Bam Adebayo on DPOY:

“People move that goalpost for me with
DPOY or All-NBA. It's like if I'm guarding 1–5 and y'all are saying I can't get DPOY, well there's not a lot of DPOYs getting 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

And there's not a lot of All-NBA players getting top five in DPOY voting every year. It's just that the goal post moves for me.” (via @Anthony_Chiang)

What he’s saying is absolutely true.

How are dudes who are only rim protectors and get targeted during playoffs the DPOY? Yet the guy who guards 1-5 and can switch from Murray to Jokic not even win once?

And how are dudes who play no defense ALL-NBA but the guy who is top 3 DPOY candidate every year and also averaging 20-10 not considered one of the top 15 most complete, All NBA caliber players?

It’s a popularity contest and total bullshit.

AD and Bam are the two most reliable defensive players in the NBA when healthy. They do everything, both don’t get the respect from media they deserve.

Unfortunately I don’t think he’s ever gonna win it. Media ties DPOY with stats for blocks or steals.

Once they rewarded Marcus Smart for being able to defend 1-5 as a reason for DPOY I knew Bam wasn’t ever getting one

Wemby is coming soon and he’s probably gonna win one before Bam

Because the media doesn’t watch games they look at box scores. 95% of the voters are old has beens who lost their love for it a long time ago and are just going through the motions to get paid.

Bam is great at everything on defense with no weaknesses. Guys like Gobert are great at shot blocking but if a team exposes his weakness in forcing him to guard a shooting center, it gets so bad that he becomes liability on defense.

For that reason I think Bam should be over guys like Gobert, especially when Gobert already has 4…

Bam and AD duo was a problem in the olympics.
