Proof Spurs Victor Wembanyama Shouldn’t Play With A Center?

The San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has been spectacular so far in the Paris Olympics for France. Wemby has been playing alongside Rudy Gobert and has made things more challenging at times for Wemby. Many Spurs fans use this to point to why the Spurs should keep wemby at the center position but is it just Rudy Gobert is a bad fit?

  1. Only way he could share the floor with another center is if they can stretch the floor with him Gobert build is only good for Wemby off the bench. Right now France has been running a lot of high & low for their twin towers don’t know how long it’ll last .

  2. Wemby should play along with a PF who can shoot efficiently at 3 (between 37 and 40%) and can stretch the defense by going to the corners. He really needs spacing to be able to dominate the opposite center with his mobility. If the defense comes to help, his passing ability will help him to find the right guy alone at 3 or cutting to the rim.
But the Spurs definitely needs a backup center who can protect the rim (Zac Collins has a lot of qualities but cannot be used as a rim protector center. The opposite team are making runs at the rim when Wemby is on the bench).
For the french national team, the team is playing better when Rudy is replacing Wemby and vice-versa than when both are playing together.

  3. Rudy Gobert would be decent if he just learned some basic offensive moves for when he gets the ball on the role. He is always fumbling around when trying to score. It just ruins the possession when he doesn’t take advantage of his scoring opportunities.
