good they are low risk. Zach Collins disrespect is too much I think he will find himself a bigger role off the bench this season.
