The Chinese TALLEST Woman Basketball Player That’s TOO Big For The WNBA

The tallest woman basketball player is too big for the WNBA.

What if there was a woman basketball player who made NBA players look small? I’m talking bigger than Joel Embiid. We might be used to tall 7 footers in men’s basketball. Currently we’re seeing Bob an Marjanovic, 7’ 4” Wembanyama, but in the WNBA.

If you check the Guinness book of world records, the current tallest woman in the world is Rumeysa Gelgi who is 7 foot 0.7 inches and then there is her, Ziyu, a 7 foot 3 inch basketball player from China. This doesn’t even look real.

Yes that makes her the tallest woman in the world, taller than the tallest WNBA player ever, and she’s 17 and wants to make the WNBA.

In fact Ziyu would be taller than the average WNBA player by over a foot and 3 inches. That’s the equivalent to a 7 foot 9 NBA player. So taller than Yao Ming and you already know that everyone calling her the female Yao Ming.

A woman who is taller than Shaq needs more shine than this and we got to see her play in the Olympics.

And yes she can dunk. In 6th grade, Ziyu was already 6’ 9”. Taller than LeBron at 12. Both her parents were professional basketball players so it runs in the family.

Even though Ziyu towers over everyone, her posture seems to also be normal, something that again, we’ve seen the demise of the tallest men’s basketball players have back issues.

And in the under 18 Asia Cup, Zhang led the Chinese team to the finals and pretty much was unstoppable. She scored 36 points and 13 rebounds in 22 minutes against New Zealand, 44 points and 14 rebounds against Japan. These are exactly the type of numbers I would envision if you told me there was a 7’ 3” women basketball player.** She’s literally the woman Wilt Chamberlain.

Watching the tape, Ziyu is able to get wherever she wants on the court, she has enough weight and strength to push pretty much every player off their spot. There is no player that comes remotely close to blocking her shot or even bothering her.

After watching several interviews, off the court, Ziyu seems to be humble, calls herself a shy girl, coaches have nothing but praise, and she is focused on making the best of her abilities. but on the court, she is aggressive, wants the ball, directing teammates, just not yelling like Russell Westbrook.

Throughout the entire cup, she was the best player, to the point that China was being called a one person team. And unfortunately China would lose in the finals to Australia, but fortunately for us, that means we got to see Ziyu face really good team defense and have to give it her all.

Australia played fast to make sure Ziyu wasn’t set up in her defense because when she did, Australia had to play good team ball to get around her. It’s just that they were kinda able to get to anywhere they wanted on the court so maybe the rest of China’s team wasn’t doing the best to deny them the ball.

  1. her height is currently 228cm, and medical professionals expect the final height to be 232cm, it's something else considered hat she is a rare case for a women who is over 220cm but not having gigantism, and she does have very solid centre skills, not clumsy at all. And frankly coaches don't know what to do, no one in women basketball history had a player like that, it might not be a sure winning player but it's fun to just see how things would go.

  2. Bro just imagine if her and Wemby had a baby together lmao that baby would be at minimum 8ft tall as an adult regardless if it was a boy or girl 😂

  3. She moves really well for someone of her size. Unless she has a good command of English, she's not going to be playing D1 basketball any time soon, so I guess she might be going to Europe if she doesn't stay in China.

Hopefully she stays healthy and doesn't experience mobility issues.

  4. She is interesting, I wish her the best, be she got to work on many things (skills and her body) if she wants to make to the WNBA (even if they suck (until Caitlin Clark) ). The good thing she is still young so a lot of that is fixable with time and practice.

I do not expect her to be like Wemby, but develop some few other post moves, hook, drop step, and maybe a little shot. Basics handles, and manly is having the ability to move her body well. The pace is different at the WNBA and professional basketball here in the USA.

But the kid got talent, hope she gets to achieve her dream!

  5. I’m not a hater but she still got a lot of problems need to improve. She lack of stamina and she don’t really jump and ladies over 2m can block her shot. If she come to WNBA she will suffer too just my 2cents

  6. If she stays healthy past her mid 20s I'll be shocked. If she were to actually get in professional basketball shape that would be an actual miracle.

  7. The perfect comparison from man basketball is zach edey like rarely dribling and also more play in the post and cant barely catch uo with small player uding their fast run or 3 point shoot

  8. If she takes care of her knees and does flexibility exercises, she can have a very respectable career

  9. wow that shows how ethnocentric the Guinness book of world records is, it is a joke, how can the tallest women living be shorter than someone in china?

  10. She had no skills or football work to speak of
The aussie ran.rings around her in the u18 final
And she doesnt not jump at all

  11. Wish her good luck to get into the WNBA or in any other League. I'm not a basketball "expert". So, don't take my comments too serious. Her moves don't look smooth and her shooting also don't look that good. But that can be worked on in the three years or longer.

But if she is good at passing and has a good sense of her surrounding. She could copy (a part of) Jokić's style. Might also work with her personality.
