INSTANT REACTION: Russell Westbrook to join the Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets are expected to add a former NBA MVP in Russell Westbrook to the roster. The Nuggets have been connected to Westbrook for the entire NBA offseason, and now there is a path for the two sides to reach an agreement to bring the veteran in to play alongside Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. How will adding Russell Westbrook impact the Nuggets? Are the Nuggets better with Westbrook? What will his role be? Ryan Blackburn and Swipa break it down for Nuggets Nation.

  1. This may be the first time Jokic has been able to play next to someone who can create shots for other players….a playmaker….lets go.

  2. We will see first hand the stark difference between RUSS and Murray….two completely different players….one relies on pure hustle…one relies on his shot falling.

  3. It means a lot for a player when he is asked by the team, especially by the recent champion, by the MVP… If Russ has the effect of 12 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds like in the Clippers, it is obviously a huge help to Denver. Denver's game will be much more lively, with many more offensive threats. It's not the same when you guard KCP and when you guard Westbrook, who can outrun you in seconds.

  4. This is great news for PW because Westbrook will force the bench unit to play fast and get out in transition so I think Watson's offensive productivity will go up. And in general the bench will play a different style than the starters who play at essentially a glacial pace. I think that's a good thing because the bench isn't filled with highly skilled half court offensive talent but everyone should be able to get out and run.

  5. This Russ, the one that was ok coming off the bench for the Clips, is perfect for the Nuggs. He can amp up that bench unit, maybe compete for 6th man, start 5-15 games when Jamal is injured, get minutes with Jok. If this works, if Russ has a great couple years in Denver, we will be a very attractive destination for stars.

  6. Coming off the bench was a real issue for Russ with the Clippers, according to multiple reports. So I’m not sure where the idea comes from that it wasn’t.

  7. Less goooooo!! I have followed Russ to every team since OKC I have been on this journey too so I'm on board with you guys now let's go Nuggets

  8. Yeaaaaa babyyyyyyy time for new drama starting mega star Russel Westbrook for his fifth or so drama like the lakers and the clippers and Houston and OKC where he was hated big time

  9. I still can’t get over trading a cheap backup point guard along with three second rounds for nothing

  10. I get the optimism but I just sounds like Swipa is trying to talk this into a great thing. I don't mind the pick up, our bench will definitely be better but I would love it if we keep CB with that unit and pick up a shooting option that can fill the starting 2 spot.

I've been to some of the CB summer runs … let's just say it's still a bunch of dunking, not alot of shooting.

  11. I think they might start Russ with Murray at the 2. Then the two of them will split up the PG duties. Not sure how well it will work, but I could definitely see them trying it at the start of the season.

  12. Mr aaporter1028 I take it six teams hate his gut after playing with them is not enough , only if it was seven teams then it could be plus generally speaking teams win championships not players and losing the previous nuggets GM to the wolfs doomed the nuggets with signing Westbrook and trading three second rounds and a player for nothing is somehow a good idea like selling a car for a gift of 2,000 dollars

  13. The new GM of the nuggets unlike the previous GM who left for the wolfs hasn’t added any good players from the draft or free agents who can play well and unless the one hit wonder Jamal Murray of 2022-2023 can play that well again then bad time ahead

  14. Mike malone coached really really really bad last season and unless he repeats the one year wonder of 2022-2023 then it will get worse and I don’t see him survive after next year with an elimination in the first or second round

  15. I don’t know why having all these players on the team who played ten minutes each all season long each who either the coach Mike Malone doesn’t like or trust or they are that bad and can’t play in the NBA

  16. You only suppose to shorten the bench during the playoff not all season long and Mike Malone has been really bad at it all his career as a coach and was extra bad last season for no reason except his ability to coach/manage the team

  17. Russ will get playoffs bonuses… The West is effing loaded. Has Boston done enough? I predict Boston struggles in next playoffs, as much as I enjoyed seeing Mavs get toasted.
Thunder, Spurs, Rockets, Lakers all going to be much much better.
    With Russ bringing that intensity?
Nuggets just need to load manage and stay healthy.

  18. I as keen as mustard to see Russ in in a Nug jumper. If we still had KCP I'd say all a fucken board the Denver ship. Now I'd say we're contenders.
