The Raptors Are Betting Their Future On RJ Barrett

The Raptors Are Betting Their Future On RJ Barrett

When the Toronto Raptors traded OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks in late 2023, their primary objective was to get Immanuel QUickley in return, RJ Barrett was just the bonus. Fast forward to the summer of 2024 and RJ Barrett could be setting up to be the lead scoring option for the Raptors for the season ahead and potentially future ones down the line.

WHat caused such a dramatic shift in his game to the point the Toronto front office is staking their future in the 24 year old? Jacob Gramegna has the answers in today’s video on Amateur Hour Sports.

  1. I believe in RJ, consistency is good enough for me. Develop that right hand more, improve in defence and I’m happy. If the rest keep improving we’ll be alright. GD I believe is the key to unlock everyone else.

  2. The leap was made Jan 1 2024. All it took was being used according to what made him a top prospect. The question becomes, is this RJ’s new floor?

  3. For me if he can take that 32 games and make them 72 this year same mins and stats to me that is a jump if not a leap. I really liked his assist increase since that helped him take pressure off himself to score. The real difference to me could come on Def as he needs to show as a leader for other wings that Def matters.

  4. I truly believe with a proper floor spacing Rim protector… This team contents and can actually win with RJ at the helm he's a legit bulldozer!

  5. Anyone that doesn't respect a person's work is unethical. I have no questions for RJ.
Im more wondering what Gradey Dick brings and most importantly can IQ and Barnes play up to their paychecks.
I believe everyone has to do their job. Barrett is the leader of the Raptors by his play, the European media hates quiet respectable Afro American players as leaders because they think large personality is sign of leader. For me quiet respectable clean-cut hard-working efficient basketball player deserves credit over weirds big mouth fools

  6. with usage increase would maybe drop some efficiency but help us in other areas. I agree with needing a floor spreader and if we get vertical spacing he can show the skills that ny didn’t have the space for. And he consistently had vets that wanted contracts and bigger roles in his earlier years. His pg was Elfrid Payton. He likes the ball then randle morris portis burks rose. A lot of vets that wouldn’t pass the torch. Similar for quickley who came in a yr after Rj and yr older. Even with that they both had good counting stats. It will be extremely disappointing for them to not replicate last yrs end.

  7. RJ is a monster. something flipped his switch as soon as he got out of NY. he's got so much potential, but strangely never showed it with the knicks. he was sleep walking through his career, and not exactly exciting. but this guy is so good, and he's young, too. looking forward to the season.

  8. The Raptors are completely an utterly basing their feature on Scotty Barnes as if he doesn’t turn out to be a top five superstar there’s no fucking chance This team wins a a championship
