Why This Trade Is Weirdly Good For Minnesota
The Minnesota Timberwolves traded Karl Anthony Towns for Julius Randle and Donte Divicenzo. Now while this trade looked really weird at first, there’s reasons to believe that this trade makes sense outside of just opening up more cap space.

What if Kat slimmed down by 20-30 pounds and move to the 4 full time? I mean
bro talking like squidward
A lot of people be forgetting Naz Ried is as good of an offensive threat as Randle. There still some redundancy in the roster. Both Randle and Naz should be starting. What's your closing lineup w/ Naz Gobert Randle as bigs, Ant Conley & Dillingham as guards, and NAW JMac DiVincenzo as forwards. Any lineup you make will lack defense, size, playmaking or spacing. I bet they will end up benching Rudy a lot, which just shows he isn't worth his contract sadly. The knicks may be less deep and lack the incredible versatility Minny has, but their closing 5 is by far the best in the league now. They won the trade for sure.
Minnesota really needed another guard and with Kat on the roster there was no way they could ever afford one.
i think Wolves won the trade. Randle is a stud on a good contract and "prove it" year. He will show out, he is super motivated. Donte is a stud too and a absolutely great contract.
It's basically even but the addition of Donte makes a win for the wolves without a doubt. He carried the Knicks so much last playoffs for a role player and he gives effort on defense. The stagger with Randle will also be better
Dante's a very solid defender and brings out the effort in his teammates as well
I love ya channel Brodie, keep grinding 💪🏿
Randle is gonna put effort in on defense or he won't play as much. The team made that clear last season. Defensive effort is the key to playing time in Minnesota.
Thoughts on offensive spacing? A projected lineup will be Ant (35.7%) McDaniels (33.7%) Conley (44.2%) Gobert (0%) and now they go from KAT (41.6%) to Randle (31.1%)
I think the most obvious point people aren’t considering is how much better ANT is going to be this year 😂
He is ready to be the high usage guy, Naz Reid, Jayden McDaniels are all ready to level up
They lost size but they got VERY FAST
People got it wrong… we’re not going from Kat to Randle, we’re going from Kat to Naz… the kicker is we’re going from Slomo to Randle
Randle's D is dependent on his happiness level. I think Wolves need scoring, so they will be find letting him 'do as he's been doing' as Finch said. Dillingham is a very good passer, and will be developed that way, he was just asked to score in college. They traded up for him at #8, he's the point guard of the future if he develops well.
Kat is unbearable to watch. He makes so many mistakes on the court. Always commits silly fouls offensively and defensively. It's like babysitting the highest paid player on your team. The fans were over it. Finch was over it. Its not even what they got back, its a win for the simple fact that he's not on the team anymore.
I love this channel, thanks for the insight into someone who actually knows about the two players
The Knicks never had to hide Randle defensively. Most star players who have to expend a lot of energy on offense, have to pace themselves on defense. The thing is y'all still refuse to acknowledge Randle as that type of player, but you'll see it soon enough. Randle can play elite defense when it is required from him. Throughout his whole career he has taken assignments against some of the best scorers in the league, and done well. His 1v1 defense is great when it needs to be, but yes, sometimes his team defense can suffer due to lapses in focus, but like I said, that's not uncommon with star players, but Randle rarely gets the benefit of the doubt, so people will try to lower his value anyway they can.
This is good basketball reporting.. I definitely will subscribe to this channel
Wolves win this trade and the draft
Randle is coming off da bench whatz is yall sayn Naz is coming
The pick isnt that heavily protected. I dont think the Pistons will be a bottom 8 team 2 years from now. It's a lot more valuable than you are giving it credit for.
I Don't know how much worse this trade make them over all, but without question, it makes them match up significantly worse with the nuggets
I think most people don’t understand either that they chose naz Reid over KAT. If they kept KAT they would’ve lost Reid after this year. And honestly I would’ve done the same
People said KAT couldn’t or wouldn’t play defense. They said he was too soft and couldn’t play physical on ball… last year he was 7th in the league in defensive rating. He bought into the defensive identity that this team established and he stepped his game up. If they can get Randle to buy in as well, perhaps they can get similar results out of him. He’s not a terrible defender, but he can be lazy at times and maybe has never had the proper motivation to play otherwise. Maybe he becomes a defensive liability… and gets traded… or maybe he becomes a more rounded player and you see some eyebrows raise. 🤷🏻♂️
Julius Randle is a much better passer and rebounder than KAT. This is not debatable
Randle gotta buy in he’s in a contract year if he wants to get paid the wolves better win
Randle doesn't play defense…..get him outta here.
I mean you woulda never guessed kat would guard super stars before last year. And the wolves got options if Randle isn’t defending. Plus he’s tryna get paid so he’s gonna give a f
Bro they are not trading Randle for a point guard. They just used the eighth pick for that. On top of that the want ant handling more and more
One thing you don’t have to worry about is a player’s effort during a contact year.
TF are you talking about? This is CLEARLY a massive Win for Minnesota. It plugs their biggest weakness- consistent bench offense from deep and an actual mid-range/post player. These two are what KAT was SUPPOSED to be in one player but could never figure it out. Combine them with an Improved Naz Reid and McDaniels AND Rob Dillingham and the other pick, and suddenly Minnesota has offense to match their defense without missing a step. They are going to be very difficult to beat in a series.
PJ Washington received a Gold Badge in 2022 on Bball Index for "Post Move Lockdown." So, he may be tougher in the post than one may think. While KAT isn't punishing defenders in the post, his point per possession on post offense is pretty solid. I would suspect his post-game will make a semi-return playing under Thibs again and playing the 5 spot primarily on offense.
If all we talking about with Randle is his effort on defense then that’s great. Why? Naz Reid has spoken about he never saw himself as a defensive player but has changed since Rudy and everyone leaned it to that as their identity. Randle has come to the best team to help with his effort. Obviously it’s his choice to buy in but I trust in the culture Wolves have created.
Kat was not at all an end game player. Meaning, the kobe or jordan factor. Heck, the pg13, kawhi, ant, booker, durant factor. You cannot have a guy being paid in future 50-60 million and him not be an option for a last second shot to win a game. The play would have to be scripted and work perfectly. Someone like Ant, and heck, Dillingham already has the ability to get off any shot from anywhere at any time. That is how and where you invest in. Randle is not good at it either but is a heck of a lot better at it than Kat is.
