I don’t buy the sneaker thing. You can convince me of either of these:
1 – They didn’t invite him, because he’s a bad fit who is redundant with the other guys they already have on the team. Team USA learned that lesson in the Paul Pierce years that you can’t just fill the squad with best player available, you need to actually construct a team of talent that compliments each other.
2 – They didn’t invite him, because he’s low key Kyrie-lite. He has bizarre and potentially problematic beliefs and the bigger the platform, the more embarrassing it can get. Those 7 out of 11 media members threw him a bone by giving Tatum’s FMVP award to him, which generally I think is great because Brown deserves to be celebrated and not just yadda yadda’d as one of Tatum’s sidekicks, but with that higher profile comes more opportunities to showcase the blatant snake oil necklace stuff, the low key antivax stuff, the low key antisemetic stuff, the low key flat earth stuff, and other wildcard possibilities that Team USA probably doesn’t want a spotlight on.
In a roundabout way you can sum up #2 as “he’s not Adidas or Nike”, but I’m speaking more towards some of the reasons he doesn’t have an endorsement deal with Adidas or Nike and some have said he’s not marketable. He’s proven to be a bit of a controversial outspoken wildcard and the same reason corporations probably tread lightly around him could be why Team USA decided against bringing him in.
