The Raptors May Have Gotten This One Wrong..

Vince Carter is about to become the first player in Toronto Raptors franchise history to have their number retired but according to Jacob Gramegna this could be the WRONG move by the organization.

There is a lot that makes sense about the timing with the Raptors bringing back the famous purple jerseys, the 30th anniversary season and Vince Carter himself nearing his Hall of Fame induction. However, a lot should be made firstly about Kyle Lowry’s impact on the team and why he should have potentially been the first player to have their numbers in the rafters, but also about the way Carter left the organization and how it set the franchise back by many years.

Today’s video on Amateur Hour Sports is a spicy one.

  1. Kyle Lowrys status should have no impact on whether you do or don’t retire his jersey. Lowry is still an active player. Get over yourself.

  2. Vince's involvement goes beyond the Raptors, his jersey should have been retired sooner.

  3. Kyle for sure will be a raptor legend and his jersey retired WHEN HE RETIRES. I became a Raptors fan because of Vince. if not for him, I'll still be a Bulls fan.

  4. I don’t get why Lowry is on the top, if anything it should be Kwahi, there is no championship without him.

I experience the whole Vince Saga, without Vince Raptors and Vancouver Grizzlies are the same.

  5. I get where you're coming from but I'm not mad about it. VC paved the road for the organization and this should've happened sooner, imo.

  6. I blame the Toronto media for poisoning a fan base against their star. Writers like Steve Simmonds from the Sun is still trying to blemish the man. Vince should be honored.

  7. 🎉 as it should be. Without Vince Carter there is no NBA team in Toronto. He is 100 times better player than Laurie. Not to mention that for a brief time maybe the most exiting player in NBA

  8. Are you sure you know why Vince left? I do t think think you know. Vince is still the best player the Raps have ever had.

  9. Chill out on VC. Lowry is still active in the NBA. VC went into the Basketball HOF as a Raptors player- put some respect on his name. There is only one former Raptors player in the HOF as a Raptors player and it is VC.

VC was the Raptors' first superstar and is credited for raising the profile of the team and igniting enthusiasm for basketball across Canada… recognize game!

  10. As a Raptors fan from day 1 I totally disagree. VC totally deserves his number to be retired before Lowry. Let's be brutally honest, without Kawhi Lowry would have no rings. Are we gonna retire Kawhi's number? No, didn't think so.

  11. If Kawhi didnt play for the raptors and 0 championship… would you yall feel the same way about Lowry??😂 If theres no Vinsanity it may have been Memphis Raptors! Lmao

  12. Why did they get this wrong? Vince put us on the map. He wanted out because of shitty management not because he didn’t want to be here, get over it. I am glad he is the first, Lowry would be next. Don’t agree with this take at all

  13. Lowry actually tried to stop the Kawhi trade. If he got his way we likely wouldn't have won it all that year.

  14. VC is the man who made the rest of the NBA pay attention to this franchise. He was the only star for a long time that actually resigned with the raps. Granted things fell apart in a bad way but that in no way undoes all the positive aspects of his time in the purple. If there was no vince than there might never have been a chance to chase a championship. He is truly the right player to get his jersey retired first.

If we’re talking statues out front than thats a totally different situation.

  15. It kills me, how a generation that only knew VC as little kids can tell people what was the better choice. If VC didnt do what he did for this team/country, players woukdnt have wanted to come here. He made this canadian team relevant. When you were a little kid. Cover another team, dude. Your hate, for this team, is getting tired AF. No clue, at all.

  16. The Reason VC Asked For A Trade was Because Of Management At The Time Lied To Him About Making Decision For The Future Of The Team. So They Made Decisions Without Him So Then VC Requested a Trade. I Forever Hated Rob Babcock For That.

  17. You are absolutely 100% WRONG !!!! CANADA basketball is what it is today because of Vince Carter. You must be a "youngin" born in the mid to late 90's or something. VC is the best thing Raptors ever had. Vince Carter is the GREATEST RAPTOR OF ALL TIME and it ain't close! PERIOD!!!

  18. If only we would’ve drafted Tyshaun Prince in 02 and we have Bosh at 03 and we trade the 04 pick for Jason Terry and never hired Sam Mitchell. A core of Carter, Terry, Bosh and Prince is a good team.

  19. Bon Jovi and division banners brah. However, context for us older fans, it's the right thing to do. Bosh, meh. Demar, possibly. Kyle, yes. Kawhi, no.

Edit: Context. Babcock wanted to tank, Vince wanted out. In today's environment Vince holds out or management sits him for a better trade. The interview afterwards saying he wasn't trying made it worse. He unfairly got flack for missing games some seasons due to injury. Today's environment, load management. For the impact he had in his time in Toronto, it's deserved. Plus he came back and had some good games against us, got MoPete ejected that one time and beat us in a playoff series. He's an important part of Raptors history either way.

  20. VC liked being in Toronto actually, and did lots for the city, current Canadian players even went ton his camp in Toronto. He was the first star of the franchise, of course he should be retired FIRST. If it wasn't for him, we would end up like the Vancouver Grizzlies…RIP

  21. Jacob, I may never again disagree with you.. but Vince is the GROAT. Let the healing begin! ❤

  22. Everyone on the chat needs their head checked. Vince is more than deserving to have his jersey retired. A lot of you are acting like you were there and know first hand how the trade went. Vince as the star player asked for certain things to help the team and did not get them. First that bum ass front office from that era fumbled Tracy McGrady and he left for nothing. Then Vince made some demands as most franchise players do, and the GM at the time thought he was bigger than the team and decided to not give Vince what he wanted and then he doubled down thinking he could do better without Vince and how did that work out?? I would leave too. Ues its about being professional and the Babcock couldn't stand the fact that Vince has leverage and decided to use it and he wasn't having it. Then decided to trade Vince for nothing which was the worst trade in Raptors history. So all you haters can kick rocks. Vince made the Raptors and the city of Toronto relevant in the basketball world

  23. Vince Carter is the Raptors. Without him, yall don’t have a squad in Canada let alone in Toronto. You should worship this man as he was still the one and only superstar yall had. Bosh was a great all star caliber player but not a superstar. Kyle was a good player at best. Not in the same conversation as VC.

  24. say what you want to say about the guy but if Vince never got drafted to Toronto we would of lost the franchise, just like Vancouver

  25. The idea that who an organization retires first should not matter, Lowry will be retired and Vince Carters legacy goes beyond basketball.

20 years from now no one is going to care that he got retired first, similar to other organizations we just pay attention to numbers in the rafters and pay respect.

  26. Definitely wrong, Vince is the Raptors and I watched every game he played in Toronto, no one is more deserving and this is perfect timing
