A Tribute To Al McCoy: The Greatest Phoenix Sun Ever

Some may think Charles Barkley, Walter Davis, Steve Nash, Shawn Marion, Alvan Adams or even Devin Booker is the greatest member of the Phoenix Suns. They’re not though. That honor goes to the great Al McCoy.

He had an NBA record 51 years as the Voice of the Suns. He passed away Saturday at the age of 91. This is our tribute.

  1. Thank you! I was born and raised in Phoenix and Al McCoy has been a part of so many precious memories

  2. He lived a couple houses away and was one of the first to welcome me to the neighborhood. Always a wave if I was in the yard when he drove by. Very nice man!

  3. Seems like yesterday back in early 70s hearing on radio as a kid long shot "thier it goes Clem the Gem Haskins "! Thank you for all the memories RIP❤

  4. most radio announcers"lag the action" a bit but not Al. he did games that were simulcast and could keep up his play by play for radio. not an easy thing to do. when the Suns were on national TV I`d watch on TV but listen to Al on the radio. he was # 1

  5. I'm literally teared… I used to listen to this man with my father camping up in the middle of no where just wanting to hear the Suns game. RIP

  6. My Dad and I both had to chock up and cry a bit, when we heard this news. Al was amazing. I meet him 1 time when he lost a close friend of his. This man in that moment was the same man you all Know, and Love. Rest easy. “They will Win it for You” This Year!

  7. He didn't have the exposure of Vin Scully, but Al McCoy was every bit the artist that he Vin was.
