Why The Julius Randle Trade Makes Perfect Sense

Why The Julius Randle Trade Makes Perfect Sense

A lot of people viewed the Julius Randle trade as a head-scratcher for the Timberwolves, but what if it actually makes perfect sense?

  1. The biggest gain for the Wolves is DiVincenzo. He’s a great three point shooter and has a motor that doesn’t quit. I really like this trade. I really like KAT but he’s soft, takes too many stupid fouls and when he was out with injury Naz stepped up and the offense improved. Randle I’m a little ambivalent about. He’ll be fine but he also is less of a cap hit and is more tradable if they want to move on from him. If not they can sign him for a lot less than what KAT will cost. It is also true that the best threesome for the Wolves last year was Ant, Rudy and Naz. They had the best scoring differential of any three some on the Wolves.

  2. If the Wolves can get Randle to up the playmaking while improving his efficiency with fewer shots this could be a homerun

  3. Finally someone is reporting facts instead of feelings 💯 both teams won in this trade. Both teams got exactly what they wanted. And truthfully speaking, people in Minnesota have been begging the Timberwolves to get more physical and now they are.

  4. Those easy lobs the mavs had against us in the playoffs wont happen again mavs were the only team that figured out our two center lineup randle being undersized might help us be good at switching on defense plus randle is gonna make teams like the mavs work on defense luka was guarding rudy when rudy sucks on offense

  5. The trade was good perfect for thw TWolves hands down 💯 how i see it is they got rid of Kat but 2 pieces that really replace exactly what Kat is EVEN add a new dynamic factor with your line ups. Randle upgrades everything Lat was in terms of physical play & craftiness, vision. Atmosphere there Randles gonna thrive like he did in NY‼️ & ima miss my boy Divinchenzo but hes a SNIPER i think more than Kat too 😮‍💨 plays solid defense too MAN Minnesotas temperature is gonna rise over there🔥 gonna gonna watch all 82 of NY & MN 🧡💙/🤍🩵

  6. I like your analysis, but I do think Randle's inefficiency is understated considering this team is trying to content for a title. Hopefully, they don't take big steps back over the next few years.

  7. Denver doesn't have KCP and added Westbrook. Wolves don't plan on seeing the Nuggets 😂

  8. This turned me from a non believer. To borderline optimistic after the breakdown. Great analysis video.

  9. stick with me…what if we start, Gobert, Ant, McDaniels, Connely, and Reid?! Then have Randle coming off the bench. My guess is however, Reid will stick with his 6th man role, though I would like to see him start over Randle.

  10. Randle opts out to enter free agency after a year. this trade is really about Donte. Gives wolves good guard depth and a lethal shooter we need with Karl leaving.

  11. I think He and DiVincenzo will have a very big impact on the Wolves’ game in short time. Impatient to see that!

  12. We’ll look at this trade similar to that of Hali for Sabonis it works out for both teams all Kat has to do is shoot 3s rebound and defend the paint! Randle adds a entire new dimension to the wolves he has that dawg in him that Kat didn’t have. Not to mention he’s always in the gym his three point shot will improve as we saw last year.

  13. The Knicks should've traded DaQuan Jeffries, Miles McGribe, Marcus Morris Sr, Julius Randle, Ariel Hukporti, to the Timberwolves for Karl-Anthony Towns, & Naz Reid, kept Donte DiVincenzo in that order…….

  14. Being from Minnesota Karl Anthony, get out of Town had to do just that. He cries too much, and he stinks on the defensive of end. Minnesota got rid of a puppy for a dog

  15. Perfect sense …..Two words ……… 2nd Apron !!!! Period !!!

Has Zero to do with winning ….2nd Apron …… Period !!!!

  16. I think the wolves won this trade, Kat went 4 for 32 in 4 games from 3 with little to no adjustment, he rarely used his size and his needyness I think drained ant offensively, randles game could be more consistent in the playoffs and hopefully less fouling out, Randle also took the nicks from being mediocre to growing so he has a desire to win I think idk, Kat who knows I got so sick of his excuses and just weird leadership

  17. Minnesota will be better than last year watch Randell and Dante are studs and fit with the Timberwolves perfectly

  18. Here’s the other piece. It’s not fun, but it’s the ugly facts of small market economics: they were apparently going to run a >$100 mil deficit this year…

  19. Seriously I love this vision of the trade. I think the extreme focus on Randle's non-modern approach to the game blindsided a lot of people that are critical of this trade, or critical on Randle as a player. Why ideally he is a spacer that shoots well from outside of the 3 point line, the reality is that he is not that type of player and if they do not trade him, they simply have to make it work.

I've seen the Pelicans struggle with getting enough outside shooting, as players simply are not pulling the trigger often enough and at times some of them can struggle making them. Does this mean the team is bad or can't work? Hell no, they were quite good.
Their weakness stemmed more from not having big men that could play fast enough, or offered enough rim protection, in addition to having too many on-ball players instead of having off-ball ones. The playstyle of having good midrange scorers and rim threats might be a bit outdated, but it still works.

The only issue I see with Randle, is that he has been inconsistant. As a player that is going to need to provide a reasonable amount of offense on a team that is sorely lacking creation, having 'Bad Randle' for a year could be detrimental, while having 'Good Randle' could be amazing and improve their offense by a lot.

Lastly, I think that you are seriously underselling Donte DiVincenzo. In my eyes, he is the best and most easily usable player out of all of these three. The fact that he only makes $12M is baffling, considering he shot at Curry/Dame levels of threepoint shooting at some points last year, when his minutes increased, including being super-efficient and clutch in the playoffs.
While his size does limit him somewhat, he is a really tenacious and serviceable defender as well. He does have decent playmaking and is simply a smart player that relocates and cuts well. Add to the fact that he also played 40+ minutes multiple times and still performed, you could say he has some of the best conditioning in the NBA as well. This is your Bruce Brown type of player that you need to win championships. He can do enough to fill any role in a pinch, works hard and has far more impact in those tight playoff situations than you'd expect.
