[Murphy] Excluding unlikely incentives for Quickley, Barrett, and Poeltl, the Raptors have about $11M in breathing room beneath the luxury tax now. They could use a good chunk of the mid-level, or could also just minimum/camp battle for final spot to keep the flexibility for in-season.

Biggest thing is this opens up them to use the MLE as a TPE in-season i.e. helping a Bruce trade and/or being able to take back more $$ in a Boucher trade with assets.

I wouldn’t expect us to make a $10m+ signing here. We probably want to maintain some space in case those incentives hit and also if a Bruce/Boucher trade brings back more $ than we send out.

We can also use that space to take on a contract from a tax team for an asset, since the MLE can be used as a TPE now. So that’s another avenue we could pursue.

Timeline be damned, I want the Brazilian Kevin Durant back! Dude has been balling out. Would be a great story and he’s been absolutely fantastic overseas. Get my man Bruno! Would also be nice to get Koloko back too ofc, hope he’s healthy and makes his way back to the league

With how the NBA CBA is changing things, I think having cap space is about to get a lot better for Non-FA destination teams.

So many 10-20m/yr level players are taking big pay cuts since teams don’t want to go over the tax anymore. There are going to be some good starting players willing to expand their team selection.

    free roster spot is nice

rather have them keep that open for the deadline for looming trades

So Koloko is getting one of those slots if he passes, I guess the question is if this is the prelude to a Bruce Brown 2:1 trade or another trade involving, I dunno, Boucher?

That or another camp battle for that final spot

Okay this might get a lot of downvotes, but what about Issac Okoro? Obviously Cavs could match but they might not. Not much offensive versatility but I had him on fantasy a bit last year and he did always get a steal and rebounds and his 3pt % is good.

He’s only 23 and in my opinion, would be an upgrade over Trent.

I would keep the space for a trade mid season with a team that needs help to get some additional assets back
