Was anyone else (un)fortunate to watch this team play back in 2001?

We finished the season 42-40 (7th in the East) and got bumped out in the first round by the 2nd seed Pistons.

Going into the all-star break were were 29-21. It all went down hill after that and we went on a 13-game losing streak… losing 17 of the next 18 games. Unreal. Beyond frustrating.

We did go on a 9 game winning streak between March and April, winning 12 of the final 14 games of the season…. But it was too little too late.

Hakeem was 38 when we signed him and he retired the following season. Keon Clark ended up signing with the Kings.

[I remember reading](https://a.espncdn.com/nba/news/2002/0930/1439379.html) that our GM (Glen Grunwald) said “It was a gamble and I think we lost on it, it didn’t turn out the way we had hoped. We had hoped he would be here for a couple of more years, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to be the case. … It could have worked great, but it didn’t. We have to move on now.”

    I actually laughed out loud.

  2. Keon Clarke was awesome. He retired to a $250k farm while still in demand in the league. He hated people to made a quiet life in the middle of no where. That being said, I think there was a run in with the law at some point.

  3. As bad as it could’ve been at times, I still have fond memories of it. Every so often I think of the career Keon Clark could’ve had if he had his shit together off the court. Just a really solid role player with some batshit insane highlights.

Besides his last season as a Raptor, no version of the team during the Vince Carter era was unfortunate to watch, imo.

The Christmas day game was defiantly a low point in Raptors history. But watching Keon and Vince try to dunk on everybody in every game I would never call unfortunate. Wasn’t Mark Jackson on that team for a cup of coffee too?

Is this why everyone wants purple throwback jerseys?

I remember Sprite Zone tickets being less than $20. It was a great time to be a young and broke fan.

It was only disappointing because the 2001 playoffs were so exciting and everyone thought we would build off it.

That season was incredibly frustrating since we had high hopes heading into it. But watching the team band together without Vince to make an amazing run into the playoffs was a pretty cool moment. Too bad Chris Childs forgot the score in the end of a playoff game but him and the rest of the guys played with so much heart. Keon will always be one of my favorite raptors.
