[Charania] Clippers star Kawhi Leonard underwent a procedure on his knee in the offseason, sources tell me and @LawMurrayTheNU. The franchise said today Leonard will be limited to strengthening his knee to start Clippers training camp, but team officials are optimistic about his progress.

Clipper brass did stalk Kawhi for a season when he was in Toronto. We chased a problem. I guess 2019 isn’t all that meaningful anymore. We chased for the wrong type of player we thought could carry us to a chip. Then when we got him, we had to do the worst trade in NBA history to get PG who is no longer with us. Just stupidity all-around. The icing on the cake is watching SGA or PG reaching the Finals. Something our franchise has never done.

The optimistic view, if you’re even willing to entertain it, is that he got a procedure done last year also and played 65+ games. Could be this procedure helps him stay on the court as long as possible before he inevitably breaks down.
Realistically that was probably about as fortunate as you can get with Kawhi’s health these days. Missing any time early could be brutal for our season, as he typically starts slow and we would have to adjust.
But if he is still that guy on the basketball court, which he has been, I can see someone trading for him. Maybe next offseason, since 2 years would not be a very long commitment. It feels like cope though as I’m just desperate for this team to move on from this shit.
