Can never hate on Russ the father, teammate, husband, person. I always thought KD shoulda been the #1 in the OKC days, but after I heard the story of Russ coming to him asking “what can I do to a be better teammate? what can I do to make you stay?” in KD’s free agency year you knew he only wanted the best for his team, his friends, his brothers.
Could he have altered his playstyle a bit as he aged? Sure. Would that have been sacrificing a valuable bit of one of the most athletic point guards we’ve ever seen? Absolutely. Could he have handled his decline and media scrutiny a little better? No doubt.
But unlike many I could mention I have never for a second have questioned his heart, hustle, or integrity. Russ is great and one of the greats of our era (especially the what-ifs) but he is a basketball player I respect through and through.
People make up the dumbest shit this part of the offseason.
