Breaking down Guerschon Yabusele’s fit with the Sixers | PHLY Sixers

Guerschon Yabusele making the jump from Real Madrid to the Sixers was a big coup for Daryl Morey and the Sixers. How big of a role will he play in Philadelphia, and can he make the rotation right away?

Devon Givens and Kyle Neubeck discuss what is likely the last Sixers signing of the summer and how Yabusele might provide cover for Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond.

  1. What he brings is exactly what the Sixers needed. They needed some size and he is like 270 lbs 6’8 amen can jump

  2. Oubre off bench, yall know anything about basketball. Oubre sacrifice cause wanted feature tobias was insane. Nick horrible job hv oubre in corner make no sense. I was right cost us season

  3. I had Sixers over Knicks. But now with the Yabusele signing, his size becomes a bigger plus vs Knicks.
I couldn't find defensive highlights either, but then EuroLeague doesn't promote defense.
Nurse will probably emphasize defense and Joel will want him to help with rebounding.

Its very possible that Nurse starts season using Yabusele over Bona, as backup 5, when Joel takes off.
Many of Yabu's 3s I watched were already 2 feet beyond the International 3 pt line. I don't see a problem with 3s.

  4. Joel and Guerschon will work well together, cleaning up Joel's misses, resulting in Embiid wanting to shoot more.
You reminded me that they both speak French as another plus.

Yabusele was listed as 6'7.5" in 2017 (age 21) at the NBA Combine in bare feet. He could have grown since then.
He should be considered a legitimate 6'8".

Regarding playing time, Marcus Morris, IMO, would have had a chance to play 20 mpg, as the only true PF on roster.
Clearly, Morey/Nurse view Yabu over Morris, so I see him getting a chance to play 20 mpg to start season.
The rotation can be 11 if healthy to start season. I have McCain, Bona and KJM out of rotation.
I have RC-IV over KJM at PF every night of the week. Don't know why KJM is listed as a PF and RC-IV as a SF (or even Guard).

Devon: Although Oubre has a player option for over 8 M, it would be a huge disappointment if he isn't deserving of the maximum allowed with his Early Bird rights – that is a 175% increase. That is almost 14 M x multiple years.

Regarding KJM, he won't be traded until right after Jan 15 (since the longer Morey waits less teams will be eligible to make the trade per CBA rules). However, in no scenario should KJM be considered more valuable that a Vet Min! It will be the draft capital included that will determine the KJM trade for a promising rookie scale player. Ideally, Morey will want to take back about 2 M less in guaranteed $, than going out. That is because it would allow the Sixers to be around 2.5 M under the 2nd Apron for next summer (includes using the t-MLE to hope to retain Yabusele, giving Oubre his 14 M and offering Drummond a 20% (1 M) increase. That will allow adequate flexibility to stay under the 2nd Apron (they would be hard-capped at 2nd Apron after using the t-MLE).

There are only 6 back to backs with travel. Joel will try to play most of the back to backs at home, if he's feeling good.
Joel does not want to miss more than 17 games if he doesn't have a serious injury.

Ideally, we should hope that Sixers don't advance in the United Arab Emirates cup. Its a curse for the teams that treat it like the playoffs (refer to IND and LAL last year).

  5. He is worth a shot for sure & I hope the best for Yabusele but he still is unproven in the NBA but I'm rooting for him

  6. I think this is a good gamble. A physical PF we need a player like him I think with the vets we got will help him develop more.

  7. With this guy, the Sixers all of a sudden have some beef along with Embiid and Drummond. You throw in Bona that can moonlight at PF and we're looking pretty good.

  8. Yasuable will helping Embiid on the backcourt and playing a better version of Paul Reed Marcus Morris and also Tobias Harris
