I think itā€™s fine to criticize Kerr and the coaching when weā€™re down by 20 at half or whatever, Olympics is hyper results focused since it’s a max of 6 40 minute games. But the flip side of that is when he adjusts well and we win the game you gotta give the coaches a ton of credit

The depth matters even less than a normal nba game where a single game depth doesnā€™t even matter that much. Itā€™s eight less minutes than an nba game so a bench is really just a luxury and not a necessity.

Personally I don’t really care about TNT losing the NBA because I think it’d be better for the game if the people who talked about it actually liked basketball, and Barkley clearly hates the modern game. His analysis is stuck in 1992 like this take.

  4. They invented a “Who he play for?” game for Barkley, so it’s no surprise that he is out of tune with the level of competition.

  5. deflatethesack

Charles Barkley is definitely in this sub right now, because the amount of people predicting us to win the gold medal game by 30 with no competition is insane. France is the only team to beat the US since 04. The game is gonna be a battle

  6. Afraid_Necessary9616

Itā€™s because the entire 90s player commentary shtick is to make themselves look better

  7. ColeHoops

Just in terms of the media discussion around him, Steve Kerr is Americaā€™s Gareth Southgate

  8. Windy cooked here, the 10 guys averaging 16 min is very telling. Not everyone can play, thereā€™s not enough minutes for it, let alone FIBA quarter lengths.

  9. Those “experts” still massively underestimate consistency and organically grown teams.
Do they really expect that 12 guys who get randomly thrown together harmonize as well as dudes playing together for years?
Yes, the US team still has the by far best talent. But no longer that much better that being a real team doesn’t matter.

  10. RaspberryOk2240

It wonā€™t be long before we have to grind out more games like this given the closing talent gap. International basketball is improving significantly

  11. MjordanSLO23

Chuck is right..Look a the two teams ..look at the names and think about it..

  12. Iā€™m thorn between shitting on Steve Kerr because Iā€™m a Steve Kerr hater or sucking him off because Iā€™m a Tatum hater

  13. DenverSuxRmodSux

kerr and that goated coaching staff has done incredible. People are just mad about JT not getting minutes but dudes jumper is COOKED and hes not a good 3 point shooter, or deep 2 in this case, but seriously JT just doesnt play good team basketball and hes soft. His defense is great with NBA rules but he doesnt assert his power on defense with FIBA rules.

  14. Considering that teams of other nations often know each other well and are catching up, it’s been a step into the right direction for the U.S. to develop something like a starting 5 / rotation instead of playing an All-Stars of All-Stars carousel.

Now, if the actual rotation is the best they can come up with can be discussed of course, but the general strategy is advantageous, I think.

  15. thecelticpagan

I wouldnā€™t say Kerr isnā€™t doing a good job, but I will say I donā€™t understand why players arenā€™t playing when itā€™s the most loaded team on the planet; Especially when the rotations arenā€™t working like how we saw against Serbia.

  16. noodlebball

USA will always have the edge when it comes to talent, but FIBA basketball is different to the NBA and team work matters.

Ask yourself how does a German team with two bench players in Thesis, Schroder and a rising star in Franz beat the USA in the World Cup? That US team isn’t the one we have now but still on paper are much more talented.

If you watch the semi against Serbia, the turnovers, allowing Serbia to get offensive rebounds, miscommunication on switches + the hot shooting by Serbia killed the US.

  17. JHaliMath31

Serbia was moving the ball way better the entire game. They actually looked like the better team. I donā€™t understand why USA does so much hero ball, just imagine if that team ran a Pacers style offense with Haliburton getting some minutes and dishing dimes to lebron, ant, KD, Embiid

  18. EliteFactor

I think Kerrs rotations were terrible against Serbia in that last game.

  19. CreamOfDuelJabR

Barkley said on Podcast P that if they donā€™t win they canā€™t come home lol

  20. po2gdHaeKaYk

I used to dis like Windy’s podcasts because a) I hated his co-stars and b) felt Windy had the personality of a wet rag and few novel opinions of his own.

I have to admit that he’s gotten a lot better with the increased exposure.

  21. Dude19809

Barkley a HOF basketball player. windy LeBron buddy that covered him in HS and got a gig at ESPN from it

  22. People critiquing USA for not dominating the competition is a disrespect to every other nation. The top 3 players in the NBA right now are not even from USA.

All these jokers can’t accept the fact that other nations are getting better.

  23. tistalone

While I understand that this isn’t the same best of 7 format in the NBA finals that we are all used to, the whole strategy and planning goes onto Kerr and the coaching staff. I find it strange that team USA has such ridiculous depth to a point where people question the game time allocation of a single player, yet Serbia was able to compete and dominated for a good three quarters. Maybe this was the game plan, maybe not. Just an atypical situation to see given the depth of team USA.

  24. LongAvocado8155

who gives a fuck what windy thinks about what charles thinks?

  25. MrOnCore

Does t Windhorst just repeat whatever Lebron/Klutch Sports wants him to say?

  26. Completely agree with Windy here. This isn’t ’92 anymore. Other countries rosters are stacked with NBA talent now and we aren’t just going to roll over everyone. World basketball is far more competitive than it’s ever been. Some of these old guys need to stop living in the 80’s and 90’s.

  27. kevboyyyy

Windy was so close to saying ā€œYou just donā€™t know ballā€ at the end

  28. ammonitions

did windy age a lot ? I don’t remember him lookin this worn

  29. OkLocal6

Barkley never won shit except as part of team USA. Kinda ironic.

  30. LyonsKing12

Barkley usually doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Its how he makes money.

  31. TheNewGuy13

I mean it’s kinda like the NCAA tourney but bigger lol. It’s once every 4 years and literally the best players on the planet for their respective countries. Even the number 1 overall seed doesn’t win the tourney every time

  32. taamaboy

Anyone else think the USA team would benefit from taking like 6 or 7 role guys insteas of 10 stars and 2 role players?
