Ayton discussing Scoot: “Locking in as our true franchise PG, just being that starting PG that we need”

Question by Highkin at 3:50 in the media availability.

Ayton had some high praise for Scoot, and also mentioned him being the starting PG and establishing himself as the franchise guard. Curious if this is just him talking him up, or if this is a glimpse into Scoot being the starting PG this season?

I’m very curious about the role of Simons this year– could this mean he’s out of the PG role and settling into more of a SG? I see him as our best, most consistent shooter and scorer.

In 1978, the Sonics won the championship with a backcourt of a classic point guard (Gus Williams), a hard-nosed SG defender (Dennis Johnson), and a superlative shooter (Fred Brown), who split the time evenly in the two positions. I’d like to see a Henderson/Sharpe/Simons three-headed backcourt, with Simons in the Brown role.
