Washington Wizards Head Coach Brian Keefe on Open Floor Podcast

Coach Keefe was a guest on Sports Illustrated's Open Floor Podcast with Chris Mannix. Linked here for anyone who wants to listen. I'll be honest: I wasn't the biggest fan of the front office sticking with him as head coach when the decision was announced. I don't hate him or anything. The hire didn't inspire much confidence or excitement. On this podcast, it was nice to listen to him talk about why he wanted to be in Washington and hear his perspective on players like Bilal and Alex Sarr. His optimism in Poole's game is great, too, because I believe he's due for a bounce-back season and so does Keefe.

One of the biggest takeaways for me was how influential the front office was in his decision for wanting to coach the team. Winger & Dawkins have impressed me so far with their general approach to rebuilding his team, and it's clear that their vision is one that Keefe has bought into fully and wants to help execute. He echoes their measured approach to building toward success, and it's clear that the organization is finally aligned in a positive direction. Another great takeaway was how Coach Keefe's exposure to great teams and players as a young video coordinator/assistant coach informs how he approaches player development. It's worth listening to if you're starving for any good discussion about the team and the upcoming season, like I am.
