If no repeats, David Robinson. If repeats are allowed I think I’m ready to concede it to Wemby.

I feel like people are going to vote Admiral but the answer is Duncan (check back in 5 years for Wemby).

Timmy was a lot like Ray Lewis in the sense that you’d rather throw out half of your offensive playbook than bother challenging him.

I think we should fuse them and create the Big Fundamental Alien Admiral. Honestly I don’t care who gets this one we’ve been blessed af to have all three of these guys on our team.

How anyone is saying Timmy over David is frankly absurd. David is 11th all time in Block percentage which is basically the definitive stat based on how this superlative is reading. That said, this is going to be Wemby eventually. As good as David was, Wemby is on pace to have the highest block percentage in the history of the game (at least since 1973) and nearly twice that of David.

    Tim Duncan’s post-defense resume:
    – 15x all defense (1st all time by a lot)
    – 3,020 blocks (6th all time)
    – 568 playoff blocks (1st all time by a lot)
    – rebounding is arguably part of defending the rim. Tim is 7th all time in season and 3rd all time in playoffs
    – +2.33 Defensive Box Plus / Minus (12th all time)
    – 106.34 defensive win shares (2nd all time)

I wanna say Wemby, but David and Timmy were both strong in their own ways.

I was going to say Tim but after thinking on it a bit I think the answer is David. Look at his blocked shot averages before he hurt his back and Timmy joined the club:

    90: 3.9

    91: 3.9

    92: 4.5 (DPOY!)

    93: 3.2

    94: 3.3

    95: 3.2

    96: 3.3

    That is pretty ridiculous.

It’s not Wemby yet. He definitely will be, but his positioning is not quite there, he made some rookie mistakes, and can get bodied occa

I think right now I’d probably say Robinson. Duncan was more disciplined and better positionally. But Robinson’s athleticism really popped and he was more aggressive going after blocks as well (which came back to bite him against Hakeem). 90s rim protection stats were inflated, but Robinson had over 3 bpm each of his first 7 seasons. He even put up 4.5 blocks a game in 91-92.

If I need someone to block a shot, Robinson is top 5 all-time. Wemby will pass him, but we need a few more seasons first.

Wemby to me. He’s already that intimidating as an interior defender that scoring on him one on one is already considered a highlight. Add to that the 3.6/2.2 blk to foul ratio, I go with him despite only playing 71 nba games so far in his career

As good a defender down low timmy was, the admiral was the most agile defender in the 90s until his back started going bad. He was able to block anyone from either side of the paint with his speed. Only Hakeem in 1995 for one series and Shaq have big games on him but overall he held his own or dominated every other big man he played against.

Really tough call. While Duncan had more all defensive 1st team nods, Robinson at his best I think had the better peak defensively

  12. LegoTomSkippy

Already posted for Robinson, but I don’t get why so many are saying Duncan over him.pre back injury Robinson was obscene.

DBPM prefers Robinson, so do blocks per game, and so does watching the tape.

Block stats in the 90s were a little inflated, but Robinson put up 7 out of the top 10 blocks per season in Spurs history, including a monster 4.5 in 91/92. Wemby put up #4. Duncan put up numbers 9 and 10.

Duncan is the best Spur ever, but the Admiral has him in rim protection.

I think this is the Admiral barely over Duncan Duncan is arguably the best defender not to win DPOY but Robinson was a force at the rim that you don’t mess with. All things equal I think Robinson barely Wemby will be this guy in due time

  14. fraygirl

Duncan or Robinson, now in a few years it will be Wemby.

  15. Percenary

It’s gotta be the admiral. I love Timmy but Robinsons peak was competing with prime Hakeem for the best interior defender title.

  16. samackin3000

Timmy was a great defender but Wemby with his length is just that much better a defender around the rim.

  17. moshercycle

Idk I just wish we could see Timmy d and wemby play together during their primes man shit would be fuckin insane lol

  18. CrissCrossAppleSos

I think Timmy because of sample size, but Wemby’s not crazy
