Third-world is no longer in vogue – we now prefer to call it a “developing” country. Coming from one myself, I can tell you that we enjoy privileges even y’all Americans don’t… fortunate in some ways, but less so in others. My main takeaway from Pop’s “lesson” is to be grateful for what you have rather than brooding over what you’re missing out on.

For anyone who didn’t watch beyond the Spurs-related bits, they went on to discuss the evolution of the NBA, how newer players now earn significantly more than they did despite having had to work extremely hard to secure similar contracts just a few CBAs ago. There were no sour grapes, but PG did question whether the current players are putting in the same effort. DeMar’s heart is in the right place. The old guard paved the way for them, and now they’re the oldheads, so these kids sort of owe it to them too. Zero tolerance for any casual disrespect like declaring they’re less talented and competitive back then.

I think the NBA and NBAPA should be proud of how well they’ve negotiated TV contracts throughout the years. Just unsure if salary increases trickle down to everyone working in the league. Prolly not. As for the rest of us plebs, it’s tragic that we can’t seem to beat inflation YOY, even with a promotion or pay rise.
