as someone who doesn’t feel particularly obligated to root for my country, the United States national team is representative of everything I don’t want to see in the game of basketball moving forward.
I hate the fact that there’s almost no competition, I find absolutely no joy in rooting for a team that obliterates their competition. I love the prospect of basketball becoming an international sport, and success in international tournaments can seriously drive growth in international leagues. im also a citizen of Finland and Lauri’s breakout during the 2022 FIBA Eurobasket tournament spurred a massive increase in interest in the game among Finns. Now you’re seeing Finnish prospects slowly come up through college basketball.
essentially, the USA losing is good for the game of basketball

I can’t stand, AD, KD, LeBron, Booker, Tatum etc. but I could begrudgingly be convinced to wish them success representing my country.
Embiid? Nah. Can’t do it. Hope Jokic single handedly annihilates them.
