I don't agree with Bobby. Okc added two players. One a mid line starter and the other a great role player. There's nothing there that says they got dramatically better especially in the regular season. They will not be a healthy and will take a step back. Okc will finish at best 3rd but maybe even worse. It annoys me why these teams that get all of this credit having not been battle tested. Okc first series wasn't a real series. Then lost to Dallas in 6. To be clear Giddy WAS NOT the only problem and if you think so go back and watch the series again….hardenstien will not be the answer for lively and gafford. Caruso will not be the answer for Kyrie or Klay. Remember this post.
Yeah they’ll probably have to beat Timberwolves and Okc in the playoffs and western conference finals. Which they have done and can do again. The Mavs have two of the most clutch players, so if it comes down to the last minute/ seconds I think they have a better chance to win. And of course many games will be close when you’re playing the top 2-3 teams.
My personal take on the expectations debate. I watch every season with an evolving idea of what is a success. Were the games fun to watch? Did I feel like the team met their potential? Did my young star player who I've invested in watching his growth begin to achieve the greatness I believe he's capable of?
With that in mind, whether this years Mavs makes it to the conference finals or not isn't what determines the season's success. It certainly could be. But if we get knocked out of the first round by OKC, but Dereck Lively was an all star after becoming a huge tjreat on both ends of the floor, and Luka won MVP, and Kyrie was brilliant and stayed healthy and happy, and Klay fit right in, and on and on for every member of the roster being their best self, and the vibes all season were immaculate? It'll have been a success. Because that would be an amazing journey for the year.
If none of that happens but we make the conference finals again? Also a sucess, just a simpler one.
