Finch has been a pretty big fan of McDaniels since he’s gotten here.
Felt like the most significant portion of this segment of the interview was Britt talking about installing more or expecting more growth from Ant. Finch agreed, but was a little subdued about Ant:
>But I don’t build it in because I think that would be dangerous. We still have to see it. What we build in is the baseline and we hope there is no regression.
Then he adds about Jaden:
>I will say that there are times we build in out of hope rather than practicality. Like this year, going in, I am building in Jaden McDaniels taking a step forward.
Now I don’t think it’s a slight toward Ant. Just looking at this through the context of how the team is built, Ant is already shouldering so much burden that Finch could just be saying it’d be “dangerous” to throw more onto those shoulders.
On the other side Jaden there is more meat on the bone for him, especially on offense. If Finch anticipates McDaniels can handle more and grants him more opportunity and Jaden shows more consistency then does this unearth a level of play that reaches Finch’s hyperbolic Pippen comparison.
