[NBCSB] Red and Tommy: Jordan’s Bulls have no chance vs the 60s Celtics

To celebrate Red Auerbach's birthday today, here's a flashback from our archives from 1998, as Mike Gorman asks Red and Tommy Heinsohn if the Jordan-Bulls dynasty compares with his Celtics.

You can probably guess their answer

I love Tommy’s answer at the end about two guys trying to beat a team of 8 guys and it can’t be done, which is still relevant today. We just saw “the most talented back court in history” go up against the Celtics depth and it was too much for them to handle. No matter how great Luka was or how talented Kyrie is, people eventually circled back around to “they have no help” and that was the difference.

That being said, the 90’s Bulls were actually really deep so I know they’re gassing their favorite team up, but he’s right that 1 guy can’t do it all. It’s like people forget Jordan was absolutely unconscious but couldn’t beat the Celtics or Pistons in the 80’s because they simply had better teams.

It’s a nice reminder when we eventually get to the playoffs and people start picking the teams with 1-2 really great stars and not a lot of great depth to actually contend for the title.
